I don't think it's out yet, but I saw that they are making a circle pad pro for the XL. Why they didn't just build it into the system I don't know, but I'm glad to know whenever I do get the XL I'll then have to shell out for money for another damn circle pad that I'll barely use but feel like I need to have.

Wow I actually found a brand-new copy of Xenoblade Chronicles for a reasonable price today. Score!

They didnt wanna segregate the users of the original 3DS by adding the must have addon built into the console, it also worried them that some newer games may not be directly made with one stick in mind thus making them unplayable on the original 3DS (which some games are anyway).

I dread the size of the XL with the circle pad pro :s.

Getting quickly reminded of why, despite many MANY attempted playthroughs, I've never been able to finish Ocarina of Time. I'm at the Forest Temple now, and it's just a chore. I've killed two of the Poes, but it's becoming a chore to sit down and play for any longer than I have to. The music in the Forest Temple isn't helping matters much. It's almost nauseating if that makes any sense, with the change in tone and pitch.

Never had a problem with the forest temple, though I do know what you mean about the music. Forest Temple never stopped any of my play throughs though, it was always the water temple. Though for some reason I used to have a LOT of trouble with the forest temple boss.

WiiU will be region locked. Everyone who is surprised by this raise your hand.

Didn't think so.

So I didn't even know Nintendo has a new system coming out. And it still doesn't look very good to me.

I told myself after the Gamecube I wouldn't let Nintendo fool me again and I did with the Wii. Well not this time!

I just wish Nintendo would become a third party developer.

I'm sure Gamestop employees would be glad to no longer have to explain to people that "that Mario" doesn't exist on PS3.

Thanks for adding to the discussion, Dama!

No problem. Glad I could help.

If I hear lots of high praise from this system maybe I'll give it a shot.

Why can't Nintendo just make a damn video game system that plays awesome games? Why does everything have to have a gimmick? The motion controls on the Wii made any game a complete chore, and if they stick to that crap with this system then I don't see how it can be fun.

I find myself sitting through Skyward Sword going "This would be so much more fun if it was just a normal controller". I'm tired of this crap. I want to play Mario and Zelda but I don't want to put up with their BS gimmicks. So it'd be better if they were a third party developer.

I kind of agree with Dama here. The Wii was a gimmick with dogshit third party games (for the most part) and the only games people seemed to buy were the standards (Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong) and there's maybe less than a dozen games that really took advantage of the motion controls to make it a unique experience.

IMO, motion controlled gaming was a fad that has pretty much died out thanks to the Kinect being a shell of it's potential and the Move being an afterthought (though I hear it is completely functional when a game calls for it). The Wii U will sell ok, but a lot of those people that got sucked in 4 or 5 years ago won't be there this time.

The thing that sucks is that I want to play the new Mario game on Wii U, but there's no way in hell I'm getting the fucking system. Guess I'll just have to settle for in-store demos.

I feel the same way about any Zelda game.

I agree that the motion controls were/are a dumb gimmicky fad* (though a ton of games supported multiple controller types and configurations), but if you're trying to tell me that the Wii was a system without awesome games, I'd have to say that you're just being dumb or that you weren't paying attention as there are a ton of great titles for that console.

As far as how that question pertains to the Wii U, I'm not sure how can you suggest that this system won't play awesome games when it hasn't even launched yet. Though, judging from the launch lineup, there are some pretty solid titles that have every chance to attain this elusive "awesome game" title that you seem to be searching high and low for.

* And personally, I don't feel that you can put the tablet controller on the same level as motion controls and dismiss it as a gimmick or a fad. Nintendo has already shown for years, with the DS/3DS, that the second screen with touch capabilities isn't a fad and that it actually works with games and can be very intuitive when it's used properly.

I'm sure there were great titles on the Wii, but they are hampered by the motion controls. I find it a chore to play any game on the Wii that has them and it's kept me away from trying new games on the Wii.

As for this elusive "awesome" game. I'm referring to games like the Halo series, Mass Effect series, Elder Scrolls series, NCAA football, the Gears of Wars series, etc. that I play and love on my X-Box 360. If they were on the Wii (which i think the EA sports games are) they'd be completely impossible to play because of the damn motion controls.

