I got Civilizations: Revolution on the Xbox and I like it a lot. It's a simpler version of the Civ games.

Yeah, that game is awesome and can be pretty addicting. I know when it first came out, I blind bought it without much knowledge of the Civ franchise and found myself playing it for hours on end without even realizing how much time would pass.

I played that game pretty much nonstop over a weekend once and I know it's only a matter of time until I get sucked back into it.

While I've been jumping between a few different games lately, the primary one has been Lego Harry Potter. I like it much like a ll the other Lego games but I swear, I've only had maybe one game ever freeze on me before and this one has frozen to the point I've had to restart my 360 four times, three in the past day.

Maybe since it's been so long (at LEAST 15 years) since I've last played it, but I really don't remember all of these levels in the VC version of Sonic 2 being in the original cartridge version.

I've got a Nintendo emulator disc for the Dreamcast, and for some reason, I felt compelled last week to plow through all the levels of Super Mario Bros. I beat the game when I was little, but I don't remember ever doing it without using warp zones. Got through it in about 2 hours.

For an encore this week, I'm doing the same thing with SMB2. Two thoughts:

1. This game is a hell of a lot harder than SMB1.
2. I'm not a hardcore SMB fan by any means, but wow, I forgot just how much this game is totally out of the loop with the rest of the Mario games.

Dragon Quest IX I'd recommend for anyone who owns a DS. Sure, it sucks that you are a silent protagonist and you don't get any party members (outside of the hires) but its so much fun customizing your characters outfits (everything is customizable) that sometimes you don't even want to equip that Wood Helm just cause it looks stupid. Even if its much better than your Wool Cap.

Examples used, not real gear. But yeah! Its totally fun.

Mario 2 was never meant to be a Mario game. Someone can help me here. In Japan it had a different name and the characters were different. It's more or less modded with Mario charactes for the U.S. market... I think I have that right.

Yeah, I looked it up on Wikipedia (and if it's on Wikipedia, it HAS to be true!), and it's a pretty fascinating story.

What was supposed to be SMB2 was rejected for North America (not enough improvements over SMB1, basically the same game but with harder levels), so they took a Japanese game called "Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic" and made some tweaks to it to add the Mario cast of characters.

The game that was supposed to be SMB2, originally released only in Japan, eventually made its way into SMB packages for later-gen consoles under the title "The Lost Levels."

Another interesting note: As SMB2 was released in America in 1988, SMB3 was released in Japan in the same month. SMB3 didn't make it to America until 1990. I had no idea 3 had been out that long overseas before it finally came here.

Playing this now and really liking it. The idea of having a silent protagonist and three hired mercenaries is straight out of DQ3 so doesn't bother me much. My wife doesn't like the idea because of the character development of.. DQ5. You know, the game where you can pick a wife and the storyline effect will be your son and daughter's eye and hair color change. I really love how there's no random battles. I thought I'd hate it, but I can't even imagine playing the older ones now. You can level up so much easier now just by running into every enemy you see, since battles go by surprisingly quick, or you can avoid as many as yo can if you need to run back to town in a hurry. It's not quite as awesome as 8 or 1 for me so far, but definitely going to be one of my favorite DQs at this rate.

I never beat Super Mario Brothers 2. If they would release the SNES version that allows saving, I would try to do it.

I gave into the hype and picked up DragonQuest IX today, but I probably won't play it for a while. Need to finish Miles Edgeworth Investigations first.

I played it another 2 hours tonight and finally encountered some difficulty in the tomb place. There was a boss that really destroyed me, but I made it out alive with my main character barely alive. It still gives 2/3 experience to dead party members, so not bad.

Its not as awesome as 8, but I'd go its nearly up there. Actually, I forgot abou tthe DQ3 part, but yeah, its actually quite cool. I created 3 characters and I just stick with them. Surprisingly, although there's no other party members, this allows for the world characters to be quite well developed for those you do interact with and lets you enjoy the story more. Which I thought would suck for me, as I needed to restart my game from scratch. I'll explain that later, but I think this allows the story to be more enjoyable to behold.

Though I'm finding I actually like hiring my own personal mercenaries now, because I can give them their own personal backstories and justifications for joining the Hero on his quest. I thought I'd hate this, but I'm really liking it.

Piece of advice for anyone playing Dragon Warrior IX, don't start inputting skill points till you reach Alltrades Abbey. You're actually able to carry over skill points from one class to another, so if you stick around Alltrades for awhile and get everyone's classes from 1 to 15, you should have roughly 15 points each class and that equates to around 90 points to boost up a single class that you dedicate your character too. Hence why I had to reset my game, I spent points everywhere. T_T

Oh when you get to higher levels, the xp rate is 1/3 when characters die, so its not as punishing as old games used to be.

I stick to the same three people because I hate rebuilding people I already built up, but wait you can change classes? I used all my skill points already too. Fuck. Oh well, I get into so many battles it hopefully won't be a major issues.

Ah man I never played that sean connery 007 game for the gamecube despite having it for a few years now because of some bad reviews and how everyone I knew shitted on it. Well, I played it today and man is it awesome. I took on a helicopter while on a jet pack for the first mission! The the helicopter gore'd me. This game rules.

Yeah, when you get to Alltrades Abbey and complete the quest associated with it, you'll be able to change classes. There's no big problems with skill point usage as long as you put them into a single weapon and/or the class associated stat bonuses. I however spread it out against the whole class usage (weapon, shield, and class), so I had to restart. You probably won't need to.

But yeah, just use the other classes to move up the skills you want to learn for that person. That's what I'm going to do.

I traded in the God of War Collection, God of War 3, and Modnation racers today to get Uncharted 2, and I put the rest of the credit towards NHL11. I enjoyed the God of War trilogy, but one play through of each game was enough for me. Also, I really wanted to like Modnation more than I did. Then again, I'm not big on creating a shitload of stuff myself, so that drops the appeal of the game greatly for me.

On to what I'm playing, I'm a few Chapters into Uncharted 2. I loved the first one and so far I am entertained by the sequel.

I got that game for Christmas the year it came out on the Xbox. I remember I liked it a lot more than other people were saying too. The jet pack helicopter brings back some good memories. I don't remember playing too far into it but there was some crazy stuff in there I was loving.

Darksiders. It basically just takes all the good parts of games like Zelda and God of War, but it does them pretty well. The boss battles are pretty good.
