I'm surprised by the release date as I'm 90 percent sure I went to see this in the theater, something I only did once a year before I turned 16 and could leave the house. (Jungle Book (1st movie ever- went because we won 4 tickets from a local kid's TV clown show), TMNT 2, The Mask, Liar Liar...maybe Batman and Robin?)
My brother and his wife started taking me to one yearly for my birthday.
I begged my mother to take me to see Liar, Liar as I really wanted to see it. She hemmed and hawed for a long time over the cost and bother of driving 30 miles to see a stupid movie. I knew about the Krista Allen scene from trailers or whatever and timed a walk to the bathroom to avoid sitting next to my mother awkwardly as Carrey made jokes about the size of a woman's bosom.

Not to go off on a rant here....

I know its release date cause the VHS release has Hogan cutting a promo on Ric Flair and The Undertaker(maybe to promote the last Hulkamania VHS?), which ties it to late '91/early '92.

Hulkamania 6 (11/28/91) #097
- WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan pinned the Undertaker (w/ Paul Bearer) at 4:34 with a roll up after Taker accidentally knocked Bearer off the ring apron (7/29/91; Worcester, MA)
- WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan (w/ Miss Elizabeth) pinned Randy Savage (w/ Sensational Sherri) with a clothesline and the legdrop at 12:01 as Elizabeth held Sherri back from interfering (10/13/89; Paris, France)
- Hulk Hogan pinned Stan Hansen with the axe bomber at 12:32 after a boot to the face; as he made his way into the ring, Hansen knocked down ring announcer Mel Phillips as Phillips introduced him (4/13/90; Tokyo Dome)
- WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan defeated King Kong Bundy (w/ Bobby Heenan) in a steel cage match at 10:18 by escaping over the top after kicking Bundy from the cage to the mat; after the match, Hogan chased Heenan inside the cage, threw him into the cage bars, and hit an atomic drop which sent Heenan out the door; Tommy LaSorda was the guest ring announcer for the bout; Robert Conrad was the guest referee; Ricky Schroder was the guest timekeeper (the debut of the blue bar steel cage) (WrestleMania II - 4/7/86; Los Angeles, CA)
- Hulk Hogan defeated Gen. Adnan via disqualification at 1:04 when Sgt. Slaughter came to the ring and attacked Hogan from behind with the WWF World Title belt; after the bout, Slaughter used the Iraqi flagpole to assault Hogan and then put him in the Camel Clutch for a lengthy period while Adnan held the title belt in front of Hogan's face; after letting go of the hold, Slaughter again assaulted Hogan with the flagpole before draping the flag on top of him (3/11/91; Pensacola, FL)
- Hulk Hogan pinned WWF World Champion Sgt. Slaughter (w/ Gen. Adnan) to win the title at 20:23 with the legdrop after a boot to the face; in the final moments of the match, Slaughter laid the Iraqi flag across the challenger, went to cover him, and Hogan kicked out and Hulked up, which then led to the finish; Regis Philbin did guest commentary for the match; Alex Trebeck was the guest ring announcer and introduced both participants; Marla Maples was the guest time keeper for the bout (WrestleMania VII - 3/24/91; Los Angeles, CA)
- WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan & Jim Duggan defeated Sgt. Slaughter & Col. Mustafa (w/ Gen. Adnan) at 4:05 when Hogan pinned Mustafa with an inside cradle immediately after Adnan threw powder into Hogan's eyes (7/9/91; Edmonton, Alberta)

Idk why anyone would want to see the Hulk-Sgt. Slaughter feud relived so thoroughly..
@BruiserBrody : WHY NOT!?

Surprised they put the WM 7 match on there since the WM 7 VHS would still be in rotation. Maybe should have opted for the Hogan/Warrior vs Taker/Sarge match that was taped that summer (or something close to that - can't look up results at this moment)

For something I think he only wore a few times, Earthquake's poop brown singlet shows up a lot in highlight packages.

Maybe this post is more appropriate in the "Obscure Moments You Think About Too Often" thread.

Also in this episode...Ronnie Garvin: Still there.

The Hogan/Slaughter matches at MSG post WM VII are actually good but Idk if they were on another Coliseum release.

At least one of the Boot Camp/Desert Storm matches was included on a budget one-hour tape. And, yeah, those rematches were a lot better than expected.

I think 6 was the last full length Coliseum video for Hogan. They had gone out of sequence before this VHS to do "Hulkamania Forever."

No one besides maybe Bruce Prichard will defend that storyline but for all of its faults, both Hogan and Slaughter really brought their A games for that series. The WrestleMania VII match itself is actually pretty dang good too but it just had misfortune of following one of the GOAT WWF matches so people mostly remember it for the crappy storyline.

And, for at least the 35th time, that Hansen match is awesome and my favorite Hulk Hogan match.

You can find my second favorite, the "Minneapolis Massacre" vs Dr Dave Schultz, on the first Hulkamania video.

I mean honestly, you have a top babyface pre-Hogan who comes back as a heel and challenges Hogan. It's like the Backlund storyline except that Slaughter was miles better than Backlund as a heel. And frankly except for the Iron Sheik feud Slaughter was far better as a heel. So that dynamic, absolutely. It's just that the storyline was a disaster.

It seems so simple too. Just play off the American hero angle and Slaughter being bitter that he was cast aside for the phony American hero Hogan (oh the irony).

Then again, an angry bitter Vietnam War vet might be a hard sell in the hyper jingoistic first Gulf War era when everybody seemed like they were overcompensating with patriotism to make up for how poorly they treated Vietnam War vets. Not as hard of a sell though as an angry bitter Vietnam War vet turned Iraqi sympathizer though, I suppose.

Kayfabe wise though, they were just in ring rivals. Like did Million Dollar Man do anything particularly horrible to him beyond the context of winning a wrestling match? You’re more familiar with the ins and outs of that feud beyond the PPVs.
