after having 909 do the math for me it sounds like most people are going to be having their debts cut in half or more so it's actually a lot better than it sounds. Sucks for the big debters though!

Yeah, the people who owe hundreds of thousands are still shit out of luck. But, there are tons of people who owe 30K or less. And this is huge for them.

Together we have $90k. So this won't be life changing, but it's not nothing. The pause has been a huge benefit for us though. I've been making payments into a savings account since I graduated in spring of last year.

Yea this takes care of almost all of my brother's student debt, so to say he's happy is an understatement.

I feel like this dude turned what was becoming a disaster presidency into something of actual value. If they gain seats I feel like they might actually go ham overturning the worst aspects of Republican governing.

I thought your brother made more than 125k? I read it doesn't apply to anyone making more than that annually.

No my BIL is the one that makes that much. They aren't actually married yet.

They were p concerned about their mortgage if they both had to go back to paying loans but this takes care of that!

This is great news. I was basically paycheck to paycheck in a lot of my 30's because of a ton of student loan debt.

I did go back to get a Masters degree in Education so it was a second degree and I was choosing to do it, but I was always going to be for some measure of this, because I will empathize with an 18-22 that doesn't know exactly what they want to do with the rest of their life, and then have signed up for a predatory loan, where the house always wins.

I am almost done on my Masters degree repayment, and I would still support at a bare minimum of cancelling the interest. And 909's right, dropping down the % is a big game changer too.

Apparently if you paid anything since 2020 and you have less than the maximum limit for cancelling in remaining debt you can get those recent payments refunded. So if you kept paying and now you have no debt left well congrats dude you can get back what you paid too. Just wanna throw that out there in case that applies to anyone here.
