Run toward the ropes and press strike when you're close.

All he does is kick the rope.

I looked up how to do it online and it's a lot more complicated. It said you had to lay him against the rope and do a finisher. Okay then....

It looks like Showcase only unlocks outfits on the CM Punk side (and Big Johnny) meanwhile on the HBK side it unlocks a lot of characters.

It's not really that complicated lol. Getting people on the ropes is actually a bit easier in this game now. Just press X (A on Xbox) to get them in a weak grapple, and then hold R2+L2 and you can drag your opponent around wherever. You can drag them to the ropes, this also works with dragging them into the announce table, etc.

Some people do also have the suicide dive where you just run into the ropes and hit X, but it's a perk, and not that many people have it. Plus it's obviously not the one they were referring to in the challenge.

I'm still not grasping how to grapple exactly. The chain wrestling thing kind of sucks. But when I catch someone in a grapple (by pressing X) they just seem to do the same move every time.

Hold (not tap) the Irish whip button (circle) and a direction toward the ropes. That should power whip him into and over the ropes. Alternatively, if you're close to the ropes, you should be able to do the same thing but with a tap and he will toss him out of the ring.

You can disable chain wrestling in the options, fwiw. I think the only mode you can't turn it off for is My Career.

Grappling goes based on your opponents state, btw. Tap X by itself for a facelock, then to a direction + X for a low tier grapple. Tap X plus a direction for a mid tier grapple. Hold X plus a direction for a high tier grapple. Some of these will only work depending on if your opponent is groggy or not, and also depending on your stamina you may end up doing an easier move or failing altogether.

You can turn down the chain wrestling in the options menu. You can turn it off even if you want.

The grappling works similar to the old No Mercy grapple system, where there's weak/medium/strong grapples.

To do a weak grapple, just tap X.You'll see the collar/tie up animation. Then you have 5 options for moves. (X, Up/X, Down/X, Left/X, Right/X)
To do a medium grapple, you have 4 options, and that is to press the left stick in a direction while tapping X. (There's no grapple animation, other than sometimes pulling them to the center of the ring, they'll just start the move.)
Strong grapples are the same as Medium, except now you hold X, instead of tapping it.

Try editing somebodies moveset to get a better feel for the different moves and places where you can do moves.

The easiest way to figure out the moves, actually, is to go into the moveset editor and just go through all of the moves for a given wrestler. It will give you all the info you need to know on positioning and button presses and all of that.

X again plus a direction. Or x by itself will do it's own grapple hold, I think. You should boot up a two player match and just practice it. That's what I usually do with these every year that they come out just to get used to the controls again.

So are any of the downloadable 2k showcases worth it?

It feels shitty that it comes with 2 and i basically have to pay 30 for 3 more and unlockable characters after paying 50 for the game.

Well technically it's 6 new characters, 7 if you don't have Hogan, and a few new skins which act as different characters. Welcome to the DLC era.

Edit: Add two more to that number, I just automatically assumed Edge and Khali were in the game already.

Also the Showcases are not done / ready for download yet.

I meant the game comes with 2 showcases then you have to pay for 3 more.

But looking at what each one presents it seems the Warrior one is the only one that's worth it. But that's disappointing they're not ready.

What's not working about it? Nothing happening when you press X?

I hadn't encountered any problems with it. I mean other than it being pretty hard, you have to have that body part in the red for the CPU to tap typically.

Submissions work fine. I'm more upset about champions being called the wrong champions (WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler is referred to as "WWE Champion", the 85-98 WWF tag champs are called "the WCW World Tag Team Champions", etc).
