Any American business that has restaurants in Saudi Arabia
According to a bit of googling, that includes: McDonalds, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Subway, IHOP, Applebee's, Fuddruckers, TGI Fridays, Steak 'n Shake, Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut, Mooyah, Longhorn Steakhouse, Fatburger, Planet Hollywood, Chili's, The Cheesecake Factory, Buffalo Wings & Rings, Ruby Tuesday, The Melting Pot, Popeyes, SmashBurger, Wing Zone, Pizza Inn, Hardee's, Quiznos, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Papa John's, Cinnabon, and Dunkin' Donuts. And probably a lot more that I missed. Planning on boycotting all of the above? Starbucks is hardly alone in their complicity here.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

I like how you cut the most important part of my sentence off. Now list the ones that don't allow women into the restaurant. Also, I am fully prepared to boycott any who don't allow women into the restaurant. It is called principle or having moral fiber if you like. I draw the line at refusing service to anyone because of their gender, race, or sexual preference. You have a habit of doing this, so I'm sure you'll change the subject and tell me something about how Saudi Arabia kills gay people. That's a valid point, but that's not what we're talking about here. I'm sure they would not lash a man for walking into a store and ordering a caramel macchiato, but they would do so to a woman if she walked into that specific store at that specific time, and it's a gigantic problem that a supposedly progressive business would agree to those principles instead of closing the store until the restaurant was fixed so that women could access the place.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

I guess you missed this bit from the article you posted:
The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the most influential law enforcing authority in the Kingdom, ordered the café’s management not to admit women, according to Emirates 24/7.

It's not Starbucks' decision. It's the government forcing them to do it. Presumably, this commission with the amazingly douchey and self-righteous name is making similar demands of all public eating establishments. I'm not saying it's not fucked up; of course it's fucked up. Nobody is saying that it's a good thing that the women are denied service. But the corporation and the store aren't the ones mandating said denial. The only thing Starbucks is guilty of here is simply doing business in Saudi Arabia. And if you wanna condemn them for that, fine; but then condemn all those other restaurants as well.

Maybe this warrants a thread but maybe it doesn't.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/23/magazine/how-should-asian-americans-feel-about-the-peter-liang-protests.html?smid=tw-share&_r=0

Asian cop in NY shoots and kills a black man and gets convicted. The Asian community protests. Some believe he shouldn't be convicted, some aren't happy that he's being used as a scapegoat, and others argue that he deserves to be sentenced but acknowledge that other (white) cops who have done the same thing (Garner, Ferguson) deserved punishment as well.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

It is funny how unjustified shootings tend to get prosecuted MUCH more often when it's a minority officer. Like the two black cops who killed the little white boy in Louisiana, for example; they were arrested and charged within a week of their crime. Of course theirs was the most blatantly illegal shooting in recent times, considering that they were acting outside their jurisdiction, pulled a guy over for no reason, and then their body cameras showed his car stopped and his hands in the air when they riddled the car with bullets. But still, the trend seems insidiously true; Peter Liang was arrested for doing basically the same thing that white Chicago cops get away with on a monthly basis.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

I'm conflicted because while I understand people's frustration that this man was probably-most-likely targeted for his race, if you break the law, you break the law. This officer definitely deserves whatever punishment he'll receive but the other (white) cops from Ferguson and Eric Gardner's murder deserved to be convicted as well and they're roaming around free men. It sets an awful example how certain cops get prosecuted and some don't whether it's a race thing or not. ALL cops from ALL ethnic backgrounds deserve to lose their badge or worse when shit like this happens.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

The election in the Phillipines yesterday ended with a "Filipino Trump" getting elected. Currently the mayor of a city, he's made outrageous statements and ran on a platform of people being sick of the corruption in the government.

He's made rape jokes, has "joked" about having killed people, is linked to death squads, has promised to kill 100,000 criminals and throw them in to Manila Bay and has threatened to personally kill any politician found to be corrupt. He's also unleashed an economic platform that would cripple the country and leave them with only China as allies.

There was 10,000 elected positions up for grabs including Vice President. The guy who came in second in that race? Bongbong Marcos, son of Ferdinand Marcos who ruled the Phillipines as a dictator from '72-'81. Him and his family are considered some of the most corrupt people in all of the country.

http://www.wcvb.com/news/state-police-respond-to-report-of-incident-at-silver-city-galleria-in-taunton/39477598

TAUNTON, Mass. —A wild stabbing rampage in Taunton Tuesday night has left at least three people dead, including the suspect, and several others injured.

The incident started after a man, who has been identified as Arthur Darosa, 28, of Taunton, was involved in a crash on Myricks Street. Witnesses said that moments after the crash the man began to run around the neighborhood erratically, trying to break into nearby homes.

"It was chaos," neighbor Doug Kinsman said.

Darosa was able to force his way into a home, and sources told NewsCenter 5 that he then used a kitchen knife to stab a mother and daughter inside.

Neighbors said they watched in horror as the man ran back out of the home, and fled the scene in a black car he stole.

"He was definitely not in the right state of mind," Kinsman said.

Emergency crews raced to the scene, and neighbors said they saw paramedics performing CPR on the older woman as she was rushed into a waiting ambulance.

Both women were taken to a hospital where one, who was identified as an 80-year-old woman, died.

The other women, her daughter, remains in the hospital.

A short time later the suspect drove the car into the front of the Macy's department store located at the Silver City Galleria and attacked several other people.

Customers said they heard a commotion and screaming before they began to run.

