They're running Chicago on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving this year. I don't think losing Punk will kill the Chicago market for AEW.

Rampage needs to be re-established as an A-show for any kind of change that significant to matter and that will probably not happen. It gets trounced if you do it immediately and I think the road when it gets there would be very hard.
Yeah, I don't think time slot is main problem. It's when it's filmed. With a hotter audience, I think Rampage can capture the cool Friday night wrestling vibe of ECW on TNN.

Well. I thought ECW on TNN was cool.

Oh it won't be killed whatsoever. It'll be livid, and it will be fantastic.

I doubt we're going to see WWE in Chicago in the mid 2010s levels vitriol. Yeah, I'm sure there will be lots of people that will be pissed that Punk isn't there but even in Chicago, there's probably gonna be people there who are glad he's gone.

Actually the best hope for that spot probably is mixing in more top stars and filming from smaller venues. Shotgun style.

It'll be an interesting hijack. The Elite will get the best reaction of their careers, and for that reason I wonder if the Chicago Era is finally fading.

Back on Rampage. I do like the idea of something different (ala Shotgun Sat. Night) if you don't move and expand it, and make it an A level show.

In an era where people have so many choices, where there is wrestling on tv almost every night, and in a bad time slot, people just won't watch a show they perceive as being B level unless it is very unique. You need something that will cause people to tune in.

I know when AEW first started they talked about running their shows in unique locations. That hasn't ever really happened. Friday nights at 10 would be a great time to create a party atmosphere. They need to make the show feel different to get people to watch if it isn't going to be at the same level as Dynamite.

There's definitely a place for a show like that. Just hit a smaller venue with a good sized card, not necessarily an A show but a solid B+, and make it about the atmosphere as much as the product. It's the most un-WWE thing a company with their resources can do.

Fightful is reporting Swerve and FTR were two (or 3 depending on how you count FTR) of the other names HHH contacted.

Also, they didn't give a name but reported:

"Finally, while we don't have a name, an AEW source also said WWE had reached out in August to an AEW name who had been with the company since the start, but that even we'd be surprised to learn they reached out to."

Omega? Darby or JungleBoy would also be surprising due to size.

Swerve makes sense cause he was just on Renee's podcast reiterating how happy he was to be in AEW (and how much happier he was when he was in WWE).

Yeah. Tony should buy or rent a 1k-3k seat venue to run Rampage in most every episode. I mean I know he has Daily's Place but something more intimate than that. Having a home base always worked very well for ECW (and to a lesser extent TNA).

I think Eric Bischoff had the right idea when he wanted to relaunch WCW in '01 with a residency at a casino in Vegas. Of course, that particular example means AEW might not be able to run a yearly PPV there.

I'm going to say Hangman or Jericho, just because.

No one wants Jungle Jack for anything.

I can't buy Hangman as a top guy anymore. His run was lame and while I think he's a great worker he's just not a guy you build around. I think he and Mox can do some great stuff but man I can't take him seriously in that match.
