Steam: Fuck the outside world Sale (until July 4th!)

Steam is going to on the PS3 soon. It was announced at E3.

Steamworks, not Steam. Steamworks is the underlying API that allows games to implement Community, Matchmaking, and Steam Achievements in games.

It will be a cold day in hell before the Steam store is on PS3.
Steam Cloud for game saves is another thing. I think Gabe/Valve are most excited about the potential to roll out updates on a console without having to go through some exhaustive first-party testing system. And having to charge for it. (Not sure if charging $7 for infrequent L4D updates that are free through Steam is all MS' doing, but, yeah.)

Yeah, it's MS' doing. Same reason there's no TF2 update, they want to put all the updates in one big one rather than having to charge for each one individually.

Steam is having a sale because of Quakecon. Today's deal is a sale on Doom.

So the Thanksgiving sale has begun.

Today's deals:

Counter-Strike Source: $5
Alpha Protocol: $7.50
Indie Energy Pack (5 indie games) $5
Prototype $15
RUSE: $33.50
Deus Ex Collection: $5
Borderlands: $10
Shank: $10.04 (..no clue on the extra 4 cents)
Sam & Max the Devils Playhouse: $10.50

Nothing intesting on there for me. I would be on Shank and S&M if they were cheaper. Maybe at Christmas?

The other big part of the thanksgiving sale: Create a Steam wishlist, and every day (up until the 29th) Steam will give 30 people the top 5 games on their wishlists.

A half a year late, but... yes!

Steam: Thanksgiving Sale has begun!

Today's deals:

EVE Online Tyrannis $5
Defense Grid The Awakening $2.50
Cities XL 2011 $30
Deathspank $10.04
Indie Story Pack $5
Audiosurf $2.50
Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY edition $10.20
Kane & Lynch 2 $5

EVERYBODY fucking buy the Indie story pack! It includes: And Yet It Moves, Gish, Jolly Rover, Puzzle Agent, and MOTHER FUCKING RECETTEAR. I don't know what Jolly Rover actually is, but I know good things about the rest of the games, and have been close a few times to buying Recettear at it's full $20 price tag.

I've been looking at Recettear for a while too. For 5 bucks plus 4 other games, you can't really go wrong.

Today's deals:

Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box $15
Warhammer 40K Dawn of War 2 Gold Edition $13.60
Machinarium $5
Tropico 3 Gold Edition $7.50
Torchlight $5
Empire: Total War $15
ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead $20
Blur $15
Indie Clever Pack $5

The Pack today consists of: Doc Clock, Eufloria, Iron Grip, VVVVVV, and World of Goo.

I dunno, I think nothing today. If you don't have Torchlight, you should get it now. Or you know, wait another month, when it'll no doubt be $5 again. And again a month after that. and a month after that.

I'm somewhat looking at Tropico 3, but I probably won't get it.

New Deals:

Left 4 Dead 2 $5
COD Modern Warfare $15
Wings of Prey $15
Supreme Commander 2 $3.75
Galcon Fusion $2.50
King's Bounty Platinum Edition $8.75
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light $7.50
GTA Episodes from Liberty City $10.20
Indie Pulse Pack $5

The Pack today consists of: Audiosurf, Beat Hazard, Bit.Trip Beat, Rhythm Zone, and The Polynomial. If I didn't already own Audiosurf and Beat Hazard I'd be all over that pack.

Looks like nothing for me again today. Seems pretty crazy that Modern fucking Warfare at $15 is a GIANT STEAM DEAL. That shit should be down to $7.50 by now.

Or cheaper. Hasn't the sequel been out for a year now?

I'll probably pick up the Pack. The earlier pack with Recettear and Puzzle Agent is good. Puzzle Agent was surprisingly atmospheric...good 2am game. Recettear is silly but addictive...the only issue is slogging through 5 dungeon levels without saving to fight a boss.

I played about 10 minutes of Gish...and I don't think I'll ever be going back to that game. EVER. Holy fuck are those controls horrible.

Jolly Rover is pretty fun. Granted, it just Monkey Island with a dog, but...still fun.

It's almost jarring how similar it is to the newer Monkey Island. In the last one I played you start out on a pirate ship, then end up on piratey island. Jolly Rover is exactly the same...but with dogs.

I agree with Gish. Easily my least favorite of the five.

Today's Deals:

Mount & Blade Warband $7.50
Splinter Cell Conviction $20.09
The Ball $10
Street Fighter IV $10.20
World of Goo $2.50
Patrician IV Steam Special Edition $10
The Orange Box $7.50
Bit.Trip Beat $5 (it was part of the $5 PACK yesterday. get the fuck outa here steam)
Indie Puzzle Pack $5

Pack today consists of Cogs, Droplitz, Puzzle Dimension, Shatter, and Tildalis. I know nothing about any of those games, so I have nothing to say about that.

There's nothing here today I'd even THINK about. Fuck today's deals. I hope tomorrow is more new sales, but it'll probably be a "best of" like they normally do on the last day of their sales.

Shatter is alright, it's an Arkanoid clone but a lot prettier and with some new mechanics...you can push and pull out from your paddle. It's pretty short, I think I got it for 2 bucks on a previous sale.

