I like Immortal Technique and The Streets. Well, I like other rappers, too, but those guys especially.

I like pre-pimp-era* rap, around the mid-90's. Ie: Digable Planets, GZA, Warren G, etc. Nowadays the Streets are good, IMO. But if I'm ever in the mood for hip hop in general, regardless of when it was made, I'll throw on some Blackalicious.

* and by pimp era I mean 99% of the garbage that's been floating around out there since 1999/2000.

Yeah, I like older stuff, too. I also like other current artists that I didn't name.

Don't worry, I know it's one guy. The word is plural, though, and my brain turned is into are. :p

Sorry, but I'm not from "da hood, y0." I don't care for ugly faces and big fat asses, I don't want to "get crunk," and I don't do drugs. I believe in a hard day's work for my pay, I believe in mutual respect amongst my peers. I believe in talent above marketing. I'm familiar with Star Wars, indie horror/sci-fi, and punk rock. If rap is meant to be the "music of the people," why would I listen to a bunch of men who don't look, talk, or act like I do, let alone have entirely different belief systems, ramble on about topics I have little care for? The few rap artists I do listen to are either better-than-average at what they do (Ice Cube, Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Run-DMC) or have something about them that I can associate with. I'm a white nerd from the suburbs. So why the motherFUCK would I want to listen to a hundred thousand different people rhyming about how the "white man has got me down" (Immortal Technique, anyone?) or about "backin' dat azz up." MC Lars speaks to me. He, along with other rapcore artists, take rap music for what it was meant to be: fun. There's a quote from Run-DMC that I can't find, but the summation of it is that 80's MCs would do party-rap because they didn't want to be reminded about the world of shit that they lived in. Plus, how many rappers do you know could take the Scorpions' "Rock You Like A Hurricane" and sample it into a dance beat? How many could do rhymes about Edgar Allen Poe one minute, and then break into ones about depiction of Hell throughout literature? Shit, how many rappers actually even KNOW what the fuck Dante's Inferno actually is?

It's all good Kamala - you got a laugh out of me by posting that meme. Even better: I pictured Brody's promo version of it as I was reading it. :D

Is his entire routine always heavily reliant on swearing and saying "African-American person" every other word?

I remember one of his biographers said that the reason Debbie Rowe got artificially inseminated with an anonymous sperm donor instead of Jackson just fathering the children (let's be honest, those kids aren't his) was that Jackson didn't want to have black children. If that's the case, Williams probably has a point about Jackson's self loathing over his ethnicity.

M-a-c-a-u-l-e-y C-u-l-k-i-n? *checks wikipedia* Oooh...one off, it's Macaulay! Darn. I used to call him Kiernan McCulkey as a 4 year old for reasons beyond me.

And him being the father only really makes sense for the last kid. Would have still been in his teens for the first two. I guess it's possible given the fact that it's Michael Jackson we're talking about but there's got to be a minimum age for these type of these things. I don't want the sperm company collecting my seed if I decide to inseminate lesbians for beer money!
