Sounds like career mode is for next gen owners only. I'm too old for that so I guess it's Rivalry Mode for me.

Oh man, I hated that. Two faces in a tag team? They better not be in the top 20 of rankings for the same belt or they will smack each other for NO fucking reason! Great universe design guys!

Two guys are ALLIES, are FACES....still turn on each other when facing rivals. Makes sense.

For this gen? I wouldn't be surprised if it were in-game., especially based on what I am seeing from the remastered version of TLOU.

CM Punk, famously estranged from the WWE since walking out in January, will be one of four headliners in WWE 2K15’s new 2K Showcase mode. The single-player campaign focuses on two big rivalries from WWE history: CM Punk and John Cena from 2011 to 2013 and Triple H and former DX partner Shawn Michaels from 2002 to 2004. The two rivalry threads will be presented as mini-documentaries, using plenty of real-life footage of the feuds combined with commentary from the wrestlers involved to set up the matches.

Players will battle through a total of 33 matches in 2K Showcase mode, unlocking content along the way by completing historical objectives that match up with what really happened in the ring. For those dreaming of other epic rivalries, 2K may just grant your wish further down the line. The publisher has already promised story-based rivalry DLC packs post-launch.

CM Punk remains a fan favorite, regularly eliciting chants at live WWE events, despite being off WWE programming for most of 2014. The former wrestler has shown no interest in returning to WWE publicly and was moved from the current roster to the alumni section on WWE.com following his formal contract expiration in July. On a recent conference call, I asked WWE executive director Mark Little about how the team came to use CM Punk given his current status with the WWE.

“Each year we try and create the best WWE 2K roster possible and even though CM Punk is not currently appearing on WWE programming we’re really happy that we’re able to still provide for everybody this rivalry against John Cena and CM Punk as part of 2K15,” Little said. “As much in the same way that Shawn [Michaels] currently isn’t active for the WWE either, but he’s still able to be part of WWE 2K15 because the WWE universe extends through all of the time and history of the company. One of the great things about being able to do the 2K Showcase and look backwards at some of these previous rivalries is to be able to share with the WWE universe all the people that might not be on current programming."

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels appeared on the call as well to promote the game and his part in the rivalry campaign. The dev team went to Texas to scan the wrestler with its sophisticated rig so that he wouldn’t have to travel far from home.

“I don’t think in all the 25 years that I wrestled, I don’t think I’ve ever been in front of more cameras at one time,” Michaels said. “I sat in front of more cameras in that one session capturing literally every wrinkle in my face, which may not be great, but the graphics have gotta be amazing in this game because the setup that they had for me when I went down was fantastic.”

Those two rivalries aren't bad. At least it's not rock/Austin and taker/kane again. how will they handle WM XX?

Their rivalry ended at Royal Rumble 2004, where there was no Rumble match.

not sure how legit this is:
Vincent Ingenito from IGN was answering questions about the game through Twitter. I've compiled everything for everyone in case you want to know a bit more.

- There is a 2K MyPlayer styled mode but he didn't play it considering it wasn't part of the build he played
- Hard to say how good the AI is this early but he noticed the AI didn't do anything glaringly dumb
- Compared to awful mechanics introduced earlier on in the series, the Stamina System is legit. Three tier meter, as long as you don't fully deplete your meter it slowly regenerates. If you fully deplete a meter you drop down to the next tier where moves get slower, and you are more vulnerable
- If you haven't played much fighting games or WWE games, it's fine. The learning curve compared to fighters is easy. As with all WWE games, there's a learning curve but it's not hard
- Left stick moves, right stick used in Chain Wrestling mini-game, taunting with D-Pad
- Didn't notice any big changes with submissions
- Move animation can look different depending on stamina. Many moves have 2-3 different animations depending on it
- Catch Finishers still in
- Kicking out is still the same
- Mysterio can't slam the Big Show
- More stats outline characters this year and they actually stick closer to them
- Showing pain/selling is significantly improved, especially on strikes as you are getting up, which used to be no-sold
- The "Grapple Lockup Event" only happens at the beginning of the match. It's not a QTE, positions are dynamic, and timing doesn't play a factor as much as decision-making

Yeah...it doesn't appear to play all that different to me. I'm still seeing no sells on the strikes. That isn't bad but so far this thing just looks like a new roster with a slightly nicer paint job.

