It took me awhile to track down a copy, but I recently finally got a copy of the Suikoden DS game. What I was expecting was something similar to Suikoden I in play style, and just with a different cast of characters and location. Apparently my assumptions were way off. You don't have runes you have the mark of the stars, you have MP!, something unheard of in Suikoden land, and different weapons to buy instead of just upgrading your old ones. I'm only like two hours into it and so far I'm enjoying it. The story already is a bit bizarre and I'm guessing it'll only get crazier, but I like it!
But really my main reason for mentioning this is the voice acting. Not because it's bad, which is it, but because of the main reason it is bad: it's FAST! It's as if they wanted to make a talky RPG for the DS but were limited by the cartridge space limitations, so they told all of the voice actors to rush through their lines to save space. It's really bizarre as 70-80% of the dialog so far is delivered at rush speeds, even though there's no reason the characters would be talking so fast. You almost need the text on the screen to help you parse what they hell they just said. It's quite hilarious. When the characters are talking at normal speeds, the text will finish displaying before the spoken words are done. When they're in hypertalkreallyfastmode (most of the time) the on screen text isn't finished before they are. It's really odd.
