A company called Prime Entertainment tried to do a sold show with WCW in 1993...in Texas Stadium. This was announced at the same point where WCW was running SMW towns and SMW would draw larger houses.
The Dallas show was cancelled after only 19 tickets were sold. (Per Meltz in the sheets at the time)

Now ‘93 WCW was mostly complete doodoo creatively and commercially but I think an argument could be made that the seeds were planted for WCW becoming #1 on this day. It felt like Flair coming home was a moment where they said “OK. Now we can start over again.”

Very very few promotions get that opportunity. Although Impact certainly has tried a bunch of times lol.

Flair's return was very nice. It just always seems kind of undercut by his not being able to work right away. It also feels weird hearing Jesse call Flair matches, for some reason.

IIRC, that was a fundraiser that WCW just co-promoted with a local indie so they were probably scrubs that couldn’t even make the cut on WCW’s overstuffed ‘98 roster.

I think WCW Magazine might have done an article on it but it could have just as easily been WOW Magazine. I know I saw a photo of Terry Funk with the title and the Misfits in Action holding him on their shoulders.

Never knew that DDP was briefly fired by WCW in late 92. They rehired him around summer of 93. Had to be because Bischoff gained power around that time,

Yeah, DDP was Jake The Snake’s handler on the indies for those few months between his runs. Which really makes the DDP Yoga/Jake recovery store even more heartwarming since DDP probably worked with Jake at his absolute worst.

In Beyond the Mat, the infamous scenes with Dennis Stamp are revolving around "Terry Funk's WrestleFest" which was supposed to be his final match in his Dad's old Territory base. FFWD 3 years and WCW ran a house show in Amarillo....Funk wins the US title. Just the Funker being the Funker.

All they needed was a five minute Bret destruction of Bobby Eaton or Brad Armstrong that would be decisive but still really good, then do whatever nWo run in bullshit thing after. Best of both worlds at the time.

Bret probably picked Adams based on loyalty or something.