World of Goo is a pretty neat game if you don't already have it.

Oh yeah, so, I ended up beating Jolly Rover last night. Fairly short, only 4 1/2 hours. But it was fun as hell while it lasted, and I'd say it's MORE monkey island than the Tales stuff, from what I've seen.

Oh hey, look at that, today ISN'T a "best of" sale, still new items.

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition $2.50
Peggle Deluxe $5
Aliens vs Predator $6.80
Mafia II $37.50
Metro 2033 $10
KOTOR $2.50
Beat Hazard $2.50
DiRT 2 $5
Indie Air Pack $5

Pack today is: Altitude, Dog Fighter, Flotilla, Gratutious Space Battles, and Plain Sight. Once again I know nothing about any of those games.

Monkey Island 2 is a no brainer for anyone who hasn't played it.

I'm pretty shocked this wasn't a best of sale too.

Gratuitous Space Battles is nothing special. The idea is cool: you build your own ships and have these giant 2D space battles. The problem is that it's all automated...you just end up watching after the initial fleet deployment. Since it's all flat and 2D there's not really a lot to watch. For $1 it's fine but I wouldn't go out of my way to play it.

If you haven't played KOTOR, go and buy that.

Tons of indie packs but I can't vouch for many of them.

Zombie Driver alone was worth $5 when I played it, now it's got a few upgrades under its belt (at least one adds a new mode) and it comes with 4 other games in the Indie Fright pack for the same $5.

Puzzle Agent was slightly disappointing, but again, it comes with 4 other games for $5 in the Indie Smarts pack. You might get your $5 out of Puzzle Agent alone, I would have if the ending hadn't soured me on the whole experience.

Steam: 4th of July sale is BACK, bitches!

Yo, it's that time of year again people. 4th of July sale begins in earnest again on Steam today, running through July 10th. http://store.steampowered.com/

They're doing another giveaway themed sale, which they did..at some point last year. Playing certain games will give you tickets into the giveaway, for the top 10 games in your Steam wishlist, and you can also use the tickets to get DLC items for...less than top notch games. Full list here http://store.steampowered.com/summersale/prizebooth/

Anyways, today's deals of the day:

Operation Flashpoint: Red River - $29.24
Back to the Future (all episodes) - $12.49
Oblivion - $6.80
Lead and Gold - $1.50
Medal of Honor - $10.19
The Witcher 2 - $33.49
Borderlands GOTY edition - $7.50
Blood Bowl - $13.59
Test Drive Unlimited 2 - $9.99
Dawn of War 2 - $14.99
Recettear - $5.00
Bit.trip Runner and Bit.trip Beat - $2.50

I plan on getting Bit.trip Runner and BTTF. Also, for anyone who is new to Steam sales, there are something like 1000 games on sale just throughout the entire sale period, but I wouldn't buy any of them until the very last day of the sale, because they might wind up on a daily deal and be even cheaper than what you paid for them.

Edit: Also, anyone who doesn't have Recettear and even remotely enjoys action RPGs or capitalism should get it at that price.

What upsets me is that the one thing I really wanted for this sale was TF2, and it happened to be on sale the only day I forgot to check it. Damn.

How stuff changes in just a year.

Well, it is on regular-sale for $33.49, but, yeah, I doubt it'll become a daily deal. Although you never know until the 10th.

The Steam Thread: 4th of July sale is BACK, bitches!

Today's Steam deals:

Total War Shogun 2 - $29.99
Call of Duty Black Ops - $37.19
GTA Classics (GTA 1-3, Vice City, San Andreas) - $7.50
Dungeons Steam Special Edition - $13.59
Devil May Cry 4 - $9.99
Just Cause 2 - $4.99
Railworks 2 - $8.74
Braid - $2.49
Spacechem - $5.09
Hamilton's Great Adventure - $4.99
Heroes of Might and Magic V - $4.99

Yeah, nothing there for me today. Just Cause 2 is a good purchase if you don't already have it, especially since all the DLC is also marked down 75%, making them either 50 cents or a quarter. Braid is also worth it if you don't have it.

I would have been all over Hamilton if it was $2.50, but not at $5.

The Steam Thread: 4th of July sale is BACK, bitches!

Today's Steam daily sales are up:

Bioshock 1 and 2 - $5 each
Magicka - $3.39
Darksiders - $4.99
Football Manager 2011 - $9.99
Fable 3 - $24.99
Hoard - $2.99
Plants vs Zombies - $3.39
Resident Evil 5 - $14.99
Super Meat Boy - $7.49
Half-Life Complete Pack - $9.99 (or individual Half-Life games for 75% off)
Aliens vs Predator - $4.99
Battlefield Bad Company 2 - $5.00 (or $5.10 for Vietnam)

Lots of good games up today. All the HL games for $10 is a pretty ridiculous deal, but I'm pretty sure everyone who's interested in HL already has the games. I'm thinking about Hoard and Magicka, and POSSIBLY Plants vs Zombies, just because it seems like everybody has that fuckin game. Super Meat Boy is great, but you better have a damn gamepad, because I can't even imagine how impossible that would be with a keyboard.