So everything will still be is this thing glitch filled to me.

Don’t get me wrong: it hasn’t turned into something so complex to play that casual fans won’t know what’s going on. But the balance, pacing, and weight of everything has been tuned to fall more in line with the actual performances you see on Monday nights. Some of this comes down to little things, like the height of the ropes (which has never been accurate, by the way). But there are also a good deal of big things – new systems and mechanics that drastically change the way you play wrestling games.

Take the grappling system as an example. Just go ahead and eliminate any thought you had about walking up to your opponent at the start of a match and just delivering a DDT or a backbreaker because they failed to counter it. That’s just not how a match in the WWE starts, so when you press the grapple button in the early stages of a match in WWE 2K15, it initiates the new chain wrestling system.

Wrestling fans know the drill: the two wrestlers go right into a classic collar-and-elbow lockup to jockey for position. It starts like rock, paper, scissors – with each player pressing one of three face buttons, and the winner advancing to a more advantageous position. From here, both players play what is essentially a lock-picking game, rotating the right stick until they find the “sweet spot,” and holding it there to improve their respective situation. During this time, the player with advantage can land strikes, or even wrench whatever limb they’ve grabbed a hold of. It’s a lot more like the opening stages of a real match than running right up to your opponent for a spine-buster the moment the bell rings.

Grappling has undergone another key change: the four intermediary grapple stances are gone. Once you’re out of the opening chain-wrestling phase, you just press or hold the grapple button along with a direction to launch right into a move. You can still do a basic headlock to set up rudimentary moves, and the returning limb targeting system, but your core grappling moves will come right from standing. Again, this just makes sense. Once the “feeling out” period is over, how often do guys put one another into a specific hold before doing a suplex? They don’t; they just do it.

Animations were captured in a full, regulation-size ring this year, and all the in-game rings were rebuilt to proper scale to compensate.

2K15 packs a new stamina system that you absolutely must manage if you want to succeed. Running in circles around the ring to escape your opponent might seem like a fun way to troll someone online, until you’ve burned your wrestler out to the point of no return and you’re throwing spaghetti-armed punches for the rest of the match.

I'm just not seeing where it is a really new game yet and that worries me. This thing desperately needs a new engine and a design team that actually gives a shit. Which I know the last of the THQ guys DON'T give a shit, as they have proven the last few years.

The last game was sooo close but that damn custom logo bug fucked me up and the universe mode still being a busted up mess. But I can't say shitting season modes are uncommon, baseball and football games still haven't made that shit work so I can't say I expect perfection.

I really want to like this game and preorder it for Sting, but man, the burn wounds from the last few times. Shit.

I still had a lot of fun with 2K14 (and even '13 despite that 2 count bug) gameplay wise. The custom logo thing didn't bother me that much as I rarely do custom/create stuff outside of Superstar Threads.

The thing that makes me hesitant toward saying that we outright need a new engine is that it could always be a lot... A LOT worse. I mean, at least for the most part this engine has its roots in some good wrestling games of the past. For all we know, some game designer at 2K could think that the Acclaim Attitude/Warzone engine was great and we'd get a rehash of that.

That's a good point, going back to that Attitude style engine would be a complete disaster. And gameplay wise, yeah, it's solid enough to where I would keep going with it but it is starting to feel tired. What's odd is, things like collusion detection and features seem to be going backwards though. They put so much effort into fixing something that isn't broke but put little to no effort into fixing what is broke. That's what scares me about these WWE games every time. If the game has a major glitch? You are fucked because they will not be fixing it with a patch.

What bothers me is they put effort into a grapple system to make it more real, then that video starts with Orton irish whipping and body slamming Cesar's as the first move. That sequence where orton whips Cesaro over the rope and clotheslines him is what's wrong with the game.