Like seriously I'll pick up Skyward Sword, play it for 2 days, get irritated swinging the controller around and the character on the screen not doing what I need him to do then I'll give up for a week or two. Like I said, it's a complete chore and really drives me insane. Especially because I love Nintendo's first party titles and wish I could play them with a normal damn controller. And if the WiiU contains these same gimmicks and motion controls then that just sucks becaue again they have these great first party titles that are basically unplayable for me.

(Halo and Gears of War are Microsoft published games. So, the only place you can "play and love" those series of games would be on a 360 to begin with.)

Anyway, you're talking about two different things here. First party and third party games. First party Wii games were always going to push the motion control thing. What did you expect? That was their thing and they've always pushed it hard with their first party titles. Some did have classic controller or Gamecube controller support, though.

I'm sure there were great titles on the Wii, but they are hampered by the motion controls.

Pretty much every third party game on the Wii supports multiple controllers and configurations. So if you got an Elder Scrolls or a Mass Effect on the Wii (Mass Effect 3 is coming to Wii U, btw) it most certainly would've had controller support. And there were quite a few "awesome" third party games for that console. Just because they weren't multi-platform versions of games you already play on your 360 doesn't mean they weren't worth playing.

I didn't mean Halo and Gears of War exactly. Just giving you an idea of the games I like.

And yeah if it came down to 360 or Wii for a third party game then I'd take the 360.

You're right we are talking about two different things. I play Nintendo for the first party games. However, I played enough of them to be completely turned off. Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy and Skyward Sword completely turned me off from wanting to play any other Wii games. Smash Brothers was alright because it didn't utilize the motion controls (as far as i can remember).
Also because you were now holding the joystick in one hand it was completely unstable which is what turned me off from Mario Galaxy. It seemed impossible to walk in a straight line.

Like I said, I'll give the WiiU a chance if I hear great things about the first party games not being gimmicky and unplayable due to the gimmick.

I've only really played the Mario Galaxy games, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The motion controls were terrible in all four. I hated accidentally doing that spin attack thing and dieing in NSMBW because I accidentally flicked my wrist mid-jump. Same with DKCR and the damn roll attack.

I don't know, I think the Wii filled its niche pretty well, as there are a bunch of great games on it. Skyward Sword is really awesome and I don't understand how anyone can't get past the motion controls and consider them a problem. There are a ton of great platformers, too. Donkey Kong Country Returns might be my favourite game of this generation.

You can complain that its not the 360, but why do you need two of them?

I think the only time I played a Wii game and wished for a slightly different control scheme was when I wanted DKC Returns to have classic controller support. Not once during one of the Zelda games did I wish I could play it with a 'normal' controller (in fact, I played a bit of Twilight Princess on the Gamecube and shook the controller once trying to draw my sword). Resident Evil 4 is really good with the pointer controls, too.

There's all these enemies in Skyward Sword you have to kill with a certain sword swing and when I swing in that direction he doesn't follow. It really hampers things for me.

I always heard that complaint, but I never really had that problem. I think it came from people swinging the remote too quickly.

Though collectors everywhere feel a pang in their sides from seeing the rare sight of a Top Loader edition NES (NES-101) so brutally redone, everyone else can lean back and enjoy this beautiful reconstruction.

Reddit user Andrew5785 took his old NES, and turned it into something a little more steampunky for his nephew. Head over to the link below to see the design process, though you probably can't tell he rewired the power switch to the side.

Picked up Resident Evil Revelations at Target on sale for $19.99 today. I've only played a half hour, but I like what I've seen so far. The graphics are really incredible and the controls are very tight and responsive.

I had been playing the Ocarina of time remake, but I need a break from it. The water temple is coming up soon, and I just don't have it in me right now.

Finished New Super Mario Bros. 2 just a week after buying it. It was a lot of fun, but quite short.

New super Mario 2 was decent, but maybe 2d platforming Mario just doesn't do it for me anymore because I wasn't all that into it. I got over a million coins, but I don't think I have the pAtience to max out and get ten million.
