Outspoken pro-gun nut Ted Nugent bans guns from his concert. People have already claimed FAKE NEWZ and "it was his management team, he had no say in it!"

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/08/data-vandal-changes-name-of-new-york-city-to-jewtropolis-across-multiple-apps/

Late yesterday, users of Snapchat and a number of other applications began to report that the label on in-application maps for New York City had been changed to "Jewtropolis." That change in data from the mapping developer kit company MapBox had been pulled in from OpenStreetMap—a community-driven mapping project also used by Wikimedia.

Looks like Brazil is about to probably vote in its version of Trump.

Seems like the world's got quite a case of fascism.

I love this song!

Once she was finally outed, she explained that it wasn’t stealing because Republicans aren’t people, to begin with.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/nov/08/mexico-amlo-marijuana-cannabis-legalization-rollback

Sánchez’s bill also would allow every Mexican to grow up to 20 marijuana plants on private property and produce up to 17 ounces (480 grams) a year. Edible marijuana products would be prohibited.

The effect of Marijuana legalization in both Canada and Mexico (as well as several US states) would obviously have a pretty big impact on the US in general. I do wonder how the cartels will react to legalization, but I'd expect they'll still be pretty involved anyway.

Amazon are building offices in NYC (Queens no less!) and people are, predictably, not very happy.

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/416382-kansas-city-health-department-pours-bleach-on-food-meant-for

The Kansas City Star reported that the group Free Hot Soup KC had intended to distribute food such as home-cooked chili, foil-wrapped sandwiches and soup to the homeless on Nov. 5.

But the city's health department confiscated the items at separate parks where the food was meant to be distributed.

Officials said that the volunteer group did not have a permit and that the food was not prepared in approved kitchens, therefore deeming it a public safety risk.

https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/national/cyntoia-brown-life-sentence-decision-tennessee-supreme-court

A woman who was 16 when she killed a Nashville man who solicited her for sex must serve at least 51 years in prison before she's eligible for release, according to the Tennessee Supreme Court.

On Thursday the court said defendants like Cyntoia Brown, who are convicted of first-degree murder committed after July 1, 1995, and sentenced to life imprisonment, can't become eligible for release from prison before serving more than five decades.

The court's five justices were unanimous in their decision against Brown, who was convicted of killing a 43-year-old man in 2004 when he took her to his house for sex. Brown has said she killed him after she feared he would kill her.

Thursday's ruling came in response to a lawsuit in which Brown argues her sentence is unconstitutional, citing a 2012 opinion by the US Supreme Court that said mandatory life sentences without parole for juvenile offenders violate the US Constitution.

The Tennessee Supreme Court explained in a statement that "under state law, a life sentence is a determinate sentence of 60 years. However, the sixty-year sentence can be reduced by up to 15 percent, or 9 years, by earning various sentence credits."

According to the Tennessee code, those credits include recognition for good behavior or participation in educational or vocational training programs

A district court previously denied Brown's motion, per court documents, pointing out she hadn't been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole -- just a life sentence.

The case is pending judgment by the US Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, which asked the Tennessee Supreme Court to share its opinion.

I've cherry picked my FB feed pretty well so that I'm not seeing if my right wing nut job relatives are commenting on this. Every post I've read in my bubble is in support of the defendant, Ms. Brown. It caught my attention because how it is presented by most of the people in her corner, "She killed her rapist in self defense and is now serving a life sentence, Brock Turner only got a few months for rape."

I've gathered that it's in Tennessee, Tennessee is full of racists, and she was only convicted because she was a minority, per the supporters. Also, it is cruel and unusual for a 16 year old to get a life sentence (this argument is one I'm familiar with because they're arguing that one or they were arguing it in this state).

I went ahead and started looking into "the other side" to see what in the high hell is going on for any jury of any make up to convict with these facts. What could have been presented to sway them to convict and then for appeals to fail as well.

The prosecution's case indicates that there is evidence that Cyntoia Brown killed the man in cold blood, premeditated. The information further says she went with him to rob him.

It boils down to people deciding if they believe the testimony of Ms. Brown or the case presented by the prosecution. That's the only basis anyone seems to have to pick a side. Her word vs. evidence that could be corrupted. I haven't seen anything that says why people think it's corrupted other than "Tennessee bad." It seems to me that since they're at the level of State Supreme Court the evidence against her has to be solid, right!? Rationally speaking?

I've resolved to not comment on anyone's posts asking why they feel one way or the other (and again, my entire feed is people I haven't hidden and the reactions are all one sided). I have resigned into not having an opinion based on "well all my friends think this so this is the side I'm choosing since we agree on everything else."

I mean yes, if this poor child *really* was a victim then GOD DAMN the state for prosecuting her. GOD DAMN every step of the appeals process for also failing her if there's compelling reason to believe she did not receive a fair trial/was set up. I'm pretty much at a point of "bewildered, no opinion."

I guess in the end: any TSMers following this? What's the pulse in your areas? I know we have some TN posters, right?
