Now that I've not only seen the classic Guided by Voices lineup live, but also had a full beer thrown directly into my face by Bob Pollard himself, I can finally commit suicide with a clear conscience.

Let me guess...you reported him to a mod?

No beer in my face, but Bob Pollard handed me an unopened beer the first time I saw them. He did this only after I showed him my driver's license. (I was 22 at the time.)

That David Byrne/St. Vincent show I went to was pretty amazing. It was the first time I'd ever been to a show at the Ryman, so that was a bonus. Before the show started, all the instruments (two guitars, drums, keys, and the eight brass instruments) were laying on stage, each under its own spotlight while ambient noise played. Then they just walked out and played through about twenty songs (they'd play a few songs from the new album they put out and then take turns playing solo stuff) in under two hours. Pretty impressive considering the choreography involved. The people playing the brass instruments did marching band formations all night (though when St. Vincent played her song "Cheerleader" everyone else laid down on the stage like they were dead - but the band played on regardless). If you're interested, Byrne played Strange Overtones, Naive Melody, Lazy, Like Humans Do, Burning Down the House, and Road to Nowhere.

I ended up in the front row for a Springsteen concert last night. Being surrounded by people singing every word of songs you've never even heard at the top of their lungs is quite an experience. Sorry, real fans, but I touched Bruce Springsteen's leg and you didn't.

Saw The Life and Times open for Local H tonight. The show was insane. The Life and Times was actually pretty good. Local H kicked ass as expected.

If you were worried Lifehouse may not be touring anymore, don't worry, they are.

I forgot my iPod and had to listen to the radio on the commute in. Apparently it is the year 2000 and it is a big deal to go see Lifehouse at some local casino. My favorite part was when the DJ was talking about holding your woman when they start to play "You and Me" and looking into her eyes. I laughed but then found "Hanging by a Moment" stuck in my head later.

I kind of want to go to that casino that night to see who goes to a Lifehouse concert in 2013.

Lifehouse still is a pretty reliable hit machine in the vein of Daughtry and Shinedown, or at least they were up until three years ago or so. Working in a mostly female office, I'm subjected to Hot Adult Contemporary radio and had to hear their 2010 songs "All In" (a blatant rewrite of the single "Spin" from their hilariously titled second album Stanley Climbfall) and "Halfway Gone" a few hundred times apiece. They suck now. Also, because Bob Barron would have if he was here, I feel compelled to mention that Lifehouse was on Boston Public once.

Dang, did not realize. I had a similar talk today with someone who wasn't aware Bone Thugs n Harmony did anything since Crossroads.

I enjoyed the HELL out of "Halfway Gone". It was a cheesy pop song wiith a good beat. "First Time" was a nice track too. For as much metal as I listen to, Lifehouse remains one of my biggest guilty pleasures. They played here ahout two years ago and I've regretted not going ever since.

"Hanging by a Moment" and "Sick Cycle Carousel" are legit good Lifehouse songs. I wouldn't listen to them outside of those two hits and no way in hell would I ever think about seeing them live.

I'm seeing Soundgarden next week for the second time since their reunion only this time it will be in a smaller, more intimate venue and not the huge, bloated stadium I saw them in back in July '11.

My friend called me with urgent news on Saturday: Soul Asylum is touring again. Seeing them on Feb. 16th.

I guess it can go here, every year the NY Mets have a concert series after games. They bring in random bands to play after a handful of games. This year they have NAS, O.A.R, Third Eye Blind and Foreigner playing this year.

Anyone else going to Bonnaroo? I haven't been since 04, and it seemed like a good idea. Paul McCartney, Bjork, Wu Tang, Tom Petty, Wilco ZZ Top, Billy Idol, David Byrne, Swans, Baroness, Nas, Dwight Yoakam, and John McLaughlin, plus lots of drugs

So, remember the Summerland tour I attended last summer featuring acts from the 90's? Well they announced the 2013 line-up consisting of Everclear, Filter, Live (whose lead singer apparently quit years ago), and Sponge (a band I've never heard of). I will NOT be attending this one.

In other news, Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray is putting together his own nostalgia tour this summer consisting of Smash Mouth, Fastball, Gin Blossoms, and Vertical Horizon. I think my mind just exploded while typing that.

Sponge had 2 hits in the 90's with "Plowed" and "Molly (16 Candles Down the Drain)". I'm sure you've heard both of those songs at some point.
