Literally right after I posted that I checked the shipping status again and it said delivered. Ha. So I went outside and grabbed it (haven't opened the shipping box yet nd my cat is already all over the box wanting to get inside). Time to hook this sucker up, but I think ill wait to get it online until bed time so I can update overnight.

Saw an Old Navy commercial that said they had free copies of Mario U for anyone who spent over forty bucks

I believe that's on black Friday. And quantities are supposed to be fairly limited. I thought about trying to get Mario that way since my wife shops at old navy but best buy had it in stock and I'd rather stay home on Friday.

Got the update downloaded and instAlled in like 80 minutes. I'm guessing launch day rush slowed the servers down yesterday.

So if you move VC stuff off the Wii to the Wii U, you can't use it on the original Wii anymore? That kind of makes the old system a brick (though I guess I could play Cube games on it) as originally it was going to go to the non-HDTV I have in the computer room.

I pretty much assumed virtual console stuff was gone from the wii once you transferred, much like transferring purchases from the dsi to 3ds. But my question for those who have done it is can you copy your wii saves back to the wii and still use those on the wii, or are those completely gone as well? Because that mig be enough to get me to keep everything on the wii.

Yep - everything that is on your internal Wii memory when you do the transfer is gone. The only stuff that doesn't get touched would be any files you had on an other SD card altogether. I opted to transfer the whole thing as I'll probably only use the old Wii as a GameCube emulator from now on anyway.

I copied all the non-protected Wii game saves to my SD card, so I'll see if I can still use those, but I said fuck it and went ahead with the transfer (watching the Pikmin move everything is pretty cool. OH NO DON'T LEAVE PURPLE DUDE BEHIND!) I figure maybe now I'll add the homebrew channel to my Wii so I can get the cheat program and any games I had a lot of progress in I can just cheat back!

That's a good idea, RE: homebrew. I think I'll try that out too.

I really like the Miiverse app. It's kinda cool how a good chunk of the comments are actually just illustrations.. and damn there are some good artists using this console. Seeing all of the various Mii's crowded around different game icons is neat too. I just wish they'd let us have more freedom when customizing these Mii's. Like with the 360 Avatars.. it would be pretty sweet to not have brown pants all the time.

I have to say I'm really loving the tablet controller. I thought it would take more time for me to get used to it, but I'm just gelling with this thing right away. I seriously cannot wait for Monster Hunter to come out on this thing.. and hopefully the Dragon Quest MMO.

So in order to use a portable USB hard drive as your storage, you need a Y cable, otherwise it has to be a powered external drive with it's own AC adapter.

I found a $4 Micro B to USB Y cable on ebay with free shipping.

Micro B is what Seagate uses for their GoFlex drives (of which I have a spare 500GB one that isn't being used right now, so to the Wii U it goes). Definitely worth it if means I don't have to use another power outlet!

Wii games look a little clearer now, which was what I was hoping for.

I wish you didn't have to go into the Wii menu to play them, though, but that's just nitpicking.

I was at best buy last night and they had Wii U's on sale (both white & black) but I held off picking one up. I'll probably get one in the new year when I actually will have more time to enjoy it and there's a larger games catalogue. I also have so much I'd like to even start on the Wii/PS3 (shit, even DS) that I didn't want to add another to the pile.
I'm also wondering what will happen if I try to transfer my Wii content over to a Wii U. I have a PAL Wii, all the games I bought for it are PAL, but if I get a US Wii U, will it recognise them/ transfer them.

I don't know the breakdown, but while a potion of my VC games were downloaded to the Wii, once the option to directly download to a SD card came along I started doing that. Not sure what that means for anything, if it means anything at all.

I don't even know where to find a friend code...does the WiiU use friend codes? I don't even know that!

Edit: (looks in the online ID thread) OOOOOOOhhh it's that Nintendo Network thing, ok. Added to the thread.

So anyway, NintendoLand. I think I've played everything but the octopus game so far. Most every thing is at least decent (I assume other people like the Ninja game, I just don't like the mechanic of throwing the star), and the Zelda and Metroid games are awesome, and they're both single and multiplayer. Metroid I haven't had much of a problem so far just playing by myself, but Zelda is much easier with two people. Especially since I like to play as the archer and that's tough alone.

I get the feeling it's going to take forever to unlock all the themepark accessories (and fuck that coin drop game you play to unlock them), but I'll probably do it because I want to unlock all the music for the jukebox.

Managed to find a 32GB WiiU at Target this afternoon. I promptly returned my unopened 8GB system to Gamestop.

I can't send you a friend request, Smues. The option is grayed-out. Did you do the initial set up for your friend list (hit the Home button, then the smiley face)?

Amazon instant, Hulu plus, and YouTube are now live. Hooray not having useless buttons on the home screen anymore.

YouTube costs money in Canada?

But oh man the YouTube app sucks. For one it doesn't appear to support ads, which means a gazillion videos aren't watchable. For two things navigation sucks, three it does Appear to support your favorites list, and four while it loads your list of channels you follow, it seems to be broken as it can't find any videos at all under those chAnnels. I hope they improve this later because right now it's useless to me.

Apparently everyone in the world but me is a great artist. I'm just sitting here watch shit pop up in the plaza and man there are a lot of good drawings. My favorite so far was one done in the style of the punch out bike scene, and it has Laikoto or whatever his name is chasing Mario who is riding his cloud and it says brother stole my cloud.

Nintendo Land might be the most fun I've had playing a game all year. The Zelda stages are great. I really like the Little Big Planet design to everything.
