Just beat God of War and barely started God of War 2.......first one was loads of fun, and I already appreciate how the sequel has gotten sharper and even more insane as far as move-set and damage goes.

Hopefully I have the time to get through GoW2 before Heavy Rain comes out, that way with a dose of Heavy Rain & MW2, I will have a nice rest from GoW before Part 3 comes out so I won't be too burnt out on the series. GoW3 demo looks sick.

Hey where did you get the portable PS3 gamertag thing in some of your guy's sigs? Did you have someone make it, or does PS3's site automake it for you? Link...?

Or pretend to be European & steal a decent rectangular one instead of the block thing.

I just bought Valkyria Chronicles at Gamestop for $20. I've played only a couple hours, maybe even a little less, and I'm hooked. I'd never played a strategy RPG before, but I like what I'm seeing. The gameplay is addicting and the cel shaded graphics evoke the style of a watercolor painting.

Was it out on the shelf or did you have to ask for it? I've gone in there a couple times to look for it but never found it.

I got Valkyria from GameStop recently too. When I went, I checked the store locator on the website but when I got to the store, there was nothing on the shelf. I asked the guy at the counter. He looked in the cabinet and there were a couple fully sealed copies. Hopefully you'll have similar luck. I haven't gotten to play it yet but I've heard a lot of the same of what Matt is saying, it's so supposed to be really great and a steal at the $20 price point.

Valkyria Chronicles is a game that feels like it was made my master craftsmen at the height of their skill. It is absolutely tremendous.

I got all the DLC for the game when it was 60% off, too. There's actually one more DLC pack coming in the future for the game.

VC is decent, I enjoyed it! Currently playing MAG, which is great and amazing considering its free to play and its a huge war online.

I played the demo for MAG and was not impressed in the least. It wasn't bad, but the entire time I was playing it I couldn't help but want to play a better FPS like COD or Battlefield Bad Company.

It's really easy once you get it going. The most annoying part is that it resets a few times so you can't just put it in, turn it on, get it going and leave, you have to be there to tell it what to do.

Oh and you need the 3.15 update on a USB drive to get it to go, because for some stupid reason it doesn't have any way of downloading it itself.

Well, so far so good. I am restoring the backup to the new HDD right now (2hrs for 70 gigs). On the plus side I didn't need the system update on a USB drive as it seems to be stored to the on-board memory along with my usernames and login credentials. :D

Okay, so everyone in the Madden thread says that PSN is awful when I told them I was going to switch from paying $50/year on Live to PSN and that you "get what you pay for." Anyone care to elaborate or dispute that point?

I can't speak for Madden, but I've never had an issue with PSN connectivity and whatnot. The only time I can remember getting lag online is in WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009. That said, you might not be getting it for free much longer. Apparently charging for the service has been on their mind for a bit...

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/sony-actively-thinking-about-charging-for-psn-not-offering-mo/

Sony 'actively thinking about' charging for PSN, not offering more Blu-ray game downloads

In an extensive interview with IGN, Sony senior VP of Marketing Peter Dille notes that it's been the company's philosophy not to charge for PSN, but calls the possibility "something that [Sony's] actively thinking about." The company has no announcement to offer while it tries to figure out "the best way to approach" any potential changes.

So far so bad.. I got so close to 100% and it said it failed. I looked up the error and apparently it has something to do with certain installed games? MGS4 was a trouble maker for others so I'm going to uninstall it and try again.

Question - does this backup/restore take care of copy protected savegames, ie: SFIV, Resident Evil 5, Dragon Age, etc?

I tried it twice last night and got the error both times. 800283F0 - tons of obscure solutions on the net ranging from deleting your MGS4 game data to unregistering your PSP.. none of which worked for me. I should note that after restarting post-fail message, the backup does exist on the new drive, it just doesn't have ANY copy-protected saves - everything from SF4, SSF2 Turbo HD Remix, Puzzle Fighter, Mega Man 9, Resident Evil and Dragon Age are not there. Fucking frustrating - the bulk of those saves I don't care about - but I don't want to start Dragon Age over again as I've already put 50+ hours into this character. Maybe I'll just hold off on this upgrade until Awakening comes out and roll a new character for that anyway.

Having, sort of, made the switch over the last few months, it does take a little adjusting to get used to PSN. When you receive messages from friends you might not notice them until WAY after they were relevent, as there's no 'in game' pop up to inform you you've received one. This is the same for invites to games, not used within the game itself.

You can only voice chat with someone in the same game as you, or on the PSN dash, there are no floating partys like on XBL. This takes A LOT of getting used to, well it did for me anyway, as I was using XBL as a free socialising tool with my friends (even though they live around the corner), it was like a 'free' phone call.

I'd recommend getting the Official Sony Headset, other brands are pretty poor and offer very static, echo, distant voicechat quality.

I don't care about the messaging with friends option or anything like that, really. I don't ever communicate with anyone on my Xbox Live "Friends" List and I dislike voice chat even in-game, although two of my best friends from LA only have PS3s so if I were to communicate with friends online, that'd be my only option anyways. And I usually have the "Show Notifications" thing turned off as well, checking my messages when I feel like it instead.

Keeping that in mind, does that make PSN better, worse, or about the same for me?

Hm, that doesn't sound right. I get notifications of messages all the time in-game, in the upper right hand corner of the screen. I think maybe you have the setting turned off?

Sounds like you'd be $50 better off!

Hmm maybe I did turn it off... actually, now I think about it, I do remember turning some notification message off, as VanHalen kept coming and offline every 5 minutes while I was watching a movie. Aye, think I might have turned them all off.

If I'm watching a movie or something, I usually just sign out as those reminders can get annoying fast.

That's bizarre, even signed-in I never get the notifications when I'm watching a movie. Only when I'm playing a game.

Yeah, I don't get notifications when I'm watching movies. I never fucked with my settings either.

If you're watching a DVD or Bluray it signs you out automatically so you will not get notifications, but if you are watching a movie file either on the PS3 or streaming to the PS3 from your PC the notifications will show up.

Yeah, I should have clarified that. I have a lot of TV shows downloaded and just watch them off of the PS3, so I still get the notifications.
