Nice call on Plowed. It's the only of the 2 songs I've heard before and haven't heard it in a long ass time.

So, remember the Summerland tour I attended last summer featuring acts from the 90's? Well they announced the 2013 line-up consisting of Everclear, Filter, Live (whose lead singer apparently quit years ago), and Sponge (a band I've never heard of). I will NOT be attending this one.

In other news, Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray is putting together his own nostalgia tour this summer consisting of Smash Mouth, Fastball, Gin Blossoms, and Vertical Horizon. I think my mind just exploded while typing that.

Everclear I never got too into, but Filter, Live and Sponge are all bands I've wanted to see, especially Live.

Pet Shop Boys announced they will be in New York on September 16 and 17. I will be getting tickets for the 16th tomorrow (hopefully the pre-sale isn't sold out). This will be the 3rd or 4th time seeing them (I can't remember, I know I've seen them twice for sure but for some reason I want to say there was another time).

Yeah, I got the Pet Shop Boys notification email today. Was tempted, but not quite sure yet. I'm assuming they put on a good show if you've seen them a few times, or are you just a diehard? I like them, but I'm not at all familiar with their post 80's material.

Guns N Roses is coming to Buffalo in June. First time Axl's been here since 1992.

I'm a die hard, as they are my all-time favorite musical group, but their shows are amazing. They don't have anyone opening. It's just them for over 2 hours and their show is very artsy. Since it's just Neil and Chris, they don't dance around on stage or anything. Chris is at his keyboard while Neil sings, changing their attire throughout, while stuff goes on in the background, dancing, sets moving, etc.

if it's a version of that "Up Close And Personal" type show they've been doing, I highly recommend it.

I'm sure it's a fun show. But I decided to pass on the presale. $55 for the cheapest ticket seems kinda steep for a band I'm not incredibly passionate about.

Got a few shows lined up. Chelsea Wolfe and Swans, Death From Above 1979, Liars, Black Flag, Cold Cave, Tomahawk, Big Black Delta, and some local Brooklyn bands that play here pretty often. Came close to getting a New Order ticket, but having already seen them in October, I think I've had my fix.

I'm contemplating New Order and Tomahawk this summer. Both sound promising.

Seeing Andrew W.K. and Marky Ramone tomorrow night.

He owns a club in NYC so he'll be performing Ramones covers with Marky Ramone and his solo band. I called the club to ask about tickets and Andrew himself picked up! One of the weirdest but coolest moments ever.

Word. Santos Party House is a cool venue. I met him there once. Very nice guy. Kinda timid in a way. Not what you'd expect.

Holy fucking shit. That was one of the more fun shows I've attended. Andrew W.K. is just so full of energy and the crowd was wicked. There was no guardrail separating the fans from the stage so people were regularly hopping on and singing with Andrew (who was cool about it and even held the mic out for them) before stage diving. I contemplated being one of those people but I would have had to fight through a few rows of people to do so. Overall, a pretty awesome time and when they come back around in October, I might have to go again.

I saw Andrew WK in 2003. One of the best times I've ever had at a show. The energy he puts out is second to none. His dad was there and joined him for a couple of songs on stage.

I just got tickets to see Jimmy Eat World in July. They're one of the few bands to hit in the early 2000's with the pop/punk tag that actually still makes good music.

Yeah, it's usually the bigger NYC venues with the guard rails. Last time I was there, some drunk/high crust punk in his underwear was stage diving. It was a small crowd though, so everyone just moved out of the way kinda like that first scene in School of Rock.

I was trying to get tickets for Johnny Marr last night, but no luck. Haven't heard any of his new material to be honest, but I figured it'd be a good time.

To add to the Andrew WK discussion in here, he's opening for Black Sabbath this summer, so I'll be seeing him for the fourth time on August 4th. It'll be weird to be able to sit down during his set, and to watch him perform in front of a crowd that largely doesn't know or care about him. But at least it'll be a good double bill because I was worried the opener would be Hollywood Undead or something.

So, Jason Newstead (former bassist of Metallica for those living under a rock) formed a solo band and they're apparently coming to NY this summer. My friend is going nuts about getting tickets but I'm undecided. When I saw Metallica back in '04, Rob had already joined, I guess seeing Newstead this summer will complete the group?

12 year old me would have been all over that hype. I remember thinking he seemed like the most down to Earth guy in Metallica when their Behind The Music episode aired. The Seton Hall radio station used to play Echobrain pretty often one summer (2001?). I recall liking "Spoonfed" at the time.

Going to see Liars on Sunday. Looking forward to that. Also just got a ticket for Bosnian Rainbows, although I'm pretty indifferent to that show, and it's more about hanging out with friends. They're obsessed with Mars Volta and will follow anything the members do now that they've broken up. BR is pretty fun live, though. But my fandom for Omar Rodriguez has died down over the years.

This reminded me when I saw Buckcherry opening up for KISS in 2009. The crowd couldn't care or didn't care about Buckcherry at all, and all you heard was incoherent noise going through the speakers. Everything sounded muffled and was too loud for what they were trying to achieve.

Same deal with this band called Monstro that I saw the other week. They were opening for Alice in Chains. Everything was WAY too loud and distorted. The vocalist might as well have been mumbling. They mainly received "you gave it a decent effort" applause.

The National did about 90 minutes at a free show and managed to shut down one of the busiest intersections in all of Toronto. Incredibly shitty gameplanning by the city because the square was already full by the time they got onstage and the crowd spillover onto the streets had a few near-misses by cars.

The National killed it, obviously.

Dying Fetus, Exhumed, Devourment, and Abiotic are on tour together later this year. They're having Waking the Cadaver (blech) open for the first half and Rivers of Nihil (surprisingly decent) open for the latter half. I'm excited.
