Not the horns. I know what those are. It's hard to explain. Hold your hands out with your palms open to you. Close your hands just a little and wiggle your fingers back and forth.

Slayer's Queensryche mention reminds me that the maddest I ever got at MTV was when their website did a VMA retrospective and they were listed under one-hit wonders. "This Washington band performed its Viewers Choice award-winning hit "Silent Ludicity" at the 1991 awards, then faded back into obscurity" or something like that. I guess it's technically true, but still. BUT STILL.

Oh my god, for real. When that happened I was SO ANGRY. I threw my commemorative Operation: Mindcrime beer cozy at the computer as hard as I could and screamed out "FUCK THAT BULLSHIT" at the top of my lungs. Yeah, my mom yelled at me, but I didn;t care. A great injustice had been done and I'd be damned if people didnt' know about it.

I guess the use of "mad" there was a little extreme. I wasn't like "THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS," I was just like "Pffft stupid MTV." But still, LOL AT THESE METAL THREAD IDIOTS LISTEN TO WIRE YOU JERKS.

I think it's high time us Smart Marks begin taking sides in the war of populism vs elitism. With Byron the Bulb as their figurehead, the elitists have driven wrestling into the #4 spot on the front page (lower if Kingofthe909 gets his way), the comics folder has been turned into a "literature folder," the video games folder is only allowed to discuss games with "serious narrative" like Braid, Movies/TV can't talk about anything made in America, pro-Israel opinion in current events gets you banned, and people with cats or dogs as pets are placed into a group called "Fucking Trash." When does it stop?

Would you have even known what Operation: Mindcrime was if I hadn't mentioned it earlier?

No figurehead of music elitism can be into Soulja Boy and Taylor Swift. I wish I could claim music folder supremacy, but people think I'm merely a generic Modern Indie Fag because I like an Arcade Fire album and wear a scarf in the winter. People still PM me asking for Bright Eyes and Death Cab recommendations. Yeah, and I also wear girl jeans. they're just more comfortable y'know?

In Byron's defense, he does like Boris, as well as...um...I think that's all the metal he does like.

I love Boris, but I do find it slightly annoying that they've become one of the the go to metal bands for hipsters (same with Mastodon, Wolves in the Throne Room, Nachtmystium, and several others.)

Maybe because those bands are more than antisemitic Scandinavians making guttural noises over guitar wanking, which accounts for like 40% of the genre.

More like 10%, but the argument holds water.

I'm really falling in love with Disillusion's Back to the Times of Splendor album, and getting into more progressive metal as a whole.

I can't find the Agents CD anywhere. I refuse to download, because any portion of my money going to Dax Riggs is worth it (and I also like having the hard copy of something, including the packaging it comes in), and I don't really feel like ordering it online. There are slots for them at every Newbury Comics I go to, just no copies available.

ITunes exists for a reason.

I disagree. Annihilation of the Wicked is just such a complete album. "Unas, Slayer of the Gods" is still their best song, but Annihilation has "Lashed to the Slave Stick," "Cast Down The Heretic," "Sacrifice Unto Sebek," "The Burning Pits of the Duat"... if any song challenges Unas for best song, it's Burning Pits. Oh man, how have Byron and Czech not jumped on this band yet.

I can't get into anything other than Nephren-Ka. Parts of Darkened Shrines are awesome, the obvious "Unas," but Nephren-Ka is everything one could hope to look for in a brutal album.

oh I know, it's marked on my calendar

Unfortunately I don't see it set up ahead of time on AmazonMP3 or iTunes, which is odd for it being from Century Media. If it's not available as such on release date I may have to go purchase the physical CD, which would be for the first time in... three years, maybe

Is Symphony X still tooling around these days? I checked out one of their albums a few years ago, The Odyssey, it was pretty decent.

yeah, two years ago they released the pretty good Paradise Lost (how about that) following a five-year hiatus after the rather blah IMO Odyssey. Wiki says they're currently working on producing a live DVD from their recent tour.
