Looks like Chip Kelly is planning to bolt from UCLA and back to the NFL to be Dan Quinn’s OC.

Basically if you can’t pay your players, coaches don’t wanna be there.

What is college football anymore if not formalizing being a minor league equivalent for the pros? I also worry about practice standards being changed dependent on whether you're paying your players or not, shit like that. Feels like it'd give carte blanche to head coaches of the top programs to work them to death because hey, they're being paid. Even then, what the players are paid becomes a miniscule drop in the bucket now that the fuckin' gloves are off on a lot of shit. Not sure how this would affect cases of illegal visits with women on campus used as an extra incentive too, as they might start reshaping how visits and recruiting are examined.

If this has all radically been altered already let me know and I'm wrong but what is all this shit. In the end these are still kids coming out of high school, I don't trust their decision-making 99% of the time.

He was desperate to get out of there calling about opening he could find. Hardly a surprise he bolted.

We have learned this off season that being a head coach for a program that can’t or won’t compete isn’t worth it and being second banana at another place that does and can relaunch your name value is far more important than going to the Sun Bowl.

UCLA has to fix their NIL situation. There are kids who play for them who aren’t getting paid anything lol.

It’s so bad he tried to get the Cincinnati HC job last year and was turned down.

That’s how bad UCLA is down now that their head coaches are panhandling to get jobs in Cincinnati.

If you ain’t gonna pay your players in LOS ANGELES, then get the fuck out of the sport.

Glad to see BOB take over the Boston College job. I think he'll be a good fit from a culture perspective, his obvious ties to the area (above & beyond the Patriots), and he can give the program a bit more legitimacy in hopefully keeping local talent in-house.

DeShaun Foster was one of the view players on a division rival I actually enjoyed rooting for back in the day.

Bill O’Brien hired his best buddy and Pats TE coach Will Lawning as his offensive coordinator and former Steelers and Giants DC Tim Lewis as his defensive coordinator. Lewis last worked as co defensive coordinator for the XFL’s Arlington Renegades, @HarleyQuinn !

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME MIDWEEK FOOTBALL, @HarleyQuinn ?

In terms of basketball, MAC feels like a downgrade from the Atlantic 10 plus a way more inconvenient travel schedule. Closest school is Buffalo six hours away?
Not a surprise on the football side... they already were a MAC team from 2012-2015 and that was (literally) the only conference willing to take them. It sounds like Umass was screwed - Either join the MAC in all sports or stay Independent as a football member and continue to struggle to book opponents/recruit.

Worth noting they scheduled Army and UConn through 2028.

"The UMass hockey team will remain in Hockey East. The school will need affiliate conferences for men’s lacrosse and women’s rowing, two sports UMass plays that aren’t sponsored by the MAC."

Glad to hear they're staying in the Hockey East though. That'd piss me off way more than them joining the MAC for football.

None of this surprises me one bit. I could tell it was gonna be chaotic when Deion basically ran off half the team from the get go and basically said, "If you're from Colorado and want to take pride in playing for the Colorado program, tough shit. Either you're talented or you're gone." College football is about talent and winning, no doubt, but it's also college and a lot is to be said about local town/city/state pride in going to a hometown college and having success on the field.

Then this offseason he turned heavily towards recruiting through the portal for upper end talent again eschewing what good programs do in roster makeup, building up that middle/low area so those players evolve by Year 3 to be key starters and high level talent.

He got away with it in the FCS at Jackson State because he had his sons who were elite talent join him and got a handful of upper level talent that never would've been there if not just for Deion. So of course they ran roughshod over that conference where other teams had maybe 2-3 players who could qualify as 4* level talent. Then Deion discovered he couldn't just walk into Colorado and pull that shit off the same way while watching his defenses just get punched in the mouth (and running his offensive coordinator out of town mid-season).

"Coach Prime did not conduct any off-campus recruiting visits," the school said in an email Feb. 28.

That means no visits to the homes or schools of recruiting prospects – which normally has been a traditional staple of the recruiting process in college sports.

By contrast, former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh had 145 off-campus contacts with recruits or their family members from Dec. 1, 2022 until he left for an NFL job earlier this year, according to data obtained by USA TODAY Sports in public-records requests submitted to several universities.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian had 128 of these off-campus recruiting contacts since Dec. 1, 2022. Former UCLA coach Chip Kelly had 55 of his own during that time, including seven home visits.

In Sanders’ case, his employment contract with Colorado also gives him an annual budget of $200,000 to use a private air travel service for recruiting called Wheels Up. He didn’t use it."

Already a fun day of football!

Georgia Tech beat #10 Florida State on a 44 yard FG and told 'em to fuck back to America. McNeese missed a FG to tie and lost to Tarleton State in an FCS game. Then Montana State came back from a 31-14 deficit to beat New Mexico with a 5 yard rushing TD with 10 seconds left to win 35-31!
