I'm not 100% sure, but I think you'll want to swap the hard drive before you start using the system. You could set things up on the default 500GB drive, but I get the sense you'll just have to do it all over again on your new drive.

I think this is the page, and firmware download to use for new HDD/SSDs:
http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps4/pc_update/index.htm

The Games Radar video showed the physical install; this GameSpot video gets into the software part of it:

Yeah pretty much, don't want to have to do the update twice, really.. Just doing a straight swap before I even turn it on.

EDIT: slightly o/t, but the video quality on the Gamespot video is SO clear my eyes are bleeding. They must have a hell of a video setup.

Reviews for the console so far are mostly what I expected: impressive hardware, excellent controller, and hardly any games worth playing yet. I think I may take this opportunity to finally buy a PS3 on the cheap and play through all of this last generation's exclusives for $15-20 each. I've still got the new Dragon Age game next fall as my marker for when I'll need to upgrade.

I'll pick one up in a year or so when there is actually a library of games to check out. Or I might just wait for the first price drop.

I had a bit of a notion to pick up a DualShock 4 for limited PC and PS3 use. But seeing 7-8 hours for battery life, and not (easily?) user-replaceable battery kinda soured that idea. (And I don't really want to pay $60 for it when I don't need it.)

It'll probably be a while before I get one of the new consoles. I imagine it'd be a PS4 first. Sony's given me less reasons to not buy from them than others--not exactly a full-hearted endorsement.

Is Polygon the only place reporting that 7-8 hours thing? I'm grain of salting it until it comes from a source that isn't full of shit 99% of the time.

That being said, if it is accurate, it's probably longer for PC use since you wouldn't be using any of the controller audio functions. PS3 wouldn't matter as it has to stay wired to the console, I believe.

I guess it was Polygon where I saw that, yeah. Engadget doesn't have a precise figure; they say it "doesn't seem great".

For PC games, I've got 360 controllers, which are plenty good and widely-supported, and I've got the wireless receiver, and I can use Eneloops. On PS3, the game I'm most likely to play for now is GTA V, which does not work with a DS4.

Ah man! The PS4 version of Metal Gear Solid 5 will have an exclusive "Deja Vu" sidemission, utilizing the PS1 graphics of MGS. My brain hurts so bad right now!

Sony is becoming master trolls regarding The Last Guardian. This was actually kind of funny.

So, EA is saying the day-one PS4 update is breaking their games.

I played Knack at Best Buy this afternoon. I think it's a neat idea for a game, but I wasn't blown away by it. The Dual Shock 4 feels really good to use. I never had any issues with the previous DS's but the new one is quite nice. I played Octopus Dad or whatever it's called for a little bit, and I know it wasn't a finished game by any means, but I wasn't impressed at all.

Man, this thing sounds like it is going to run out of memory really quick with all the sizes of shit. Not to mention, if you have data caps, these things are death to your caps. 2.3 gbs? Holy crap!

I'm really impressed with the streaming quality. I tried a few rounds of COD earlier and had my laptop set up to watch.. very nice. Hopefully they add archiving soon.. a lot of what I want to do hinges on being able to watch past broadcasts over again. =\

the main reason I gave up console gaming since I'm on a 5gb cap per month..its prett sad the ps4 doesn't even work day 1 out of the box without a huge update, and then you have to update the games to work day one too.

I really don't care about the reviews of Killzone's story (that's subjective) ..the game itself is gorgeous. I feel like I'm finally playing a high-end PC game on a console.. insanity! Touchpad mechanics are also really easy to use and intuitive for the OWL drone.

Maybe you can find a better data limit at your salvage store.

I'd like to think that the cap isn't actually for his whole town...just for him. Someone in position to do so decided they didn't want him having too much access to modern technology.

5gb cap sounds like either Hughesnet or ATT.
Mine is 250 a month which hasn't been anything (still MAJORLY fucks with you when you get it) but I have been avoiding HD and game downloads.

I get by on 150gb a month, but I am upgrading to 300gb in December (for less $) due to switching providers.
