I think it's more that women are afraid of metalheads, and anyone that does or even wants metal to be taken that seriously is doing it wrong.

I can see the point of the person who made that page, in all honesty. Heavy metal and its subgenres was supposed to be dangerous, heavy, and on the more extreme edge of listenable, yet many of the "metal" bands being glorified in the last few years are more Radiohead than they are Venom. There's plenty of awesome new music being developed, for sure, but little of it really screams "THIS IS FUCKING METAL" the way bands of even a decade ago did at the start of the metalcore trend.

Heh..."Obviously my knowledge of the band goes no further than the first album and the handful of singles I've heard"
This is about Mastodon on that page. Maybe the dude who made this should've actually listened to more stuff?

EDIT:
Equally interesting is that the page "likes" Pantera, who may very well have set the standard for what he's defining as "girlfriend metal" in '94.

Someone recorded pretty much the entire Kamelot concert from Atlanta last Friday in sickeningly good quality. Fabio Lione, the former frontman of Rhapsody (and dead-ringer for Steve Perry) is their temporary frontman. Here is March of Mephisto:

When I was 17, I listened to 85% metal and women wanted nothing to do with me. Well that and I was a weird fatass with skeezy long hair. But, now I lost 80 pounds, became a skinny fat ass, started listening to every type of music, and do decently with women. When I fail with women, I just go into a room and masterbate violently while listening to this to bring myself full circle:

It's times like this that I'm ecstatic my wife-to-be has a signed Gwar tattoo on her back and practically creams herself over Cannibal Corpse.

This has made either band difficult to listen to for the couple of days, in hindsight.

Anyone have an opinion of Jorn Lande? He's the frontman for Masterplan, does tons of work with Tobias Sammet's Avantasia, and is a pretty successful solo singer. He has an incredible voice, and reminds me a lot of a deeper-voiced Marco Heitala. Here is one of his collaborations with Avantasia, "The Scarecrow". He's the big guy who sings the 2nd verse and most of the rest of the song for those that may not know.

I haven't heard it yet, but Alice Coopers new album, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, came out on Tuesday. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Oh hell yes! I know he recently released a DVD but I didn't know he worked on a new album. A couple years ago, he contributed vocals on an Avantasia song called "The Toy Master". I greatly enjoy it.

The new Opeth: I want to like this, I really do. Hell, I love the idea of them going "fuck it, let's just do a prog rock album without any metal." The thing is, I feel the same way about this that I did "Watershed", in that it's an album with good moments and great ideas, but as a whole it just doesn't gel.

Next year's ProgpowerUSA lineup has been announced. Among the lineup are Serenity(!), Mayan(!!!!!!), Epica, and Symphony X. About 8 other bands have also been announced. Looks like I'll be attending both days of the show in 2012!

"Meh" to the new Anthrax. It actually sounds like they wrote the songs with John Bush in mind but have Belladonna singing over it. They sound just as disjointed as the Bush-era material. I blame Scott Ian working with anybody who asks him to, or at least Charlie Benante for not stepping up and saying "guys, these songs are rubbish."

"The Devil You Know" sounds like a fucking radio song with a few decent riffs here and there. Why is it that only Megadeth and Slayer, as far as the Big 4 go, kept something resembling a pair of nuts attached to them? Even Megadeth has Risk to be ashamed of, because at least Diabolous in Musica and God Hates Us All keep the same dissonant notations that Slayer's known for.

Okay, dudes, I'm going to ask a very simple question.

I tend to enjoy buying hard copies of CDs so I have a physical back-up in case my system fries or needs to be wiped. It's happened before, it's bound to happen again, so I'm a little paranoid about stuff like that. However, I realize that the vast majority of shit I've been listening to lately - Hour of Penance, local brutal death outfit Autonomy, Goreality, and a lot of others - either no longer print their stuff for retail sale or are fucking difficult as shit to get a hard copy of. That? And it's expensive. I don't have a whole lot of money.

Soooooo...what are some good places to download stuff from?

If you don't mind paying, Amazon.com is really good. I've purchased many albums from there. If you are looking for free stuff, then torrents are the way to go.

Put mediafire after every album you want. Pirate Bay is a second option.
