And guns are fucking heavy in this one. The ones I drag around run from 13-19lbs, which is ridiculous.

Fatman is 30+ pounds. I've only resorted to using the fatman once so far and it was against the Mirelurk Queen. Took three nukes to kill the bitch.

I am running a build so far that I've never done before or even considered. I'm pretty much maxing out luck and critting my way to victory. If you haven't looked, check out the luck perks from 5-10. From mysterious stranger, to crit storing, to crit damage increasing by 50%, to richochet instakills... all crazy good. For bosses now, I store 3 crits, get close enough and shotgun blast 3 crits to the head. It's performing very well.

I wandered the north part of the map and came across Outpost Zimonja.

Let me tell you, level 6 is not the time to come across a Power Armor-wearing Raider wielding a Fat Man, but man was it badass as shit to sidestep mini nukes whizzing by my head.
Also his tag team partner: a Legendary Raider who caught on fire instead of dying. That was a nice one-two fuck-you combo.

I like crafting, but yeah, the systems are explained terribly. The only way to scrap gear seems to be to drop it on the ground, enter settlement mode, and scrap it. You should just be able to do it from a workbench. But, it's been nice turning all those leather arms and leather legs into leather I can use for upgrades rather than selling them for 2 caps. I built a steamer trunk next to the power armor station to hold all the things I actually want to keep, and everything else goes to the material pile.

I didn't even realize that Red Rocket was also a settlement. Might relocate there because Sanctuary is annoyingly large.

Oh, and I've found that the guns require a lot more trial and error this time around because there are so many mods available that change their core functions. It's also easy to forget how good a strong pistol can be given that you can get 4-5 shots in VATS whereas laser rifles and whatnot only can pull 2-3 out of a full meter.

This. I'm noticing that only some of the armor/weapons are scrappable at the work bench. What's up with that?

Apparently if you set the difficulty to Hard you get more legendary encounters. I ran into a legendary.... Radroach.... in the sewers earlier, lol.

I think some armor and weapons are quest related or just unmodable.
I can't mod Grognak's Axe.

On the way to Kellogg's base, I encountered a deathclaw. I died and reloaded the save and it wasn't there anymore. Thank God. Kellogg had a Legendary Synth with him, so I ran to the armory and grabbed the Fat Boy and aimed at the Synth. They were both killed in the blast.

Salem Witch Museum is a short but cool area. It's like a horror game with spooks and jumps. FYI, be somewhat leveled when you do it and wearing your power armor wouldn't hurt.

I've weaned myself down to a few heavily upgraded guns and only about 110 pounds of carry weight when I start my wandering runs. Fallout still does open-world wandering better than anything.

From Tenpines Bluff, I watched a super mutant suicider kamikaze a group of mongrels. Overkill, buddy!

I also haven't taken my power armor out again and I'm about 15-16 hours in. Gotta spruce it up and get more than a handful of cores.

I don't ever use my power armor but I keep every set I find. I have a row of 4 sets (plus one on the rack) in front of my shop in Sanctuary.

I just don't like using it in this one. It's noisy, slow and I hate how the HUD changes.

I agree. Also, you can't craft anything with it on.

Today I went to the Shamrock Taphouse to get the robot and the raiders were shooting at me outside while these three Mirelurks were following me. I ran into the bar and the Lurks spawned inside. The raiders were shooting at me and the Lurks. I had a Legendary one take out most of the raiders.

I've gotten to the point where I can't do anything without having to babysit a settlement.

Every time I fast travel somewhere to do anything that doesn't involve a settlement I have to kill raiders or rescue a kidnap victim.

Was wandering around Boston and came to a hospital. Figured Piper and I could clean it out with no problem. Worked our way down (it was about 4 stories and was basically a huge hole with a winding set of descending ramps around the perimeter) killing off the bandits. Jumped down in to the basement and found a fusion core and not much else until I turned a corner and came face to face with a deathclaw literally less than 10 feet away. Luckily I was hiding and it was focused on Piper so it didn't see me so I went in to VATS with my badass silenced 10mm pistol I got off a legendary ghoul that did radiation damage on top of it's usual damage. With my 10 in Agility I was able to fire about 10 shots at it's head. Hit 4 times, each with the 2.0X sneak multiplier. It was still focused on Piper somehow, so while it was wailing on her I switched to mu automatic rifle and started emptying clips into it as fast as I could. Managed to drop it right as it dropped Piper and turned towards me. Nerve wracking, but awesome at the same time.

On an unrelated note, I don't even use my sets of power armor, but I heard that human companions can wear them without using up cores. Might do that to up their survivability.

Haven't done much settlement development outside of Sanctuary, so I've only had to fight off one attack, and that was at Abernathy farm.

I wasn't using the power armor either but after encountering a pack of ghouls that included two legendary ghouls and one glowing green "irradiated one" (that had a skull beside it's name) I decided to give it a chance. I like how they've made it more than just armor pieces you put on like in older Fallout games. It feels like a mech suit. I also like that radiation doesn't effect you when you're in the suit - I'm not sure if this was a thing in previous games or not.

I actually use my power armor somewhat regularly. Just because I hate being over encumbered, (esp since I went with a charisma/intelligence/agility build) so the strength boost is a nice perk, allowing me to pick up tons more stuff to scrap. Plus, you're still able to sneak around it so it doesn't hinder that. I have to imagine its probably weird to the raiders though to see a guy walking around in power armor...using a snub nosed pistol lol.

Also, fun fact, that everyone probably already knows but I totally didn't notice right away. You can equip/unequip the items on all your settlers. Aka, dress them how you like. It's a nice touch. Have one settlement with majority people wearing greaser jacket/jeans and red bandanas, for absolutely no reason at all, but it's the greatest thing ever lol.

Yeah I love that! I love that you can choose the equipment too - and not like in Skyrim where it just equips the most powerful item.

I also read you can equip other weapons on them, but that you have to give them ammo. They have infinite ammo for their default weapon, however.

Have any of you really built out your settlements yet, with walls, shops, and so on? I always set mine up with the basics--water, food, some sleeping bags, and heavy turrets for defense--but I haven't really dug in and turned any of them into fortresses or real communities, probably because battling through super mutants while trying to find locations downtown is more my speed. I only just figured out how to move people from one settlement to another.

How? I can't figure that out.

All I've built at Sanctuary is some walls around the bedding area.

In workshop mode, highlight a settler. You should have an option to move them displayed on the screen. On PS4, it's pressing square.

It seems like you can't move everyone. The crew at Sanctuary seem locked there, and the original two at the nursery can't be moved either. I think you can move anyone who isn't an original settler for that spot.

I'm in love with weapon crafting. I tricked out a sniper rifle with all the level 2 Gun Nut mods, and made a wonderful silenced 10mm that can fire off something like 7 shots in VATS.

I've gone deep enough to actually name my crafted guns. I'm currently rolling with guns like my Armor B Gone rifle and Ol' Snipey.

I named them so I wouldn't accidentally sell them.
