That list of Vita-compatible PSP games that's going around has people pissed off because their favorite game isn't on the list.

The best part is every PSP game works on the Vita, and they don't even know it. The list is just the PSP games that are direct-downloadable onto the Vita. If you transfer games from the PS3 to the Vita, you're set. I believe the PC's MediaGo service for the PSP also connects to the Vita, so there you go.

But don't tell the fanboys.

New information coming out contradicts this previous statement. Deciding to keep my damn mouth shut until the 15th, when a bunch of people will get PSP's and talk or bitch about it on the Internet. We'll know then, for sure.

Confirmed by IGN: If you have a PS3, you can load any PSP game, not just the list Sony posted.

That's mainly why I'm hesitant. That and there aren't many launch titles that I'm really interested in. I'll probably wait until X-Mas time for sales and such.

I'll probably wait until there's a must have game, but at the least I'm waiting for a price drop/memory card price drop. The combo of making it take a propitiatory memory card that is essentially just an SD card with a pin flipped (to my understanding), and requiring a card to even get some games to run while not including a card with the system really irks me. Looks like a sweet piece of hardware though. If the modding community can hack it and do cool things with it early on that might get me to buy one.

I thought the reason they went with a proprietary memory card, plus a battery that customers cannot remove, was to avoid getting hacked. The PSP getting hacked was actually a big factor in the lack of good PSP software in the past few years.

Add to this that I just found out we don't have the 3G version in Canada yet. How they fucked up that for launch is beyond me. Basically it's either this or an iPhone for me. Even with the drastic differences in size, I'm still leaning more toward the Vita as it's technically a data-only device so I wouldn't have to pay extra for a voice plan that I'd never use.

Here's the thing - I paid no attention to this at all because I kind of considered the PSP a failure (whether it was or not) and was also arbitrarily mad for no good reason that Sony stopped their system numbering by not calling it the PSP2. Based on the sorting algorithm of handhelds vs. current gen systems, I assumed this was a portable system that was slightly above a PS2 but well below a PS3; now I'm seeing TV commercials saying the entire point of the device is to remotely play PS3 games on the go. That makes it seem a bit more interesting (though I assume there is something not being fully explained in the ads, and I still don't want one).

The pure power of the Vita makes me kind of want to go buy one, but everytime I start to think maybe I'll go see if I can get one I read more stories about how locked down it is or I get reminded about the bullshit memory cards and restrain myself. I have a bad feeling I'm going to end up buying one soon and then regret it.

That's also something that's kept me from running out to get one. Lack of a replaceable battery doesn't help either.

It's probably going to mimic the 3DS launch and Sony will be forced to either throw in a memory card with each system or drop the price. People just don't want to pay $300 for a handheld system AND $40 a game AND accessories that are basically manditory and horribly overpriced anymore when there are cheaper alternatives.

Sorry, I meant in 2000, there was no such thing as built in hard drives on consoles. We were expected to pay for memory cards (which cost way too much, as you said, but were necessary).

Yeah what Venk said. The other systems didn't have built in memory either. Now it's standard, and the PSPgo had it, so it really baffles me that the vita doesn't have it. Or at least come with a memory card by default, but really there's no excuse to not have some built in storage. Also, you could at least fucking play your PS2 games without a memory card. It sucked not beIng able to save, but at least the games would run. I didn't own a memory card for either my ps1 or ps2 for several months after I got the systems.

I liked the second game better than the first. Play through the first one and beat it. You can get cash for the unlockables in Uncharted 2 by doing that. Also make sure your PS3 downloads the latest patch for UC1. My didn't at first and it had no trophy support.

Downloaded this last night:

Journey PSN launch trailer

The online portion of it is kinda like Dark Souls except without all of the death and dying. ;) You just randomly encounter other players one at a time and you can either work together or go your separate ways. The only way to communicate is with actions or the single sound that the character makes when you press circle.

I picked up a used PS2 slim last week thinking I would buy a modchip and attempt to install it and if it failed oh well it was cheap. Then I discover that not only is there a chipless option, but with the model I got you don't even have to open up the system. Two cheap pieces of plastic wedged in the disc tray area + a copy of swap magic and that's it. So now I can play my imported PS1 games and finally get some Japanese PS2 games, hooray. But it really does surprise me that all it takes is a couple of pieces of plastic. On my PS1 back in the day I used a little spring in the disc tray and a gameshark in the serial port, but I figured by now they'd have made the consoles so you couldn't do that.

The PSP was used via a download to a memory card, the PS3 was done via memory stick. Sony have real meathods of breaking their tight security. The Phat ps2 was remove the cd dray cover (the bit with the PS logo) and use a credit card with a notch in it.

PS Store is having a sale on Final Fantasy games..30% off for regular users and 50% off for PS+ subscribers (which amounts to about $5 per game). Just stocked up on a bunch for my PSP (FF 1, 2, 4, 4 After Years, 5, 6, 8, 9 & the original Tactics game). They also have Dissidia, 7 and Tactics War of the Lions available.

As someone who's only played 7 and X, which do you recommend I get? (I know, I know, I'm not as big a FF nerd as most people)

I will always be a mark for VI and IV so those are definitely at the top of any list I would give as well.
