I'm really bummed that Amazon charges sales tax now. That used to be its greatest advantage over going to an actual store but it's over now. Thanks, Obama. ;)

I have not been charged tax on anything I have ordered from them, including the BF things I bought.

Amazon is currently taxing sales in California, Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington. Decisions are pending in just about every other state with a sales tax. In most states the letter of the law says that you should actually be paying the tax yourself if you're not being taxed by the seller, but no one actually does that.

I found out it will be coming to my state shortly into the new year and the way it is happening, I am sure Amazon will move forward with other states fast. The courts decided Amazon is responsible to pay the state several millions in taxes that they never collected.

I'm in Delaware, I got no sales tax. The one benefit of this hole.

I think Texas forced Amazon to build a workspace of some sort in Texas and employ from within the state in lieu of paying back-taxes.

One benefit to the taxes in California is that Amazon can offer more things. Like now in California, you can have Amazon deliver to lockers in 7-11's.

Does anyone here have experience with multifunction printers? I want to get my dad one for Christmas. Is HP still a good brand?

My recommendations:
Canon Pixma MG5320 - 55-120
HP Photosmart 5510 - 95-120
Epson WorkForce 310 - 65-130

Those are reasonable good printers for decent prices. I've put the lowest I've seen them as well as the highest. Just check around and you should get a good deal. Its also a good idea to review each printer when buying it. Check out some customer reviews on the product to get a feel of it'll suit your needs and how other people who own it think of it.

And yup, HP is still a good brand.

Now available: the Humble THQ Bundle:

http://www.humblebundle.com/

Darksiders
Metro 2033
Red Faction: Armageddon
Company of Heroes
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor

And if you beat the average (currently $5.19):
Saints Row: The Third

Pay what you like, to whom you like, including the American Red Cross and Child's Play charities. Includes soundtracks for a few of the games.

A little different from the usual Humble Bundles. No DRM-free game downloads this; you're just getting Steam keys—one for the initial bundle, then an extra if you beat the average for Saints Row. Purchases under $1.00 receive only the game soundtracks, and not the games themselves.

How bad is the learning curve? It sounds like a lot of fun, but man... Stuff like that kinda worries me. I'm simply too nice.

It's a game where you can't be nice. It's really the gaming equivalent of humanity at it's worst.

Yes, pretty much exactly that.

As far as the curve goes.. It's not that it's difficult to play.. It's more that there is SO much to cover/remember.

Okay...I really probably would do poorly at this game then. Since I really am too nice.

The cover/remember thing I could see myself getting used to over time.

Just finished Sleeping Dogs. I was liking the game for the most part, but near the end I was just playing to get it done and over with

Bummer. I'm a bit into it and have enjoyed it so far. One of the drug busts (the apartment complex) is pissing me off. I keep getting caught between the gangsters and the cops. The rest of it has not been that hard.

The story loses steam towards the end but overall it is a very solid game.

Far Cry 3 comes out tomorrow and it looks really good. I'll probably pick it up after I get sick of Borderlands 2.

Forza Horizon is pretty good. I like the whole festival setting which is partly why I chose it over NFS (the fact it was $15 didn't hurt). $50 for their Season Pass seems really steep though.

I've been enjoying Forza Horizon as well. Best 15 bucks I've spent in a while. There's a lot to do and it's one of those games that keeps me going "just one more" until it's way past when I should have gone to bed.

I know nothing about how video games are actually made, so this is probably a dumb question. But I was just wondering the other day, how did they add the American Weapons (ruby and emerald) to FF7? I assume it's the same way DLC changes your game these days, but I guess I don't know the technical aspect behind it.

I don't have more than a baseline understand, but Squarenix still owns the original code. It's just a matter of adding new code, I'd suppose.

Pretty much that. It's kinda like DLC, I suppose.. without the downloading or paying-extra-for part. They're just inserting new code into the original game and shipping it like that.
