Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. FFIV was the first game of the series I played, so I'll always love it. I'm only about an hour into this, but I'm enjoying it so far.

Lost: Via Domus: Basically you play a character that's shoehorned into the LOST world who has a story you don't care about and "gameplay" that will put you to sleep. I liked 24: The Game a hell of a lot more than this.

Achievements - 1000/1000

I've been achievement-whoring a lot lately. I mean, really, what else am I suppose to do with three Guitar Hero games? Also, fuck Guitar Hero 3.

But it's a test of your true skill to beat the game with a regular controller! ;)

I'm somewhat of an Achievement whore and I couldn't even go through it for that!

As an aside, I'm most likely going to cut my GameFly sub to one at a time (if I don't just cancel it outright). The amount of games in my queue that are at Medium availability or worse is ridiculous.

I've contemplated GameFly, but I hardly have time to play the games I actually own so I'd just be throwing my money away.

IMO, it isn't really worth it because it seems the supply is no way near enough to meet the demand of people paying them $15-25/month. They need to about double the amount of distribution centers in order to do that.

Blockbuster is supposed to unveil a service similar to their movie one (where you can return what you get in the mail to the store) so I might try that out since there is a Blockbuster fairly nearby.

Started playing Diablo 2 again to try and fill the void until Blizzard get around to releasing Diablo 3 (which from the latest gameplay vids looks fucking incredible, it just sucks we'll probably be waiting until 2012 to actually play the thing).

I haven't been gaming a lot these past couple weeks, but when I have been, it's been Madden. I did start Operation Anchorage today on Fallout and got about halfway through it. I like the focus on combat.

Checked out the demo for Wet this morning. It looked pretty interesting from what I had seen of it in trailers and G4. Then I played the demo and I can't say I was impressed by it. I dig the look they are going for, but it just doesn't handle as well as I would have thought. I found the aiming mechanic next to impossible or just awkward. I don't know if its the fact that most of your shooting is done in slow motion or what, but it doesn't feel like there is any weight to your bullets hitting the enemies. Also, I found the character model didn't look right either. I may have to play it again, but they aren't the best I have seen by any stretch.

Returning to Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga after ages of it slipping into backlog. Good stuff, even if it isn't nearly as good as Paper Mario TTYD.

It also will probably join TTYD, Chrono Trigger, Mother 3 and Gaudia Quest (ok, that one is kind of cheating) as an RPG I actually will finish this year.

I got to the Shadow Queen on TTYD but never could beat her.

Going into it with filled star power, a fully leveled up Vivian, and tons of healing items helps. :)

Speaking of which, I beat Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga "today" in the wee hours of the morning.

The 2nd form final boss is just bullshit. After you beat the first form, you have to press A/B/sequences of the two to not die--because you've been reduced to 1 HP. There's no scripted sequence to save you or anything, you just need to avoid taking any damage at all by that point, until you get a chance to heal. Lord help you if one of your guys falls, because trying to jump over a fireball six times while Mario's fat ass is slung over your shoulder is a death sentence.

Thing is, the boss doesn't just attack once or twice; you may have to dodge 3/4 different sequences of attacks. i.e. jump over fireballs 3/4 times, counter-attack a punch, or jump/avoid multiple passes from swinging arms. Then maybe, maybe you'll get a chance to heal up and fight the boss proper. Even then, there's just a ridiculous difficulty spike for just that fight, and everytime you're thinking you make progress, the boss whips out another set of attacks you haven't learned to avoid yet. It's still doable (I won eventually), but it makes most "serious" RPG final boss battles look like an utter joke.

I absolutly loved Partners in Time and need to play Superstar Saga at some point. I own it but haven't gotten round to playing it.

I was playing Half-life 2 over the last month or so. Not hardcore, I'd say less than an hour a night & I was pretty close to the end. I went last night to play it & was greeted by the oldschool Valve logo (from HL1) and when the game loaded up I found that all my save game files were gone.

For the record: Valve suck balls.

My next arrivals from GameFly (which I am keeping since apparently the secret is to have as few games in your queue as possible) were Spiderman: Web of Shadows and Prototype. On the surface, they are almost identical games; you soar above a reasonable facsimile of NYC beating people up to earn points that you can use to boost your stats and allow you to more creatively beat people up while throwing cars at things and running straight up the facades of buildings. I was a bit sour on Prototype to start because the controls are a bit loose and I kept looking for a block button before realizing the game doesn't have one (you have a rechargeable shield and a dodge move), but a few missions in I got the hang of it. I "like" how Prototype starts with this epic fight where your character has all these cool powers....but then you jump back to the beginning of the story and have to unlock them all.

There's a new M+L game out for DS.

Finished Dragon Quest 5 DS today so started Black Sigil. It's pretty fun so far. Also, Willow (NES) and Mana Khemia 2 (PS2)

Anyone who enjoys old school RPGs needs to get Nostalgia for DS. I'm only a few hours in but I'm absolutely adoring this game so far.

I heard though that it has one of the things I dread, and that's like battles every 15 seconds and nearly insane difficulty.

Not that I dread it as in doing it, but dread it as in playing it.

I got Smackdown vs. Raw 10 with a gift card and I'm highly disappointed with it. Don't get me wrong, its the first Smackdown game I've bought since HCTP, but the story mode can be blown through in like a day tops. Also there's literially no options (I've tested both options and they lead nearly to the same place), and I find that trying to look through the created storylines to find a decent one is an f'n chore.

Though I made a pretty sweet diving finisher. Totally unrealistic in that someone could accomplish it, but it did unlock the acheivement "Finisher of the Year Candidate".

I downloaded The Ballad of Gay Tony. One of the first missions has you on a driving range hitting golf balls at a guy that's tied to a golf cart. Then you hijack a helicopter and blow up a yacht.

I'm sold. Plus, there's some new Lazlow! I don't think there was in The Lost and the Damned.

I haven't played it in a long time, but I'd agree on DKC2. We played the ever loving shit out of it back in 7th or 8th grade. Took forever but I do remember finally getting all the coins and all the other extra shit and it felt like the biggest achievement ever at the time. Then DKC3 came out, I played like one world and got bored with it.

As to what I've been playing I just finished my third play through of Tales of Symphonia 2, finally getting enough grade points to unlock everything I want for the next playthrough, not that I know if I'll ever play it again. Not being able to skip ANY of the talking scenes is bullshit, as they just go on and on and on.

Also I got Press Your Luck for the Wii yesterday, and mailed it back to Gamefly today. For $10 it'd be worth a buy to play now and then, but there's not much value to it, and they sell it for $40, so to hell with that. Also, they couldn't bother to get the sound right true to the actual show, and it's not like that would be hard, so it's a disappointment. On the upside the board play is true to the show. and the whammies are good.

I hadn't gotten around to playing many games lately, but being unable to do anything being sick, I've been playing through a lot of Smackdown vs RAW 2010. I'm about halfway through based on the achievements left and gamerscore. Had Borderlands and DJ Hero show up lately, so I will probably be trying out one of those soon. Also have some quick 1000s sitting around for the score-whore in me because I found the Ice Age game and the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs game for the price of a rental in stores. That's not even touching my crazy backlog or the Gamefly games I've had sitting around for like a month.

Smues, is that Dawn of the New Treader you're playing? Shit man, I traded that game in after about a week or two of playing. Waaaaaay too much dialogue, even for an RPG. Every time you take a step the main character starts whining about some shit and I just couldn't handle the silliness with the girl goofing off with the silly cat character.

Not that I dread it as in doing it, but dread it as in playing it.

I'm only 8 hours in but there's barely any random battles and it's one of the easier RPGs I've played in years.
