I don't like the PS4 BR player's info bar. The PS3 could tell you how long a chapter was while PS4 can only seem to show the total time of an entire disc. This info means nothing for movies but is handy breaking down the extras on wrestling discs.

The only time I end up trading to a store is when they have a promotion going on, where it'd actually be better than trying to sell privately. Future Shop and Best Buy did pretty well with that in 2012-13. Unfortunately, these days, if they have anything going on, it's trade 2 recent releases (on new consoles only) for 1 new release.

I traded in my PS3 and a few games and I got $98 for all of it. I bought my son a $8 used Monster Jam game for Wii since he has the Wii in his room and loves monster trucks. Then I bought a brand new copy of WWE 2K15 and Dragon Age Inquisition for my PS4.

I skipped a lot of the previous console generation but there's some games I really want to try. If I got a cheap PS3, what games would anyone recommend?

I was hoping to get Ni No Kuni, Tales of Xillia 2 and get into the Uncharted series.

I did the same thing last year--I'm actually finishing my run through the Uncharted games now. They're as good as advertised, although I do kind of feel like Tomb Raider was the natural evolution/perfection of that third person adventure format. The Last of Us is also incredible, and Heavy Rain is a flawed but totally unique PS exclusive that's worth it now that you can get it for $10-$20.

I'm also still working my way through cleaning out my collection from last generation, but I actually just got up to enough Sony Rewards points from my credit card to get a free PS4. Fortunately for me they also just added a new option today where you get a free game with the system for the same number of points as just the console. It's a choice of NBA 2k15, Little Big Planet 3, Far Cry 4, or Destiny. Not sure which way I'm leaning yet.

Nope, that's Akiba's Trip. It's a shame the gameplay in that is so bad, because the weirdness is so good.

In addition to other games listed, I'd also recommend the Yakuza series (3 and 4 are on PS3, with 5 coming) and they can be had for almost nothing nowadays, unless the announcement of 5 coming to NA caused a price spike. Also God of War 3. How has nobody mentioned GOW 3? Has the series become that forgettable?

Also, since you said you skipped basically the entire gen, meaning you're also presumably looking for cross platform games, I'd basically say almost everything in this post but some of them aren't on PS3, and some of them (Deadly Premonition and Asura's Wrath mostly) are definitely acquired tastes.

Also I'm pretty sure Xillia 2 is a direct sequel to Xillia, and not just the Final Fantasy numbering style where they mean nothing, so you might want to start with Xillia 1.

Will there ever be PS1 and PS2 titles available for download on the PS4 like they were on the PS3? One of my friends tells me it's not possible with this system.

It's possible. It's just a matter of coding a new emulator that works for PS4's architecture. They could feasibly do it, but something tells me they won't as they will probably want to push their dumb-as-fuck PSNow rental service.

Yeah so what is that service? The same friend was telling me it wasn't worth even the $5 it costs to rent a game.

It's a streaming rental service that is so not worth it. The prices are way out of whack.

Some titles are worth it at the one week tier, especially games that you could power through and beat in that time frame. Just ignore the ridiculous 4 hour rental period.
