Is the Wii U selling for more than retail price online right now? I just saw 2 in my Target the other day and I attributed it to the local yokels not knowing what it was. At the same time I didn't want to drop $600 and eat a loss.

I've been seeing them more and more in department stores. I think the launch was the only time to buy one and turn it really. I saw some at Meijer a month back and did a quick Ebay search. They weren't going for enough over retail to buy one, sell it, and give Ebay and Paypal their 16%

This is probably the first console launch since the Dreamcast that there were consoles readily sitting on store shelves, waiting to be bought, just weeks after launch. Not sure if it's lack of interest, or Nintendo really ramped up the production.

When I was trading for The Walking Dead this morning, I saw 5 Wii U Deluxe boxes at Future Shop. The clerk said that doesn't happen often, and they'll probably be gone by the end of the day.

Got my Platinum Playing Cards Club Nintendo reward in the mail today. Probably a little better than last year's button set, but still kinda lame.

The Mario figurine is still my favorite, but the cards were at least a lot cooler that I expected.

Around here I'd say it's lack of interest. None of my gaming fan friends have a WiiU or any desire to get one. I know I made the vow after Nintendo burned me with the GC and Wii that I wouldn't buy another Nintendo system at launch and actually wouldn't buy one until it had been out for a full 2 years and they'd actually showed me something with it. A lot of my other friends adopted the same philosophy. It's just too much money to buy a system but still spend the majority of my time wearing out the 360.

Rayman Legends demo is up. Legends was the Rayman game they showed at E3 that looked really good. Sonic racing transformed demo is also up. I'm downloading that just because there aren't many demos out yet, but I have no hopes of that one being any good.

So the sonic racing game seems ok enough, and I like that you can switch between the gamepad and tv with a quick swipe of the screen. If not playing on the gamepad it acts as a map. But, it's one of those demos you can only play a limited number of times. I wouldn't mind that in a demo with a lot of content, but when it's your typical locked down limited demo (can only play as sonic, looks to be only one course available and one other mode), limiting the demo to 15 uses is just really annoying. I mean, is there anyone alive that would say, well I WOULD buy this game at retail, but because I have access to this one track with one racer that's enough for me, if I didn't have this demo though I'd total buy the game?

On the plus side, wreck it Ralph is a racer. Can't play as him in the demo of course, but still. Also b.d. Joe from crazi taxi. Neat.

Nintendo TVii launches tomorrow. Netflix and TiVo support are delayed until next year.

It means the integration of what's on Netflix into TVii. So you only have to use one app for everything.

I tried using TVii, but they don't have my cable provider when I put in my postal code and it seems pretty useless without it.

It works p. great with mine. Not sure if I'll actually use it, but it's a sweet little app. No DVR capabilities (yet?), though.

My fiance gave me NSMBU, COD: BO2 and TTT: WE for Christmas. I don't know if it's my system or my internet connection, but every time I try to play a game, I have to sit through an absurdly long "Downloading Update Data" screen. I can go ahead and start the game (I assume whatever the system is doing will download in the background), but it's more than a little annoying to have to do this with every game I put in the system.

For an example, the Time Remaining is set at 40 seconds at the moment and I've been watching this bar creep across the screen for about 10 minutes.

Slammed by Christmas isn't the word. It took over two hours to download an update with an original time estimate of 45 seconds!

I wonder how many people will return it once they find out you need to download an update to play Wii games. I lost count of how many people asked me if Wii U games worked on Wii.

As far as I could tell, the Wii U also essentially has to (slowly) reboot into Wii mode, which is kind of silly.

Nintendo put out a Tweet suggesting Wii U gifters should open and update the consoles so they'd be ready to go on Christmas Day. I'm guessing that was a combo of "Yeah, we know the update is fucked/ridiculous, but can't fix it yet", and "Oh shit, our servers are gonna get wrecked again".

Except that a 1GB fw update isn't ridiculous at all.
I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or not, but there's several reasons why it's ridiculous. Less so than the mis-reported 5GB update, but still.

Not sarcasm. As far as I know both of the the other consoles also have out of the box, mandatory, firmware updates as well.
