Cooley is highly underrated. He had some great stuff with Adrian Street back in the day.

The Apters ran several of these "WCW newcomers" articles I can recall off hand. One in the summer of 89 to plug Pillman, Hall and at least one more guy. Then in 1990 there was one with Dustin, Curtis Hughes, Dutch Mantel, State Patrol and several others.

---
Maybe this is just my perception, but it seems the Apters pushed Cooley quite a bit considering he was never a big star outside of Alabama/Continental. He did get some NWA title shots IIRC.

Looks like Cooley lasted all of 15 or so matches for this run. He beat some jobbers and State Patrol on TV and did jobs at house shows for Bigelow and Harley Race (in St Louis).

I'm pretty sure Cooley made it to WCW in 1995 for World War 3.

Looking at his Cagematch though, Wendell Cooley was active as recently as 2019 though!
Also featuring 79 year old Bob Armstrong in action!

I was really bummed we didn't get Vader vs Giant after they teased it.

I guess I mixed him up in my head with Pez Whatley being in it and the Apters doing a (fake) interview with him about how this was his last chance to become a World champ.

I feel like I brought this exact topic up recently. If they were able to convince Jericho to stay, he would have been a great Starchild. Kanyon would have been a great backup choice or he could have been the Catman if Jericho decided to not jump to WWF for this dumb BS. Idk what '99 WCW roster member would have been weird and cosmic enough to pull off Spaceman.

Tacky as it might sound on the surface, Sandman/Scott Hall would've been legit fun at one point. Sandman was made to sell those punches.

The only good part of Sandy in WCW was that he got into the best shape of his life before returning to ECW and putting on, arguably, his best in-ring work.
