Yeah, I heard them like two months ago. I really should have posted about them then.

I didn't like that song, but I'm still downloading the album to listen to it because I was intrigued by the vibe. Kinda Blue Oyster Cult meets King Diamond, except with guitar tone that sounds like a Boss MetalZone into a 10 watt amp from Sears.

Edit: I've listened to the whole album 4 times. Didn't expect Scooby doom to hook me this badly. The fuck.

The riffs take like five minutes to pick out, and are all cool as fuck.

For those of you into power metal, you should check out Avantasia's new CD/DVD release "The Flying Opera". Holy shit this thing kicks ass. Avantasia is fronted by Edguy's Tobi Sammet with the rest of the band pretty much being a who's who of the Euro power metal scene. Good stuff.

New Morbid Angel...

...WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!?!?!?!?!? This is a band whose influence and importance to the death metal sub-genre means they can rest on their laurels until they call it quits and people will still say "hey, Altars of Madness is a fucking great album." That...oh man...Unspoken King is bad, St. Anger is terrible, but this...this is absolute garbage since those albums at least had some minor similarities to older works. This, though, isn't even a cash-in on the modern sound since the pseudo-goth/industrial scene hasn't been popular for 10 fucking years.

Sensitive Seth dead makes too much sense to me. Anal Cunt was always a one-note joke, but damn was that joke hilarious when delivered at the right time. It looks like Joe Bonni has one less person that wants to punch his face in. But now who's going to tell us how much everybody in Allston must be killed? Who's going to light your babies on fire?

Seth's also had real problems with addiction. I'm amazed he lasted as long as he did.

My favorite MA album is Domination. The title track into Where The Slime Live? Fucking awesome.

Really? I like that one a lot, too. I like Blessed are the Sick more, but Domination is seriously overlooked. Shit's good.

Seth's problems with addiction are indicative of the scene up here en masse, actually. Lots of pills, coke, and drink to be found, which is why it's dying again.

And yes, "Dominate" into "Where the Slime Live" is fucking nasty as hell.

So is Ghost joining the ranks of Baroness, the reunited Celtic Frost/Triptykon, and Skeletonwitch as bands who are highly acclaimed that I just find dull as hell?

I mean I don't hate the stuff, but each of those other bands were heavily hyped for one reason or another (Baroness - Blue Record, Celtic Frost - Monotheist, Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones, and Skeletonwitch - Beyond the Permafrost), but listening to them reveals stuff that I really can't sink my teeth into (and I actually enjoy it).

I have. I don't mind it (it seems like a major case of hearing everything it influenced well before hearing the originator, similar to how Venom seems tame compared to just about every band that followed them from outside of Los Angeles). I was talking about how Monotheist came out a few years ago, people creamed themselves over it, and...well, let's just say I was entirely unimpressed.

I love Celtic Frost and even I didn't exactly cream myself over it. I like it, though.

Ghost is fuckin' amazing though. They just get it.

Finally, the day has almost come.

Leaving for England on Saturday. The following Friday is the first day of Sonisphere. Will be seeing Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax on a single fucking night of a 3-day concert. Going to be in-fucking-sane.

Think I'm actually looking forward to seeing Anthrax the most, as I've seen Slayer twice and Megadeth once already.

There's a ton of other bands on the bill, but the big 4 is why I'm going, bottom line.

Gojira, Fozzy, In Flames now suck, Mastodon, Limp Bizkit (lol), Kylesea, Motorhead, Orange Goblin, Opeth, Sisters of Mercy (didn't know they were still around-not metal, but still) and Watain are there too.
