But Bret vs the under-recognized and under-valued WCW workrate midcard would've brought him back mentally. I want that Psychosis match now.

With the anniversary of "I respect you Bookerman" upcoming soon, I watched the Sullivan/Hugh Morrus vs Pillman/Arn fake "shoot" on Nitro.
It is a wonky match. Sullivan and Pillman do two exchanges where it is visceral, sloppy brawling, with each man taking a turn going for the eyes and no selling the others "pro wrestling" punches. However, Sullivan does a tree of woe in the middle of the "shoot", which I expected Pillman to crawl down from before it could be executed, but Sullivan does hit the charge, then goes back to "shooting".
I guess Arn and Hugh weren't in on it? However, Hugh may have seen the no selling and decided to get in on the act as he no sells a bunch, which sort of takes away from Pillman and Sullivan's "shoot".
Arn interrupts one of the skirmishes and drags Sullivan all the way to the side of the entryway so that the arm of Paul Orndorff can whack him with a broom. I think that was the only Mr. Wonderful incident to avenge the Horsemen "crippling" him. A feud was obviously planned as Paul was on a pre-tape at the Clash to cut a promo in a neckbrace on the 4H.

- Also on that Nitro: Tweener Lex and Sting fight the Road Warriors. Animal's back being bad is a major talking point. Jimmy Hart runs down with a piece of metal instead of his megaphone and Lex cracks Animal in the spine/kidney with it, which somehow knocks him out for the pin. Sting is unamused.
- I FFWD through Flair vs American Male Bagwell.
- Benoit faced WCW champ Savage... This was every babyface Savage match after his 1991 turn. Sell, sell, sell, sell, heel slips on a banana peel and Macho hits the elbow for the win. Typical cringey commentary as Heenan calls Beniot a "Killer" as Woman runs around ringside as a Macho Valet. Woman turns on Macho Man and the Horsemen and the Giant pounce. Liz is useless as possible. May as well have gone full 1987 and had Liz run to the back to pull Hogan in for the save. Hogan runs in and gets his eye worked over. BAH GAWD he's going to be blind this Sunday at Superbrawl!!!
-Benoit does take a nasty missed dive to the floor, smashing his head into the floor at an alarming rate. Good thing CTE didn't come back to haunt him...

Edit - It didn't click right until now that Sullivan and Pillman did "shoot" eye gouges on the same show that Hogan did a blade job sell of an eye attack....

Worldwide - 2/1/92 -
Big Van Vader (w/ Harley Race), Cactus Jack, & Terrance Taylor defeated Ron Simmons, Van Hammer, & El Gigante at 8:23 when Cactus pinned Hammer following a double axe handle off the middle rope as Hammer had Taylor covered following the Hammer Rocks

The Main Event - 2/2/92 -
Ron Simmons & Abdullah the Butcher defeated Larry Zbyzsko (w/ Madusa) & Cactus Jack at 7:52 when Simmons pinned Cactus with a spinebuster; after the bout, Simmons brawled with Zbyzsko as Cactus brawled with Abdullah around ringside; Cactus eventually assaulted Abdullah with his own kendo stick before hitting an elbow drop from the apron to the floor; moments later, Cactus assaulted Abdullah with a rolled chain fence until he was pulled away by other wrestlers (1/92; Center Stage Theater)

Ron Simmons had some wild partners on TV in early Feb 92. Abby was a babyface for a hot minute at this point and he and Simmons suffered from the black guy rule of wrestling booking.

I can imagine the promo had it taken place on TV. Tremendous. You know Handsome Jimmy would've called Backlund "Howdy Doody" at least once.

I like to think that Backlund walked to the ring in his usual unflappably stoic fashion while Boogie Woogie Man did his dance in circles around him.

I feel like it says something about Southern rasslin's superiority to the yankee Northern Territory that Backlund-Graham was one of the hottest pre-Hogan era WWF storylines and they're just background fodder for Jimmy Valiant's war against Paul Jones' Army.

Backlund and Karate Graham facing off is what's up, though. On a weird level Bob Backlund vs Paul Jones' Army is oddly perfect.

I feel like there's an alternate timeline where Backlund doesn't take a hiatus and forges on as a solid mechanic in JCP's mid-card until he can comeback and go crazy up North.

Edit- Backlund as a stoic but slightly disconcerted member of The Varsity Club!

Like, Backlund fits weird places. 100% should've had some involvment with the Varsity Club.