Witness Reshma Noorani was in a fitting room inside Macy's when chaos erupted.

"I came out and I heard girls running and people screaming, 'There's a guy,'" she said. "We're used to guys entering the store, so we thought he must have had a gun. I ran with them. I was scared."

The unidentified suspect then ran from the Macy's to a Bertucci's restaurant a few doors down.

"All of a sudden he walked into Bertucci's and I saw him just start stabbing people," witness Emaly Higgings said. "And there was someone with a chair trying to throw it at (the suspect). There was an off-duty police officer there, and he actually shot him and kept him down."

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III said Darosa armed himself with a knife and stabbed two people inside the restaurant. Darosa also assaulted three others at the mall, Quinn said.

One of those victims who was stabbed, a 56-year-old man, died.

Higgings said the suspect appeared to be angry about something.

"He just went off," she said. "He was mad about something. We don't know what. He just started stabbing everybody. We just ran and ducked for our own safety."

Quinn said the off-duty officer shot Darosa once. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"It appears that but for the actions of the deputy sheriff, there may very well have been other victims," Quinn said.

State police said all of the crime scenes have been secured, and Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
My girlfriend works at this mall and was on when this happened. To say she's shaken up is an understatement.

Starting off on updating this thread with a story of two simple animals in love!

http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-36488432
_89925054_inflatable1.jpg

Torrelodones, a municipality just outside the capital Madrid, is 2,400 euros ($2,726; £1,885) out of pocket after the three-metre high inflatable bought as part of a campaign to encourage pet-lovers to pick up after their dogs went missing, El Pais newspaper reports. The bizarre inflatable disappeared after it had been packed away in its carry-case and the police are now on the trail of the 30 kilogramme dog poop, town officials say.

And I do love stories about terrible Helicopter parents:
https://www.arlnow.com/2016/06/09/arlington-mom-swim-instructors-man-boobs-should-be-covered-around-my-daughter/?utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link
A local mom is making waves within the Arlington Dept. of Parks and Recreation’s aquatics program.

The mother, who goes by “Lynn” but didn’t want her last name used, to protect her daughter’s privacy, says a male swim instructor is showing too much skin — specifically, his chest — in the pool. She wants the man to wear a shirt when teaching her daughter (and other children) how to swim.

This morning, after a Parks and Rec staffer told her the department wouldn’t force the instructor to wear anything in the pool other than appropriate swim trunks, Lynn emailed numerous local reporters and news outlets with her complaint.

The biggest problem, she explained, is skin-to-skin contact, which she finds intolerable.

“I sit with my daughter every week watching her… and of course the instructors are touching and holding children the entire time!” she said in an email.
I fear for this childs future.

Re: News That Doesn't Warrant a Thread 2015

http://www.kake.com/story/32447162/one-in-a-billion-shot-deputy-under-fire-shoots-bullet-into-suspects-gun?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_KAKE-TV

An off-duty Colorado sheriff's deputy under attack managed to fire his gun and made a "one in a billion" shot.

The deputy's bullet traveled up the barrel of a suspect's gun, colliding with the cartridge inside and lodging itself there.

"This collision rendered the .40 caliber pistol temporarily inoperable," according to the district attorney's investigation into the shooting.

The Jefferson County deputy, Jose Marquez, was in the parking lot of his girlfriend's condo in Aurora on Jan. 26 when two people armed with handguns and wearing masks attacked him, the investigation report said.

Marquez later said when the men approached him and he saw at least one was wearing a mask, he knew something "bad" was about to happen and told investigation he thought, "Oh s----, we're getting into a shootout."

He told investigators he thought he was going to die.

The suspects opened fire hitting Marquez twice in the abdomen and once in the shoulder. The shots fractured ribs and damaged his intestines, colon and liver, officials said.

Marquez later told investigators, even after he was shot, he said to himself, "I'm not dying today. Not today. Any other day, maybe. It's not my time yet."

Marquez managed to return fire hitting one suspect, Jahlil Meshesha, in the leg. It was Meshesha's gun that Marquez managed to fire into.

"[The deputy] immediately started screaming, 'I'm an officer! I'm off duty, someone please help,'" resident Kenneth Mitchell told Denver7 back in January. "By the third shot, he had that out and you could hear as he was screaming more and more that he was in pain."

After that, Marquez lost consciousness.

A second suspect fled and still has not been arrested or identified, officials said.

So Fox is a propaganda machine and everyone in media knew it, but hid that fact for free of causing people to lose jobs and such. Those fuckers made us have to put up with Fox's bullshit for all of our lives. Well, almost all our lives. Since it has been around since 1986, and I was born in 83, it isn't all of my life.

Apparently, there's e-mails that have been obtained that indicate that Clinton may have been to do something about a "substance person" in Lebanon, by a Nigerian-Lebanonese swindler. This guy donated $1 billion to the Global Clinton Initiative.

Just when I thought you guys couldn't do any worse for the election, you now have. Geezus.

You act like Hillary has forced Trump to shoot himself in the foot. Nothing she's done herself has moved the needle. Whoever the Democratic candidate was would coast given this complete joke of a "competitor." Don't delude yourself based off of what we now know was a manufactured narrative. Any other Republican nominee would be in a dead heat right now.

Where did I act like Hillary did anything to cause this? This post sounds like nonsense. All I said was that Republicans wouldn't run away from Trump because that's true. They have a problem with Obama being a supposed socialist after all. It would be easier for them to fully support Trump in that scenario. After all, campaigning against socialism has won them elections very recently.

Anyway, people made their choice.
