Randomized first round byes are very, erm, random but I totally get it cause if Top 16 wrestlers then you'd potentially have a very lackluster and unappealing first round.

50th Anniversary show was fun nostalgia.

Night 1 of the NJ Cup was good aside from the Yujiro match which well yeah. Even the Honma match was way better than expected.

Bullet Club is the fucking worst. Everyone turned on GoD (and Jado!) tonight to zero reaction. It was painful to watch. I'm glad GoD is out of that shitfest but it is so long past time to kill that unit.

In more positive news MiSu Vs Hiromu was fun and the next round has a bunch of cool matches:

NJ Cup 3rd Round:
Okada Vs Taichi
Hirooki Goto Vs CIMA (Give us CIMA Vs Okada!)

Tanahashi Vs Naito
Jeff Cobb Vs Yoshihashi

OKhan Vs Sabre
SANADA Vs Ospreay

SHINGO Vs Chase Owens
EVIL Vs Hiromu (Hiromu got the best match EVIL has had since his turn out of him can he pull the miracle off again?)

I haven't watched a ton of NJ recently, just not a lot of time, but I did watch yesterday's show, mainly because I wanted to see the Suzuki vs Hiromu match, and it didn't disappoint. It reminded me a bit of the Ibushi vs TAICHI match from the G1 where they did the entire match with kicks, but this time it was mainly chops. I loved it.

The BC stuff was painful to watch, but it had to be done since GOD were kicked out by Jay on Impact. The most interesting people to me left in BC are Jay, ELP, and Ishimori. The HOT stuff is just total shit, and I still think they should have put SHO with Suzuki-gun instead of this trash. I am interested to see what happens with GOD, if they try to make their own faction, or try to join another. Otherwise, I just don't care about BC much anymore. Also, there are like 45 people in BC now, even with kicking out GOD. That's just insane.

For someone who is as naturally unlikeable as Will Ospreay is, he sure isn't a very good heel. Having him beat SANADA with a barrage of (incredibly weak) elbow strikes was hilarious. SANADA sold it like death (even getting carried out on someone's back still faking that he was out) but man the whole thing was lame. Ospreay pretended to be suffering a seizure to mock him and just looked like a fucking goof.

Please pay Jay White whatever it takes to come back over. Or Cesaro. Or push Sabre over him like you should have all along.

In other news; Tama Tonga atoned for one of the Bullet Club's original sins by making up with Taguchi. Hopefully, a sign that this angle is a sign that BC is winding down and not just a continuation of their never ending civil war.

I'd laugh and laugh though if it ended up that Wato and Taguchi are just going to be in GoD's weird mutation of Bullet Club.

Some people on NJPW Twitter are optimistic that yesterday's result was a sign that COVID era booking is ending and this is the end of EVIL being a top heel. That's an exceedingly optimistic outlook but I WANT TO BELIEVE!

I wouldn't go that far at all either. Until Japan is open again he's still going to be pushed high. We also don't really know how the fans in Japan feel about HoT. Are they as apathetic towards them as western fans or is it purely the fact they aren't allowed to make noise? It seems like they aren't over but who knows.

Forgot the show was tonight, shit. I;ll watch it sometime this morning. Really sad CIMA didn't get the upset but not surprised. Hiromu should definitely get the upset win in the finals before losing the title shot to Okada. He could dine out on that for the rest of his career since not even Liger ever won a Heavy tourny. Just don't insist on promoting him to full-time heavy. He really isn't built for it and he's special where he is.

Shingo Takagi Vs ZSJ is the 2nd semi-final, along with Okada-Naito that's happening this weekend.

At least Ospreay isn't going to win, CWM.

It would have been great if Hiromu won but Shingo is fantastic so it's still great. Ospreay losing is even better, if he'd won after injuring Sanada I'd have been angry for sure. There are no bad winners among the final four. Giving Sabre the big win to finally establish him as the top foreign stat would be interesting. Especially if they broke him away from Suzuki-gun ever.

Cautiously optimistic about NJPW's direction after the Cup. Things feel like they are moving in a positive direction and are a lot more fun. Crowds are getting bigger again as well. Just bringing in Stronghearts (and Fujinami!) has added a lot of life to the shows.
