Facebook allows war posts urging violence against Russian invaders

Meta Platforms will allow Facebook and Instagram users in some countries to call for violence against Russians and Russian soldiers in the context of the Ukraine invasion, according to internal emails seen by Reuters on Thursday, in a temporary change to its hate speech policy.

it is way more complicated than that headline. It's relevant to the areas he is invading not the entire world and is about political expression. "As a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine we have temporarily made allowances for forms of political expression that would normally violate our rules like violent speech such as 'death to the Russian invaders.' We still won't allow credible calls for violence against Russian civilians," a Meta spokesperson said in a statement.

They can call for Putin's death but if it seems credible they get in trouble. It's nothing.
 
They can say whatever they want, but if they tried to move all the way through Ukraine they would have literally no army left. This isn't 1900 where when you run out of soldiers you can find a couple million dummies to go shoot people. They brought almost all their equipment to Ukraine.
 
Actually, they were. The problem is that the resolution wasn't just about condemning white supremacy, but about restricting the freedom of speech, and the US opted not to vote in its favor because it would be voting in favor of something that goes against its own laws.

Again...it's still so GD weird to me how closely aligned on the Russia/Ukraine War the hard right and hard left are. I've seen posts that are exactly like this from some of my anarchist/communist/socialist friends.

Maybe extremists have always been this way and I'm just now noticing it but dang.

None of my weakling leftist friends could punch the crap out of a tree though, at least.
 
It's stupid but a lot of people are acting like this is some relatively new feature of society (starting with Freedom Fry's perhaps) which isn't true. It's sadly been a feature of human behavior going back ages. There's all kinds of stories of this behavior in old records. We love an Other.
