I haven't read anything on Brutal Legend and I only know that it's made by Lucas Arts, so I'm just asking.

Nah, I getcha, it's not like a "scumm" game or anything. It's basically 3D beat-em-up/GTA-ish. Kill skeletons with your guitar and drive cars while screaming one liners with Jack Blacks voice. ;D

This is an acceptable reaction! ;) There is obviously something fishy about the game as it has bounced from publisher to publisher. Although it is being produced and directed by Tim Schafer who was as big a force behind those scumm games, and their derivatives, as Ron Gilbert or Dave Grossman were. I think that Schafer, though, tries to grow with the genre and technology while Gilbert is more famous for being a grumpy gamer and casting about (futilely) for funding to make more standard adventure games. Cautious or disinterested optimism is probably the best course of action here.

I mean the concept sounds good but as soon as I heard what kind of a game it was I was really wondering if it would have been a point or click game or not. I was really hoping it was.

So I guess I'm buying a Super Nintendo a buddy is getting rid of. I know nothing about systems or hooking it up to anything. Would I be able to hook it up to my monitor so I can play on that or does it need a TV, do I need any other cables to do that, etc?

A super Nintendo can take both a RF cable or an A/V cable. So it's totally up to you. Actually if you have a N64 or a Gamecube, they all use the same A/V cable.

The other day, I went to this place called Game-On that sells all types of games (there's a bunch of movies there as well). Some guy in his 20s basically runs the shop by himself and has games, systems, and accessories dating all the way back to Atari. Picked up Banjo-Tooie, and Conker's Bad Fur Day for my N64. I was hoping for WWF No Mercy too, but no dice.

If you're looking for used copies of No Mercy, check the serial number on the back. If it ends in EUR-1 then the game doesn't have that bug that erases everything periodically.

That bug was why I never bought the game back in the day and stuck with WM2000. I rented it and liked it, but I just wasn't prepared to risk the whole game resetting for no reason.

I risked it and had it reset all the damn time.

Still worth it.

If you can get an N64 to USB adapter, there's plenty of ROMs of it out there, including roster updates, and it eliminates the four-player slowdown as well.

Anyone know where I can get one of those USB adapters?

I also never heard of this bug. There was a time my friend blew his hot ass breath into my Wrestlemania 2000 game, thinking that would fix something, and everything ended up being erased. Which pist off about 6 other people who created wrestlers and worked pretty hard to unlock everything and everyone. Was that bug also in Wrestlemania 2000?

I never had any problems with WM2000, or heard of any wide spread ones. It was well known that No Mercy liked to completely reset at random.

I must have lucked out. I had a copy of No Mercy with blood that never once reset. I played the holy hell out of it as well.

The two I've played (and therefore know they exist somewhere, potentially on my PC somewhere) are the TNA v RoH mod:
TNA vs ROH Video Game Trailer
and the ECW mod:
Ecw wrestling-WWF No Mercy style

Special, special thanks to fireproclub.com, the only site that had any links at all.

First, TNA v ROH, the mod I was able to find in .zip form on my PC:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TFS201Q1

ECW Barely Legal mod:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VK5FF6LX

FAQ for installing the things, because they tend to be a dick about installing properly:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EWOTKO1P

Youtube cashes in for me, 2009 roster update that apparently doesn't have an extension on the end of the file. It's supposed to be a .rar file.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OB08VNSH

Winner winner chicken dinner, I'm on fire. Another update from 3 weeks ago (scroll down, look for "File URL" text box, and just beneath it a "Click here" download link):

I wonder if they ever figured out how to crack the sound files to read things from outside the ROM itself.

Speaking of the ROM itself, you'll need it for the mods and none of them supply it for "The mod is legal, the ROM is not" reasons. Should be findable on the internet easy enough.

Just thought, would it have to be an N64 pad? Or could you connect a 360 controller/GC controller?

If not, ebay seem to have quite a few USB adaptors which will be about 10 quid.

I've got some shitty ass PS2 knockoff USB controller from Hong Kong and it works, but that's all I've tried.

I've got C-Left & C-Right mapped to L2 & R2, and C-Up/C-Down mapped to triangle/square, so it's a little awkward...plus I haven't played in a while so I don't remember all the controls which is sort of a blessing because I'm not reaching for BUTTons that aren't on my controller.

Oh, and the last link I supplied for sure has the No Mercy ROM in it, in the "roms" folder. I haven't looked in the other ones to see, but the ROM is good with all the mods, you just have to make sure you're using the right graphical plugin and it'll be fine. Just made Tyson Kidd submit to Owen Hart's sharpshooter. Woo!

You can use a 360 controller with an N64 emulator.

What was up with the G.I. Joe tie-in? That was sorta weird that it seems like Guile was a G.I. Joe but made to sound like a complete smuck "What's a Dhalsim? Oh.".

I don't know who else is familiar with it, but I've basically spent the last day getting my ass kicked in Touhou for the first time after downloading Touhou 12. I've never been good with shooters, much less bullet hell, and haven't even played one in years due to the frustration they give me, so I only knew that and never how addicting they could be. Touhou also has its bad art and abominable fanbase, but it's actually fun once you forget those things. That said I guess my next stop is Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and the 12.3 expansion.
