Posted on the anniversary week of the Finger poke of Doom. It's amazing WWF was able to overtake WCW considering how much crappier their roster was in 1998 but I tell ya, it goes to show you that great storytelling will override great work rate (and star power) 99 times out of 100 IMO.
I was second row next to the aisle at this show. Don't forget that the first part of 2002 was dominated by "what" chants too. Yuck.Fitting cause Vince will probably make Albert dance again after he resumes power.
“But I’m an executive now, Vince! I’m not even an onscreen character!”
“I DON’T CARE! I WANNA SEE THE HIP HOP HIPPO DAMMIT!”
It's how a lot of great media is... while characters can be iconic, it always comes down to the story/plot. Nobody remembers the fantastic acting performance of a mediocre movie. Still, they remember stuff with solid but not exactly Oscar-worthy performances like Jurassic Park and Star Wars. It's amazing WWF was able to overtake WCW considering how much crappier their roster was in 1998 but I tell ya, it goes to show you that great storytelling will override great work rate (and star power) 99 times out of 100 IMO.
Shhhhhhh, stop telling the truthIt's how a lot of great media is... while characters can be iconic, it always comes down to the story/plot. Guys like Rey Mysterio Jr, Dean Malenko, Eddie, Benoit, etc. had great matches in WCW but how many truly great storylines can you remember from their WCW days? There's a reason people remember the story (usually) more than the random slew of 3* matches they had on Monday Nitro or Thunder. Crow Sting and Hogan had one of the best feuds in wrestling history, even with a letdown PPV match and people remember the feud more so than the payoff match.
