I had no desire in the original reboot because it felt like it was designed as Roseanne Barr's comeback, since most of the other cast were working and had other ventures. Now that I don't have to see that repugnant scum, I probably will watch this now.

I know giving the Roseanne character a traditional death would probably lead to some great John Goodman acting scenes, but I'd rather they bury her and give her a humiliating end.

I hope a piano falls on her head and when she opens her (dying) mouth her teeth have been replaced with piano keys

Here's the problem with this. IMO Roseanne drove that show. As horrible as a human as she is part of what made it entertaining was her, at least for me.

I think this is going to be awful and ratings will be bad because Trump's base will boycott the show.

I'm already getting ready for the tweets: "Falling ratings ABC attempted to do Roseanne without Roseanne and it BOMBED! The people won't stand for treatment of such a great American. The Apprentice did much better ratings than this liberal show. SAD."

I've always watched for Metcalf, Goodman, and Gilbert tbh. Roseanne had some funny moments in the early seasons, but wasn't a very good actress and got so obnoxious by the fifth or sixth season.

I echo that. Roseanne Barr was never the draw for me and I watched the entire original run religiously. It's sad that all these years later and Barr still hadn't taken the time to, you know, learn acting.

Also, I don't think that Trump supporters will boycott it.. they're gonna hate watch it, guaranteed, so that they have one more thing to bitch about on Twitter.

I thought the premiere of the Conners was alright. The absence of Roseanne was noticeable obviously but I think this can turn into its own little thing. Goodman was the best part despite looking so frail these days.

I read an interview with Goodman saying it was all portion control, which is amazing for him after being so big for so many years. He actually looks like an older Jason Segel now. Maybe they can do a comedy version of Looper together. ;)

It was pretty solid and you can absolutely see how the show can function and possibly even thrive in the absence of Roseanne. Giving Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman more opportunities to do what they do best is never a negative. The ratings weren’t as huge as last year’s revival but still did very well.

I appreciated that they didn’t try to ruin who Roseanne Conner was by using it as a vehicle to besmirch Roseanne Barr, they used her death in a manner that befitted the original feel of the show.

I don't think that Roseanne was a weak link last season but I thought the Connors was very well done. It felt like an epilogue for the original show though and it will be interesting to see if the show will continue to be good (especially since it seems like they are making Darlene the main character and she is the blandest one)

Anyone still watching this? I'm not finding much fun in it anymore. Goodman's Dan Connor charm is sort of lost when he has to constantly play up his age, bankruptcy, etc. It's like the show runner read that Roseanne was renowned for its real world issues, and so they really hammer home depressing stories without the strong humor/snark that Roseanne and Dan were able to use to move along in life.

I do enjoy the actor playing Darlene's fiancé/bf whatever, but grew frustrated with his recent story of quitting retail (as his woman's family is crippled in debt) to try and somehow start a podcast. That seemed to go away fast as now the writers decided he was going to inherit a hardware store so he and Dan can conflict over Alpha male stuff.

I'm still watching and still find most of the characters charming. I like Darlene's work promotion and how she handles the responsibility that goes with it.

Patton Oswalt(d?) and Jason Alexander both guest starring! I like when TV leans into my horribly out of date knowledge of celebrities.

Is Topher Grace's sitcom any good?

The Connors is still hit and miss for me. Some of the jokes/writing really make me groan. I still enjoy the overall show, although I had to get used to Dan being a bit player to the Darlene show.

Has any character in tv history ever upgraded as much as Dan Connor did?
Jay Pritchett from Modern Family went from Shelly Duvall Long to Sofia Vergara. I would say that Roseanne is a lot further down on one end of the spectrum than Shelly Duvall Long, but Sofia Vergara is also a lot further up, on the other end of the spectrum, than Katey Sagal. So, it's kind of a toss-up.

Another one, although this one is, admittedly, a lot more YMMV than my previous submission, but Don Keefer on The Newsroom went from Allison Pill to Olivia Munn. Although, this one probably says more about what I think of Allison Pill...

Shelley Long was on Modern Family not Shelly Duvall, sir! Definitely still an upgrade to Sofia but not as much IMO. Diane Chambers could get it back in the day.

It appears ratings are dropping by the millions each year, so I guess they are stunt booking so to speak.

I feel this season's writing has been better than last year, although I don't buy the Lunch Box being turned into a sports bar idea at all. I felt the Lunch Box was a diner around the basic industrial center of Lanford, where the blue collar slobs could come grab a reasonably priced meal on lunch (hence the name). A sports bar doesn't really work in that tiny space due to TV sight optics, hours of operation vs customer base and the idea that a 60 something year old woman is the hostess instead of a bevy of young women who are seeking Thirsty males tips. Jackie would be getting ready for bed during the peak hours of operation.

I was surprised to see Becky got a best actress nod a few years ago. I find her to be hamming it up, not quite pulling off the struggle between addict and comedy.

This week's Connors opened with the actress who plays Becky giving a trigger warning that the episode is about gun violence. A shooter is on the loose in Lanford and the family finds out it's someone in their neighborhood whom they know. We also find out Dan owns a gun and Darlene's daughter winds up selling it.

A surprisingly dark episode.
