I got Mario Party 9 a month or two ago and enjoy it lot. I'm not understanding the somewhat critical reviews though. The main gripe with this game and the series as a whole seems to be the randomness of the dice. Isn't that the point of a board game? This type of game wouldn't be as fun if the same person won every time (and the better players still win more often than not). Also, 9 feels fresher because of the new system of the characters traveling in a cart together and working together (but against each other at the same time) on boss battles and other things. I never owned a Game Cube though, so the freshness may come from me skipping a few games in the series. I guess the only minor complaints I have is that the courses are too short, and there's not enough mini-game play while going through said courses.

Anyone else pick up Theatrhythm Final Fantasy yet? I got it last week and it's very addicting. I finally unlocked Blinded by Light last night and played the fuck out of it before I went to bed. The ultimate score for that is such a kick in the nuts. First half and it's fast and furious but I'm like 'oh I can do this no problem' and then it just gets nuts and it's fail fail fail.

This is about 4 years too late, but the rubberband A.I. in Mario Kart Wii is a bitch-and-a-half.

I haven't checked any iteration of the Virtual Console in ages since the irregular updates bother me, but using wikipedia I see Double Dragon II: THE REVENGE is available for the NES. I also see that TMNT was de-listed months ago (like, January) which I guess means the rumoured but never appearing TMNT II: The Arcade Game will now just never be appearing.

Hey they finally released Mario Land 3: Wario Land for the 3DS VC!

New Super Mario Bros. 2 - Penélope & Mónica Cruz TV ad (Nintendo 3DS)

I was in Gamestop the other day, and I noticed that New Super Mario Bros. 2 is coming out on the 3DS. Didn't even realize it and thought it was pretty quick to have a new Mario game ready to go. Unfortunately, the reviews sound a bit underwhelming. Not that the game's bad; it just doesn't do anything particularly new. I'm gonna pick a copy up on Sunday anyways.

I've got myself a 3ds XL along with Zelda/Mario land/starfox/kid Icarus coming in the post. Have I made a wise investment as I haven't updated my gameboy since the ds lite.

Kid Icarus has some "unique" controls, but overall good buys all around. RE Revelations seems halfway decent too.

One of my local Target's had NSMB2 this past Tuesday, but the register wouldn't let the employee ring it up, so they pulled them from the salesfloor. Street dates are bullshit.

Just downloaded NSMB2 and played through World 1. It's fun, but there's nothing new here. NOTHING. How disheartening for a series that used to change with every installment.

Beat the main part of NSMB2 (didn't focus on grabbing all the star coins, but did find all the secret exits). Still a lot of fun, even if the game is more of the same as the previous installments (right down to reusing the music with only slight alterations). Oh, and I loved hearing this again.

I love what they've done with that game, even if it did recycle a lot of old ideas. Kind of miss Giant Mario though.

Huh. I played a demo at Gamestop and was awarded a Giant Mushroom for doing something in World 1-2.

Just turned on my Wii and got a black screen on the TV. Hooked it up to another TV, same thing. The green light went on but when I put a disc in I heard no spinning or grinding. In fact, the system didn't make any noise at all. I blew out all the dust with a can of compressed air but that was no use. RIP BUTT's Wii 1/4/07 - 9/4/12. I guess I'll have to get a Wii U this year. But what of my hard drive of...um, backed up games? And my SD card with every Virtual Console and WiiWare game (all of which I paid for in full, of course)? And my NES and SNES emulators (to play homebrew roms)? They're all of no use now. :(

It's been over five years, so I'm sure it's not under warranty anymore, and even if it was, I violated the warranty by softmodding it.

No objection from us
There's exciting news, Ace Attorney fans. As reported by Andriasang, this week's Famitsu magazine has unveiled Ace Attorney 5 for 3DS, with Phoenix Wright returning as the main character. A mystery girl in yellow clothing has also been shown, and she'll be central to the story; details such as a release period, whether it'll appear outside of Japan as well as how the game will look and play are evidently being saved for another day.
The same edition of the magazine has a major advert for Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, with a puzzle that apparently gives an answer of "6211". Clues may suggest that the numbers are supposed to be read while flipped around, giving 1129, which is being interpreted by some as an indication of a release on 29th November in Japan.
So, who's excited for Ace Attorney 5 on 3DS?

I was excited when I read about this, but didn't go all
FXPB105070420_1024x768.jpg

until it was confirmed today that AA5 will get released 'in the west.' I assume that means US, but as long as there's an English release somewhere I'll port it and be happy. I'm also thrilled to see it'll Star Phoenix and not Apollo. I'm crossing my fingers they ret-con the events of AA4 but I won't hold my breath.

$249 on November 18th seems to be the popular belief, so I'll say $299 on November 11th. I'm more sure of the price point then the date, but I will be incredibly surprised if you're right on the date, because I can't remember Nintendo ever releasing anything on a Saturday.

I meant Sunday the 4th. Guess I should actually look at a calendar first.

I wonder about the reception it will get; Wii sales have become ice cold in both hardware and software (PS3 and 360 at least still sell software) and I really haven't heard much buzz about it at all since E3.

I was going to say the 3DS hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire, but VGChartz is saying globally, it's almost doubling the 2nd place PS3. That seems to be a weekly chart, and likely has a lot to do with New Super Mario Bros. 2 and the 3DS XL's release. And NSMB2 and Kingdom Hearts were either the top 2, or numbers 2 and 3 in US retail sales for August.

My big issue - and I'm sure I'm not the only one this is true for - is I love the VC that was a big selling point for me in 2007. I have been really let down with how quickly they went from 2 games a week to 1 game a week to 1 game a month to "random amount of games per year whenever we feel like it", but that's not even the problem. What am I supposed to do with all of my content that, the way Nintendo set up rights management for downloaded titles, that can't be transferred to the Wii U? All Nintendo had to do was embrace online gaming, let people create a personal Mii that had login information, and boom, easy transfer.

I think there's an account you can make called Club Nintendo or something. I haven't used it, but it's supposedly still a far cry from XBL or PSN accounts in terms of giving you one centralized account for all of your Nintendo content.

They've said that you can transfer VC games from Wii to Wii U, but they haven't said how. I hope that the increased power of the Wii U makes better N64 emulation possible and thus makes a large quantity of N64 games available, but Nintendo being a company which never goes the extra mile, I doubt they would put in the work to make that happen.
