It'll be interesting to see how Lorne and co. threads the needle on this one and if Shane is help to pull it off. He has become a massive name in the (admittedly rapidly growing) stand up comedy bubble but to a lot of people, he is just known as the guy that got fired from SNL after a day for saying racist stuff. We all saw with Jo Koy hostage the Golden Globes, it doesn't really matter how huge of a stand up you are, you can get into hot water real fast with the mainstream media crowd. And Jo Koy's monologue was way more harmless (albeit way less funny) than anything Shane's said and likely will say on SNL.
Plus Shane never even really apologized for all of the offensive stuff he said but at the same time, he's never ever dumped on SNL for firing him, even when his podcast bros try to bait him. For Shane, I think to get to a Bill Burr level, you do need some mainstream media presence. He just postponed a bunch of tour dates from the spring to the fall so I almost wonder if he's got something else in the pipeline.
