So I'm pretty bummed out about this guy killing Cecil the Lion. I'll never understand the big game hunting.

I don't even need to say this, but:

White-Privilege-AMEX.jpg

What does this story have to do with race besides the author making race the focal point in the headline and comparing it to an unrelated incident with different police in a different part of the country? I bet if it were a black male in this story the author would have wrote "Black make forced to put dignity and freedom on the line in a game of rock paper scissors". This is the kind of journalism that irks me.

No, the difference is that a black person would've never been afforded the opportunity to win their freedom by besting the police in rochambeau.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

Some random stories.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/greene-county-commission-confederate-flag

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — While governments debate taking down Confederate flag or removing it altogether, a county in Tennessee is considering raising the divisive banner.

The Greene County Commission will take up a resolution Monday to fly the Confederate flag on top of the county courthouse alongside the American flag.

The resolution was proposed by Commissioner James "Buddy" Randolph. It says the flag honors those Tennesseans who fought in the Civil War, during which time the state had large numbers of both Union and Confederate supporters.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that the county was among the staunchest in East Tennessee to oppose secession, with the majority of its residents fighting in the Union Army.
I love that last part.

Kosovo’s lawmakers are getting feisty again. A heated argument in parliament today ended with one minister detonating a smoke bomb. Opposition leader Albin Kurti is the alleged miscreant, and he reportedly kicked at least one smoking canister (emitting what may have been tear gas) around the room until two of his fellow ministers fainted.

The Justice Department is set to release about 6,000 inmates early from prison — the largest one-time release of federal prisoners — in an effort to reduce overcrowding and provide relief to drug offenders who received harsh sentences over the past three decades, according to U.S. officials.

The inmates from federal prisons nationwide will be set free by the department’s Bureau of Prisons between Oct. 30 and Nov. 2. About two-thirds of them will go to halfway houses and home confinement before being put on supervised release. About one-third are foreign citizens who will be quickly deported, officials said.
Let's hope there is a lot more of these.

You are saying for a fact, without knowing anything about them, that those 3 cops are racist and never would have did that if she was black.

I'm not entirely opposed to this concept. I actually have a coworker whose husband isn't working because of all the free stuff they get with having 4 kids and a 25K one person salary.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

Texas already does this. They only give you three months of food stamps (at a luxurious grand total of $200 per month) before cutting you off if you're not working. And really, should more states be following the examples set by Texas?

Just FYI, Romney said that, if elected, he would reduce unemployment to 6% by the end of his first term. It's now at 5%. Is Romney secretly the actual President?

Regressivism to the fucking max on the part of Starbucks.

The notice, in Arabic as well as English, reads, “Please no entry for ladies, only send your driver to order. Thank you.”

The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the most influential law enforcing authority in the Kingdom, ordered the café’s management not to admit women, according to Emirates 24/7.

According to Cosmopolitan, Starbucks issued a statement explaining their action. ”Starbucks in Saudi Arabia adheres to the local customs by providing separate entrances for families as well as single people. All our stores provide equal amenities, service, menu, and seating to men, women and families,” the statement read.

“We are working as quickly as possible as we refurbish our Jarir store, so that we may again welcome all customers in accordance with local customs,” it added.

I don't go to Starbucks anymore, but if I did I'd stop.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

Doesn't every single business in Saudi Arabia do the same bullshit? According to the article, it's the government ordering them to do this, they don't have any choice in the matter.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

True, but it's hardly unusual for American companies to do business there. Most of our biggest banks and energy companies have a presence there, as does everyone else from IBM to General Electric to AT&T to Coca Cola. Yeah, it sucks that the USA is such close economic friends with a shitty theocratic dictatorship like Saudi Arabia, but Starbucks shouldn't be singled out as if they're the only ones doing this.

Nobody singled them out.

Any American business that has restaurants in Saudi Arabia that don't serve women should be named and shamed. Period.
