He's not doing something right lol. If he has a modded system, shouldn't he be getting them for free?

He apparently doesn't know how to compile the discs himself.

Modding the 360 is easy if you have a good technically ability. It involves opening the console up and flashing the firmware of the dvd drive to essentially let the 360 bypass its copy protection.

The way microsoft scans for hacked 360s is through the games. Copied games dont have "stealth" patch on them which hides the fact they are copies, but theres a program that applys the patch for you.

If you play a game without said patch your xbox will get flagged and when microsoft does its yearly ban waves (usually around november) you have a 90% chance of getting banned from XBL.

What do you guys know about modding systems? I thought Microsoft could easily ban modders, but it turns out that that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm really tempted after seeing my friend get The Beatles: Rock Band, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Guitar Hero 5 for a grand total of $30, but I'm worried about possible banishment. Also, I have a collector's mentality and really like to have the actual discs and cases and such.
Microsoft is more worried about banning people who are cheating in games on Xbox Live ruining other people's Live experiences. I had a friend who was playing copied game for about a year or so and never really got caught...well he did just over a year later but I think it's because he decided to play multiplayer with those games instead of taking my advice and just staying the fuck off Xbox Live while playing those copied games.

Im very confussed right now. Ive downloaded ODST burned it etc etc and its installed to the HD.. but i got a disk read error. How is that even possible?

Apparntly its been known to happen with original games as well, any ideas?

No, listen to Venk this time. Microsoft may not do much about piracy, but they just banned a veritable fuck ton of people who pirated ODST. I guess, judging by your gamercard, that it is too late for you.

Im already expecting to be banned due to me playing a patched version of ghostbusters before i knew that its risky. And besides some retailers in America are shipping the game early.

The whole disk read while installed thing has me stumped... ive no idea whats causing it.

Nah, ive been led to belive that the rip i downloaded was a tad dodgy, not enough to stop an install, but enough to screw up the game.

Im redownloading as we speak.

But yeah from what ive played of ODST its just halo with less health, and campaigns that can be done in any order.

The redownload worked. ^_^

I headed over to wikipedia to see what the new update I was prompted about the other day was all about.

"Mandatory update that prepared for subsequent growth of the Xbox 360 console and/or Xbox Live. Specifically, preparations for the additions of Facebook, Twitter, & Last.fm to the dashboard".

Neat.

So I'm in the mood for a pinball game. Should I get Pinball FX since it dropped to $5 or the Williams collection that was just released?

I recommend going out and finding an actual pinball game to get your pinball fix.

I played the Brutal Legend demo and I very much enjoyed it. If it had been the full version I would have played it for hours last night (which with my short attention span...I never do) so that says something. Also got a few really good laughs out of it.

An entertaining demo.

I haven't tried it out yet, but I downloaded the Brutal Legend demo last night. Lots of interesting demos have come out recently.

All Microsoft does is ban you from XBL? Can't you just create a new username...?

Aye, the console gets blocked off XBL (so you could still use it offline), but the only way they notice if you've played a copied game is if you've downloaded a crap rip of the game and the CD tag is inaccurate (which is very rare). Even then if you do get caught you'll be paying £200 for a new console, which will be nothing compared to the amount of games you'd have had for 'free'.

I'm tempted to do it, only because you get games a week early, but haven't done it yet.

EDIT:

The only game I've known to have caught people out was a cracked version of Crackdown, and that was only people tried to use it to get into the Halo3 Beta.

People sell premoded unbanned 360s without the cables/hard drives/controller etc for around £70 at the forum i get my games from.

The warranty is gone on mine, so I was thinking of flashing the DVD drive myself. Either way I think I'll have to buy a new console soon.

Suppose I could do that as well as flash the DVD drive at the same time, since both would void any warranty anyway.

The Williams Collection game is en route to my house from gamefly. I'm looking forward to play some pinball myself.

I think my Xbox bricked after the update. It isn't turning on and I unplugged and plugged it in again.

Mine updated just fine, the skyplayer however is shit. You need to have either Sky broadband or Multiroom to make use of it from what i gather.

I can't actually get the update. I log in, get told I need it, it spends a few minutes trying and then fails. Which effectively keeps me off of Xbox live. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate that you get signed out automatically when you don't download the latest update for live or the game you're in? Very annoying.
