As far as the rest.. even in this fucked up money grubbing industry, I highly doubt that will ever happen. There is already huge backlash against free games where you "pay to win". If that ever happened with one of the standard $60 games, ie: the only weapon you can beat the boss with is paid DLC, then you can bet there would be a huge uproar over it. Hell, fans got Bioware to expand the ending of ME3 and that was already a part of the paid-for core game.
Yeah I used to be a completionist. Not so much anymore because I just don't care about achievements like other people since I don't play games online. However, I do remember the days when you could unlock all that crap in the game by being good at it. Oh well those days are gone.
Like I said, I love DLC that gives me extra game content. Dawnguard is awesome. The DLC in Oblivion that added extra quests and another world were awesome. The Shadow Boss in ME2 was well worth what I spent on it.
