Also, I disagree about the lack of progressive policy. The platform is progressive and right now they’re trying to get everyone else on board. Public option for healthcare is a step in the right direction, taxes will be increased on the wealthy, college will be free for people who can’t afford it, and they have a comprehensive climate plan. It’s not all the way there but it’s moving in the right direction.

Anytime they asked John Kasich about some of Biden’s more progressive policies he always says that it’s okay if they disagree on things. Let’s relax on this idea that it’s some moderate right wing campaign.

The election is like getting in an Uber. Everyone has skin in the fucking game. You bought a ticket to a Lakers game for a couple hundred bucks. You can either get in the car that drops you off a block or two from the arena or you can refuse the Uber and never get there. Or you can have the Uber take a drive all the way to Sacramento to watch some other game you don't have a ticket for, for a team you hate. It's really up to you. And you gotta pay for both if you're crazy enough to do that.

At the end of the day while some people are mad, I would like to think that most reasonable people know that the Republicans have every intention of completely stripping people of their rights. They will actually literally tell you that. And that's the shit they don't keep a secret!

My problem is more with the naivety some party officials have in terms of accepting support from those who shouldn't have a platform.

The platform for this election campaign is plenty good enough for me.
Yeah. I'm fine with including former Republicans in the platform. I'm old enough to know that people do genuinely change their perspective and have remorse for their past actions. But where I have a problem is people who were architects of Iraq War and people like John Kasich who were horrible on women & LGBTQ issues as recently as 5-6 years ago. At the end of the day though, if you told me that Bush & Cheney themselves endorsing Biden would be what it takes to beat Trump well, I would shiver my spine and say "If that's what it takes..."

I'm progressive and hate the Democratic party (I changed my registration from Democrat to unenrolled literally yesterday) but I'm not (that) stupid. Trump is another level of evil beyond even the NeoCon idiots. Any galaxy brained, left wing argument against Biden is dumb. "Well, it'll fuel the protest movement more if Trump is re-elected"...it's hard to protest when you're thrown in a gulag.

The only people I've seen trying to egg on the accelerationist leftist agenda, where 4 more years of Trump will bring about a violent open revolution, are tankies. Tankies cannot be trusted because they are, primarily, youths (mid teens to mid 20s) who lack real world experience or the wisdom to understand that pro-Soviet works are propaganda attempting to undermine the anti-left propaganda put forth during the Cold War by arguing the exact opposite position. They praise Stalin and Mao without irony and, from my own experiences with them, do not work in the fields most would consider "labor" while attempting to speak for those in it.

This does not mean that we shouldn't hold Biden and Harris accountable for past actions, especially if those actions have directly led to thousands of deaths and incredible rates of incarceration for victimless crimes.

If you live in a swing state, vote blue. If you're in a blue state, vote your conscience.

Exactly my sentiment. Vote Biden/Harris then begin pressing on 1-20-2021.

Honestly, if Maine didn't have ranked choice voting, I'd vote Biden/Harris even though my congressional district is like 65-70% Dem and no risk of falling to Trump. I still miiight vote for Biden/Harris but I'm really glad I don't feel like I have to.

Maine's weird cause it's one of if not the only state that splits their electoral votes by congressional district. So District 1 where most of the population lives is safe blue while District 2 is purple-ish, leaning Trump.

It wasn’t a good idea to base an entire election strategy on someone being senile when all they had to do was go do a speech to prove they aren’t.

It was quite the way to end a day in which another major Trumper got arrested and Trump himself chose to put Ohio's electoral votes back into play. Very stable, very genius. Believe me.

I only caught 5-10 minutes of the speech replayed on morning news while I ate my breakfast but from what I saw, it seemed like Joe Biden at his very best. Besides Bill Clinton, I don't think there's any other politician in my lifetime that's better at displaying (at least what seems like) genuine empathy and compassion.

Inability to display empathy and compassion is one of Trump's more demonstrable weak point. I know everyone gets overexcited around convention time but this was first time, I believed that POTUS could get blown out in November.

Imo, the empathy is real with Biden. It comes from his lived experience.

It won't be covered as a runaway on the night of because Trump tweets are going to dominate coverage, but when all the votes are counted it will be a clear, wide, and very satisfying result. The Republicans will also lose the Senate and House.

I am confident in predicting a Biden win after yesterday. I definitely think the Dems will keep the House. I'm not there yet on the Senate but there's plenty of room to be hopeful.

Two of my neighbors had Biden signs stolen out of their yards last night. Honestly, given how red this area leans, I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see any Biden signs at all.

I'm still very skeptical that Ohio can go blue. If it was Trump v. Biden in 2016 I could see it, but based on people I know who voted for Trump in 2016, they are pot committed and drinking the dumb ass Kool Aid. It's funny because between Obama being the previous President and Hillary running in 2016, I still have a pretty good idea why people voted for Trump, or at least why it was the tie breaker to go towards him. And its kind of sad that old white guy Joe Biden is why Trump will get out of Office, but it has to be done.

I don't think it's too likely that Ohio flips. But, before Trump chose to attack one its businesses, I didn't even think it was a remote possibility.

I think if Ohio does flip it will be because of better voter turnout. I know a lot of people that didn't vote in 2016 because they hated Hillary or they thought that there was no chance that Trump would win. That said, every Trump voter in 2016 is showing up so we will see.

I feel like those tweets just cater to the alt-right. We are already lending credence to their bullshit by trying to get around mail-in voting. It's the equivalent of trying to appease a racist who believes a certain race is inferior by trying to point out ways they aren't. You are getting in their frame of mind, and dealing on their terms. You've already failed.

A lot of people need mail-in voting. Telling them to try and vote in person to get around that is the wrong message, and will demotivate some from voting for whom in-person is quite difficult. You are giving into fascism while taking away from yourself.

The Republican Party has chosen, for the first time in its 170ish year history, not to have a party platform this year. They are literally pledging themselves to Trump.

Yeah, but if they're not gonna deliver your ballot, you have no choice. We can talk about what you shouldn't have to do all we want, but the reality is that we have to.

My plan is getting absentee ballot and giving it directly to city clerk.

Also who is to say that Trump isn't going to try and do a 2nd national shutdown in October/November when it's obvious he's about to get pounced?

That's true, but placating and accepting this route is only going to let it happen again. Twenty years seems like a long time, and you'd think things should be moving forward. But nobody took the GOP to task for Florida 2000, and here they are doing stuff that's so much worse. If they set terms like this and force you to play on them, it's only going to get worse. There's nothing to suggest that working within the system will prevent this from happening again, because anyone in power can just bend those rules to keep doing shit like this again and again. That's especially true considering the fragile split of the Supreme Court.

I guess what I'm saying is this situation sucks and even if/when he loses I don't see it getting better. I'm going to take a more active political life to make sure this shit doesn't get to this point up here.
