The second time I went through with my second character, I did the puzzle in about two minutes. But that first time was absolute murder.

Killing that demon is a much more efficient manner of doing the quest anyway.

I'm thinking with my first PC character I'm going to change up my gameplay methods and play either a mage or a ranger. I previously played a dual wield rogue and a tank warrior. So I feel like I need to significantly change up my approach to make it far.

I dunno, I found the puzzle pretty easy. But I also killed the demon after solving it, just because I wanted her to think she was free before she tasted the cold steel of my blade. :p

So what's everyones plans? Carryover your Warden or start a new one? I'm kinda partial to my first Warden, the Rogue, so I'm probably going to keep him going into Awakening.

I'll probably carry over my Warden.

I think I'm gonna go with a new one for my original playthrough and port my mage in for my 2nd playthrough.

Having played DAO on the PC for the last hour or two, running around in a Baldur's Gate style top down perspective, I can confirm without a shred of doubt that the ports to the console are heavily inferior.

It just works so much better. A better way to put it is instead of battles feeling confused and chaotic (which I admittedly kind of liked), every battle I've had so far has been completely in control. Given the free pause system (No holding down a damn radial dial) and free camera, you can quickly assess the battle and adapt. Instead of waiting for that mage up on the hill you can't see to lightning bolt up your ass.

The seller even sold me working DLC codes. Very nice haul for 24.50 total.

I tried the PC version at a friends but wasn't put over by it. Sure the battles were less challenging, but I think that's a bad thing, TBH. I just felt that I got more of an intense battle experience out of the console version.

As far as the radial button goes, you can switch that to toggle instead of having to hold down, in the Options menu.

Beat it earlier today...ending was "OK". Decent, but would have liked something a bit more "epic". It obviously leaves room for a sequel, which was to be expected. The most interesting thing at the end was the whole Morrigan situation (I took her up on her "offer").

My friends and I were wondering if she was going to show up in the Expansion. I'm thinking no way in hell.

That's worth saving for the sequel (already slated for March 2011).

Yeah, that would make more sense especially since
her kid would probably still just be a baby or toddler in the expansion. I bet in the true sequel they will do sort of a Beowulf thing.

Just a heads up for dubq, I read that Return to Ostagar came out for PS3 today.

Expansion pack out for a few days but I won't be playing it for months... sucked into FF. Everything I've read/seen makes it look phenomenal, though.

Hell yeah. First thing I'll be downloading when I get home from the Dominican! Sure it's only an hour of gameplay but I love this game. ;P

So the expansion is something along the lines of the Neverwinter expansions; more of a full-on sequel than a side campaign?

I'm currently rocking a 20 gig hard drive, so I might hold out for a disk release.

It's available for download too. Close to 2gigs though so I'll go the disk route. I have the hard drive space but why waste it when a disc exists?

Speaking of sequels.. the Awakening expansion comes with a little postcard with a big red dragon, the EA logo and the date 02.01.2011 across the bottom. Full sequel or second expansion?

Anyone have the specs on the range gameplay hours are in this expansion? I've read anywhere from 12-20..

I was told 10-15 by someone who completed it. That's a huge ripoff for a $40 expansion.

I think that's just the main campaign though. Sidequests boost that time a bit from what I've read tonight. Though the length of the game shouldn't translate to whether it's a huge ripoff or not. If it's a quality experience then I think it's worth it.

As far as the expansion itself goes.. so far, so good. I'm really liking some of the new characters.. the mage Anders in particular. I'm only about an hour into the game, but I haven't seen Dog at all so far.. I hope he comes back.. or at least another Mabari.

Yeah, but it's still on the short side for an RPG. But I agree with your point that, if it's high quality, it's probably worth it. The Resident Evil games are short, and they're worth full price. Heavy Rain looks like it'd be worth the full $60, too. Those are just a couple examples.

Shivering Isles was always $30, but close enough. I'm just worried that they're releasing too many expansions for DA. They've already released 4 DLC packs and now one expansion, with more on the way. All of that on top of a very long game. It's going to end up costing me $120 and 120 hours of my life if I want the full experience.

I'm at 14 hours now.. there are still three trophy's left for the main plot plus a few side quests so I think I am at least 75% of the way there. I think in the end it's probably going to end up being around 17 - 18 hours.

Sounds about right. Just got my last party member and going through the sidequests in preparation for the push to the finish. The new stuff is good, although to be honest they've almost expanded too much. Unless you import early or finish at level 20, you don't have enough levels to really explore the new stuff. As a warrior, I do enjoy the Massacre skill, as we finally get a damage skill for when we get surrounded. A party with me, the returning character (whose a TON more useful in this than in the original game), the dwarf thief (excellent melee thief) and Anders (healer, great intro and interactions with the other characters) is my most useful party. Haven't run in to anything that has challenged me yet.

Yeah I agree that there doesn't seem enough time to explore the new skills and whatnot. As far as the parties go, I'm trying to do my best to use each newb equally.. one thing I found with the original game is that I normally just stuck with a core group and guys like Sten would be completely ignored in favour of the warrior who had something to do with the main plot (Allistar). So yeah, I'm trying to prevent that this time around.
