There's a big list of titles on sale today, to go with the whole longest day of the year thing.

http://www.gog.com

Some ones I noticed as particularly good deals:

FTL: Faster Than Light is 75% off, to $2.49. You can buy direct from the developer, and get both a DRM-free, and Steam copy.
http://www.ftlgame.com/

Hotline Miami is down to $3.33.

...Yeah, I don't know. It's a big list.

Oh my god they brought it back? WHY GOD WHY?

Seriously, I know this question because I was a big Sierra nut, but I highly doubt that's common knowledge. At least teh kids these days (and adults who don't know who the fuck Roberta Williams is) can use Google. Or Bing if they're Peter Parker.

I feel like it should be common enough knowledge among the people who actually have an interest in playing a remake of the first Leisure Suit Larry.

Interesting.. Xbox One, PS4 launch prices compared to inflation-adjusted launches of old:

Man, some of that price inflation is crazy. PlayStation would actually cost more than PS4? Geezus.

Consider too for Canadians, we now get the same launch price as the US. That was not the case when a Sega Saturn cost $600 (edit: well, that's what I remembered, and definitely after our at the time 15% tax in Ontario, but Consumer's listed it as $527).

I've posted this before, long ago, but an idea of 1995 game prices in Canada:

Jeff and Vinny at Giant Bomb play a terrible Trials clone. I injured myself laughing at this. Skip to about 20 minutes for the start of the co-op section, if you don't want to watch the whole thing.

The 16-Bit through N64 eras were awful. Thank God for that sinking US Dollar, eh?

Its funny. As a kid, I could totally accept paying absurd prices for games.

Now? If a game is anywhere near $100, I better be getting perks with it.

I had almost completely forgotten that a lot the games themselves were close to (and sometimes over, with tax) $100CAD. Insanity.

I believe I paid 100-110 for the original Tactics Ogre, Suikoden II and one other fantasy game I can't think of. Still boggles me that I could do that then. I mean, I don't even buy special editions because I can rarely justify it. Unless it has some awesome bonus stuff.

Apparently Ubisoft was hacked, and user info was stolen. And I'm reminded why I don't like signing up for unnecessary extra services with my games. Or more accurately, why I don't buy games that require that shit.

Well a copy of a game on a cd is much cheaper to produce than a cartridge.

Yeah that shocked the shit out of me when I saw it today. I wonder what it means for the future of Giant Bomb. With Ryan dead, Patrick back in Chicago, Vinny not having anywhere near as much time as he used to due to his kid and Brad unable to play anything other than DOTA, is it time to close up shop? I fuckin hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the site down or a shell of it's self within a year. Ryan just WAS Giant Bomb to me, more than any other person.

I can't claim I followed Ryan super closely. I was a part of the GameSpot community for several years (and various offshoots now), and I've been a fan of the Giant Bomb crew on and off (more on recently) since they started. He was an integral part of the team, and he clearly meant a lot to a lot of people.

The news has still hit me, though. Obviously I don't know details of his health and his death. But being a similarly obese dude with some health issues of my own, and only 3 years younger than him... It's a striking moment.

Obviously I feel bad for anyone in his personal and professional life (and some combination of the two). He and Jeff have been close friends a long time. But I feel especially bad for his wife. "Newlywed widow" is one of the sadder word combinations I could think of.

I remember Doom on SNES being like $109.99 or something crazy like that. Then add on 15% sales tax. No wonder why I only had 4 or 5 SNES games.

The Ryan tribute Bombcast is fucking great; just everyone shooting the shit about him and dumb GameSpot stories.

Capcom hit by layoffs, senior VP Christian Svensson out: http://www.polygon.com/2013/7/11/4514896/capcom-hit-by-lay-offs-senior-vp-christian-svensson-out

Capcom has undertaken a staff reorganization today, resulting in the loss of its senior vice president Christian Svensson.

Svensson posted the news on his Facebook page today, saying that he had volunteered to go as part of the planned re-org. He did not say who else had been affected, but wrote that "sadly, I'm not the only one affected by the reorganization today. Over the next few days, I'll be gathering resumes from as many as I can and will be sending them out to my contacts around the industry to see if there's a 'love connection' to be made."

There's a Deus Ex game for iOS that doesn't work if your phone is jailbroken. Well it works, but you can't shoot your gun and you get a message no shooting on jail broken devices. They don't tell you this before you spend $6.99 on the game. Jesus Christ am I glad I switched to Android, that's just bullshit.
