I cannot for the life of me understand why the UFC has kept Arlovski around. His style has devolved completely around fighting to not lose and he's actually improved defensively so the odds of him getting slept are way lower, the last dude to stop him was Ngannou in 2017. And what they should be doing is book him against other OG fighters but they match him up with young dudes who they (theoretically) should want to build the division around.
I guess because he is sort of a name? But then again, like the commentators mentioned, people debuting in UFC were born after his first fight so I can't imagine there is a significant portion of the viewing audience watching for him.

Yeah but he hasn't finished anybody in 6.5 years. There's a whole generation of young people who've grown up watching the UFC that are now in their mid to late 20's that only associate Andrei with horrifically boring decision wins.

Also, Bellator card was way better. How many times can we say that?

Paulo Costa said at the presser for Saturday's card that he weighs 211 pounds. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Vettori agreed to a catch-weight of 195 but the idea that Costa can cut 16 pounds in two days and not get pulled by the NSAC is still a huge x-factor.

I remember when Rumble came in way heavy against Vitor, there was still an agreement that he couldn’t weigh over 205 for fight day. Wonder if there’s a similar deal in place.

I’m not quite the fan I was ten years ago. I think the rosters have just exploded too much to keep up with.

I know LOTC's post was in jest but the cards have seemingly been going for quantity over quality. The recent Fight Nights have been especially putrid and at best, mundane. I also think the overall quality of the product has been down this year, compared to those of the past.

Welp, looks like the only "money match" the PFL had to offer just got flushed down the toilet: Clarissa Shields got handed her first loss and, frankly, she's looked outclassed in four out of the six rounds she's fought. I know that PFL was hoping to build up to Shields/Harrison, but Clarissa has a lot of work to do, yet. I can't see any outcome other than her getting absolutely mauled by JudoBae, at this point.

She's still the GWOAT boxer, though.

Shields still looks like she has GOAT potential in MMA but it takes a long time to get good at this. There is still lots of money to be made when that happens. The expectations placed on her were ridiculous.

This guy is disturbed af but he is also super intelligent to be aware of it all in this manner. His assessment of himself sounds like it was done by a professional. Most people don’t have that kind of self awareness. He sounds like a real life Dexter.

he’s the worst matchup for Izzy in the division but his wrestling is a question against the guys he has to beat to get there.

Izzy would win but it would be a dogfight for a while. I think this is another Colby case where people’s disdain for someone blinds them to the fighter’s skills.

I don't see the guy who at times was getting oustruck by Krys Jotko being able to bring much to the table. And for the record, Strickland's gimmick is lame as hell but I don't have much disdain for the guy because he isn't that interesting.

It’s not a gimmick, he wouldn’t have admitted to being pushed into neo nazism if it was. Regarding previous poor performances, he’s improved a lot. The Hall fight is a better indicator of where he is at now. His striking defence has improved a lot but it doesn’t matter because he strikes like a Diaz brother with more power.

Good card on Saturday but I have to say, Chandler/Gaethje, Billy Q/Burgos and Edgar/Chito are way more interesting to me then two title fights where the challengers have no business challenging for the belts.

Where is this mentality coming from that Colby is an elite fighter? Somebody explain this to me please.

I don't think he's elite. He beat a bunch of good fighters without finishing them and gave the current champ a tough fight. Very good, but not elite. I'm sure it's just something they are using to push the fight and people fall for it.

I think how opponents fare after losing plays a pretty decent factor in how we look at whether fighters are elite or not. In the case of the truly elite (Anderson, GSP, Jones, Khabib, Aldo) their opponents still did very well after losing and in a lot of cases went on to challenge for the belt again.

The only person Colby has beat that went on to have a winning record is Max Griffin. Literally everybody else is either hovering around .500 or has gone on a losing skid.

He was the consensus number two welterweight for like five years, and he gave the champ a super close, tough fight. He's like at the Fitch/Koscheck/Wonderboy level. I'd say that's elite, but to each their own.
