2023 & On - College FOOTBAW Thread

Solid blow to Penn State on the coaching side: "Clemson is expected to hire Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen to the same post for the Tigers, according to multiple reports Monday. ESPN reported a final decision is expected in the coming days, while CBS reported Allen has accepted the job."

Garrick McGee is leaving Louisville to be the WR Coach at North Carolina. Bounced around a lot but has experience going back to the early 00s coaching QBs, WRs, and being an OC.

Jason Jones is joining Alabama as Assistant DB Coach. Jones is a 2-time Alabama graduate who won the 1999 SEC championship as a defensive back for the Crimson Tide.

Andre Crenshaw is leaving Western Kentucky to be RB Coach at Coastal Carolina. A California native, Crenshaw played for Chip Kelly at Oregon and began his coaching career as a GA at Dakota Wesleyan. He also coached at Morehead State, Tennessee Tech, Missouri Western, and Southeast Missouri State.

Jovon Bouknight has been named Wyoming's receivers coach. He has previous stops at Marshall, Kentucky, Oregon, Texas Tech, and Utah State.

Pretty interesting scenario coming out after Wisconsin defensive back Xavier Lucas recently decided he wanted to transfer following his freshman season, but the Badgers refused to allow him to enter his name in the portal. He ended up unenrolling and going to Miami.

After some back-and-forth, the NCAA released a statement Friday saying that "NCAA rules do not prevent a student-athlete from unenrolling from an institution, enrolling at a new institution and competing immediately."

At the center of the controversy is the fact that Lucas and Wisconsin entered into a binding two-year NIL agreement back in December of 2024 that included "substantial financial compensation." He also entered an additional agreement with the Varsity Collective as well. Wisconsin is basically saying Lucas reneged on the contract and didn't honor it.

Then the Badgers note that they have "credible information indicating impermissible contact between Xavier and the University of Miami football program personnel prior to Xavier's request to enter the transfer portal. Direct interference with another institutions committed player and contractual interests is prohibited by NCAA tampering rules and the law."

I hope Lou Holtz starts crying while eating and chokes to death on the spot later tonight

Former Patriot player Ty Warren has been named the Defensive RGC/DL Coach at Rice. He was AHC/DL Coach at Stephen F. Austin last year. He joins former NFL player and longtime DB Coach Kerry Cooks on their staff (Cooks will be coaching the Safeties).

Increasingly it’s becoming apparent that Bill Belichick will never actually coach a single second at UNC as his girlfriend/handler has been allegedly banned from the team facility.

It’s been a disaster of a pr campaign for him and it’s not getting better.

The grip she must have gotta be legendary for Bill to go out this way.

What a fiasco, lol. UNC released a statement saying she's not banned apparently.

In interesting FCS news: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...moving-12-game-regular-seasons-beginning-2026

"Current legislation permits 12 regular-season games in years when there are 14 Saturdays from the first permissible playing date through the last playing date in November. In all other years, only 11 regular-season contests are permitted.

The recommendation also would standardize the start date of the FCS season as the Thursday 13 weeks before the FCS championship bracket is released, which is the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Football Bowl Subdivision teams have had 12-game regular seasons since 2006."

I'm ready for the Round One obliteration involving our first Ivy League FCS playoff participant. Not sure which side they'll be on, but I have a feeling the victor with the most incentive to have something to prove.

I was looking at this out of curiosity so I went back 9 years (ignoring 2020) to see who would've been playoff bound. I do think this'll also help make the Ivy League games much more impactful from a Head 2 Head aspect, especially when you get to the top tier programs.

2015: Harvard went 9-1 and beat Dartmouth H2H.
2016: Princeton went 8-2 and beat Penn H2H.
2017: Yale at 9-1
2018: Princeton at 10-0
2019: Dartmouth at 9-1 and beat Yale H2H.
2021: Dartmouth at 9-1 and beat Princeton H2H.
2022: Yale at 8-2
2023: Yale at 7-3 and beat Harvard H2H (Harvard went 8-2)
2024: Harvard at 8-2 and beat Dartmouth H2H.

As long expected, the SEC will be leaving the NCAA effectively in the 2028-2029 academic season.

Big Ten also believed to be following their move as well but not confirmed yet.

"The former Eagles teammates will reunite at Lincoln Financial Field this fall due to increased fan interest. The Oct. 30 matchup between Norfolk State and Delaware State will be played in the Eagles stadium after originally being scheduled to take place at Delaware State."

Reminder that the FOOTBAW SEASON kicks off today!

Tarleton State beat Army in a fun game 30-27 in 2 OT for their 2nd win ever over an FBS program after shutting out Portland State 42-0 a week ago.

Monmouth scored 35 points in the 2nd half to come back and beat Colgate 42-39.

#17 Kansas State had to pull off a game winning drive in a fun as a hell game to beat North Dakota 38-35. The type of game that really makes ESPN+ worth it. ND played their balls off to their credit and gave them everything they could handle.

People discounted TCU and they railroaded North Carolina completely. Good prime time showcase for TCU at least. Belichick and UNC are going to have some growing pains this year.

BC and Michigan State had a hell of a battle while Baylor knocked off #17 SMU coming back to win in OT. Also South Florida upset #13 Florida in what will probably be one of the season's biggest stunners.

On the FCS side, DeSean Jackson got his first win as Delaware State beat Albany 37-32. Presbyterian beat Furman in OT after a 2 point conversion 39-38. Bryant knocked off FBS UMass (lol... move them back down already!) 27-26. Long Island University(!) beat FBS Eastern Michigan 28-23. South Dakota State beat Montana State in 2 OT 30-24.

I approve these beat down scores that have come back by the way... Indiana shutout Indiana State 73-0 and Syracuse steamrolled Colgate 66-24.

Houston stomped Colorado 36-20 (Colorado's defense is still trash and they don't have Shedeur/Hunter to mask it offensively). NC State beat Wake Forest 34-24.

Why didn't Tennessee try another play to get closer or give their kicker a better chance at the end of regulation. Absolutely gutted.

A lot of crazy finishes... Delaware knocked off UConn in OT with a crazy QB TD run; Ball State beat New Hampshire after UNH completly screwed up the final 2 plays and botched any chance for a hail mary attempt; and Georgia/Tennessee & Notre Dame/Texas A&M were both nuts.

McNamara was 9-for-13 with 76 yards and two interceptions, including one that ended the game. Criswell was 5-for-8 with 108 yards and three TDs.
