Also, let’s put it this way. He was hot when he left AEW but got no reaction when he showed up at the Rumble. They should have pushed him harder but they didn’t and now he might as well not even be there. Dragon Lee is kinda in that territory now too. If the reason you get over is because of your wrestling, then maybe you don’t belong there. There are very few exceptions.

Re: Styles getting the fake retirement angle, perhaps it will lead to a retirement match. Styles has said he doesn’t have much left and is winding down to retirement. Maybe this will lead to a career vs title match that gives him a high profile send off.

Book him in a Title Vs Career match with Moose (or whoever is the heel champion at the time) and have him lose in teeth gnashingly frustrating and overbooked fashion. Have Christopher Daniels, Dixie Carter, Claire Lynch, Rockstar Spud, and whatever other members of SEX are physically capable interfere. It's just how it should go down.
