New Immortal album All Shall Fall drops October 6th in the US.
Fuck yes. Also, this quote over three years ago regarding recording this album:
I didn't really want to say it, but I don't give a shit. We will come back, stronger than ever. I've met with Horgh for the first time in over a year. He's built his new house here, right around the corner. In the next few days we will begin to rehearse our old 'Blizzard Beasts' classics. I'm already really hot on the idea. Immortal are timeless frost. One year more or less doesn't make a difference. We have all the time in the world.

Having bought and re-listened to it, I've come to the conclusion that Cobalt's new album Gin is awesome. Same with Kylesa's Static Tension.

High on Fire is the epitome of boring live. I saw them open for Opeth late last year, and after Nachtmystium got people revved up and put on an amazing show, High on Fire comes out to ruin it up with poor Motörhead-knockoff sludge.

And I'm missing MayhemFest today due to no funds and things to do. Cannibal Corpse. Slayer. Fuck every other band on the bill, ESPECIALLY Killswitch Engage and Marilyn Manson, but it's fucking Slayer and Corpse. I'm peeved.

I went to my first metal show a week and a half ago. It was Mayhem Fest. The headliners were Bullet for my Valentine, Killswitch Engage, Slayer, and Marilyn Manson. I got there late so the only people I saw on the 2nd stage was Cannibal Corpse.

Killswitch put on one hell of a show and got the crowd to do a wall of death (which was fucking insane). Here's some vid from it.

Here's Howard appreciating our efforts (we had 3 or 4 walls of death. 1 in the pit and 2 or 3 in the lawn)
Killswitch Engage - WALL OF DEATH INDIANA

Here's vid of the lawn Walls of Death
Mayhem Fest 2009 HUGE PIT

Killswitch Engage puts on one hell of a show and they got the best response out of any of the headliners. (well, Manson might have them tied). It was one of my favorite shows I've been to.

Ugh. KSE is so fucking dull live. I've seen them twice, and both times they got blown out of the water by bands opening for them.

KsE hasn't been important to me since Jesse left. And it frustrates me, because i'll hear a song of theirs or see them live and enjoy it, but then listen to their recent studio albums and get mad about how much they suck.

Yeah. I saw the Corpsegrinder interview. Any and all illusions of him actually deserving fear and/or respect was thrown out the window the moment he said he even touched WOW.

European metal bands: We'll burn down your church, we'll rape and kill your fucking family, and then we'll write evil, blasphemous, amazing music about it.

American metal bands: We think this is just a fucking game! HEY, GUYS, GRRRRR!!!

Yeah, one guy in the black metal scene actually did kill someone, and remember what happened to him?

He went on to make some of the worst black metal ever, that's what happened

oh, he also became a Hitler devotee as well

Hey Agent, since it's clear you're a big fan of post-metal bands like Neurosis and Isis, what're your thoughts on Minsk and Cult of Luna?

Not terribly familiar with Minsk, but Cult of Luna is really good. I have The Beyond and Salvation and like both. I'm pretty much a sucker (to some extent) for all those instru-metal bands, so I might not be the most objective person in the world. Have you heard Red Sparowes? Definitely listen to Red Sparowes. They're kind of a superior Pelican, I think, and I like Pelican. They're (RS) working on a new album right now, which I'm very much looking forward to.

Never heard of Red Sparowes, and I know the name Pelican but haven't checked them out.

I've really found myself diving into this post-metal genre lately, which is funny given my previous feelings about it. Looking back though I realized every few years I wind up reanalyzing and getting deep into a genre or band that a couple years prior I had tried to listen to and dismissed. I've also done this recently for grindcore.

Are you posting the "O" thread soon?

Fuck a Q, also know as "In defense of Pantera"

I'll be glad to pick things up from here (I'm not very busy work or life-wise this week), as I'd already mapped out my own ideas for the whole alphabet back around the C thread. I'm aiming for one thread every other day or so. After "O" though I'm very likely to diverge from your original plans (you should already know where I'm going with "P").

and I do have a "Q" in mind, but it's definitely not who you think it is

"O" article should be up tonight, tomorrow morning at latest

I'm rather enjoying Thought Industry's Short Wave on a Cold Day, though it's barely on the frontier of what can be considered progressive metal, which itself is barely on the frontier of what can be considered metal at all. I think it certainly has some metal sensibilities, nonetheless. I understand previous releases were heavier, blacker, metaller.

As an FYI

Q is for Quorthon, main man behind the legendary Bathory, correct?

Yes, I had originally planned to run with Quorthon for Q since I didn't believe he got a proper sendoff in the B thread, but I just couldn't get worked up enough to write the article. I think I temporarily burned out my writing desire after that P thread

and if anyone thought I was going to pick Queensryche, you'd be very wrong. Their first two albums (and EP) are pretty good, most every metalhead knows Operation: Mindcrime, most mainstream rockers know all the big hits from Empire, and everything after that was largely crap.

No article needed there

Slayer's Queensryche mention reminds me that the maddest I ever got at MTV was when their website did a VMA retrospective and they were listed under one-hit wonders. "This Washington band performed its Viewers Choice award-winning hit "Silent Ludicity" at the 1991 awards, then faded back into obscurity" or something like that. I guess it's technically true, but still. BUT STILL.

Alright metalheads... I have a question for you. What's with dudes putting their hands up in the air at shows with the backs of their hands to the band and then moving their fingers to look like they're playing air guitar or something?

Don't get it, but I'm pretty sure I remember people doing it while Killswitch Engage played Holy Diver.
