Someone on Twitter pointed out that Reinsdorf's comments are explicitly forbidden in the CBA. We'll see if anything comes out of that.

The Guardians, their only risk is money spent. Didn't give up any prospects. I think it's a no brainer even if the playoffs are unlikely.

And probably most importantly for Cleveland, it prevents Minnesota from getting those guys. If you can’t make the playoffs yourself, you might as well screw over a division rival in process.

Is it worth a couple million dollars though just to give the Minnesota Twins a marginally worse chance at winning a playoff series?

Spencer Strider has 245 strikeouts in just 159.1 IP for an obscene K/9 of 13.8. He's only thrown 5 games of 7 IP or more. Yet 3 of them have been 8/12, 8/18, and 8/25.

Maybe it's just me(?) but it does feel like some teams have started allowing pitchers to hit 7-8 IP more in the last couple months than in years past.

The San Diego Padres are on a truly enviable streak of losing every extra inning game this season. They're 0-11. One more to catch the record set by the '69 Expos who were not exactly filled with stars.

Thanks to an incredibly cushy schedule, which includes them playing the worst teams in all of MLB in a row, the Toronto Blue Jays have actually managed to get themselves back into the playoff race. That’s especially impressive considering three of their best players are injured right now. Of course, this was helped by the fact that the Astros stomped the ever loving Hell out of the Rangers the last couple of days. The Rangers have gone 4-14 over their last 18 games. Yikes.

I honestly thought the Jays were out of it at this point. That series against the Rangers next week is extremely important.

With their 43rd win last night, Oakland Athletics will not be worse than the 2003 Detroit Tigers.

If they can win, 19 out of their last 22, they may even avoid losing 100 games. I wouldn’t go to Vegas to bet on that outcome though…

Insane game going on between the Brewers and Yankees today that presumably no one is watching. Yankees were no hit until the 11th inning in what was a scoreless game through 10. Game tied 3-3 in the 13th inning

I was gonna say that MLB should do Thursday-Saturday series in September but then I remembered NFL runs on Thursdays too. Crazy how much NFL has lapped MLB in popularity in the past 20 years.

Trea Turner since standing ovation at Citizens Bank Bank.

Before: 480 PAs, .235/.290/.368, 10 HRs, 34 RBIs, 21 SBs
After: 151 PAs, .389/.431/.820, 16 HRs, 41 RBIs, 6 SBs

As disappointing as it started, this is still one of the best SS seasons in Phillies history. Turner has a shot at 30/30.

Luis Arraez fell hard in August with a dismal .236 BA but has bounced back with a .333 BA thus far in September. His current BA is .348 for the season.

Red Sox have fired GM Chaim Bloom.

Timing is curious. Idk why it couldn't wait another two and a half weeks until the end of the season. I honestly thought he was going to get another season to see if his rebuilding strategy was going to pay off.

And two out of the three Theo successors won World Series championships. I don’t think there is any other market with that itchy of a trigger finger with GMs. Brian Cashman would have gotten fired in the early ‘00s if he worked for Fenway Sports Group.

Hey Al, think Kodai Senga has a shot at the Cy Young if he has a dominant last few starts? I doubt but he's making his case for a top 3 finish.

Senga would be helped by the lack of a clear leader for the award. I don’t know if there’s anything for the voters to rally behind. Best case he wins out he’s still what, 13-7?

Snell I guess is the front runner at 14-9. I don't think W-L record means as much anymore. Or anything at all.

Steele is 16-3 but doesn't have dominant K numbers.

Guess Senga finishes 3rd

One of the Philly accounts I follow had an interesting takedown of Snell. The BB/9 is bad. It's one thing when you're effective in spite of it. But when you average less than 6 IP a start and your bullpen is losing games, what are we even doing here?

Snell has pitched 2 IP in innings 7-9 all season. I may need to start shouting from my lawn.

146 games in, run differential for the A's sits at -299. It's going to take a few blowouts to catch the '32 Red Sox. The A's quest for historical baseball ineptitude is also hampered by the technicality that the Royals now have a worse record. The Royals feel like the more embarrassing team tbh. Zack Greinke is starting tonight. I can't see him wanting to build on a 1-15 season, so enjoy him while you can.

"Defensive efficiency" is the rate of balls in play turned into outs by a defense. The inverse of BABIP. The worst defense in the American League? It's not the Royals or the Athletics. It's the Red Sox.

I don’t think Kansas City being less exciting than Oakland is a hot take at all. As have some potential building blocks like Brent Rooker, Mason Miller, Zack Gelof and Estuery Ruiz. Royals have Bobby Witt Jr, Salvador Perez and a “Who’s Who of ‘Who Cares?’”
