So today on AOTS they showed some footage from the playstation press conference in San Francisco, and they showed off their playstation motion controller.

Must say it was a bit underwhelming. The only game that really looked kinda cool was the street fighting game, most of the other footage, looked just as wonky as the wii motion controller and the one game they did show that was truly next gen was Socom 4, but the guy was basically sitting in his chair using the motion controller like a regular controller, so what exactly would be the point?

To try and cash in on the Wii's success? I guess we can be expecting a glut of shitty $20 mini-game collections that only the truly retarded buy to flood the PS3's library by the fall as well.

But that's the thing. The truly retarded are usually casual gamers who don't know better. A casual gamer isn't going to spend a shitload of money on a PS3 so who exactly is this controller supposed to be for?

You need to already own a $300 PS3, and then you have to buy an extra $100 or so peripheral to be able to play "casual" games? I'd be surprised if this does well.

If they can make FPS games play like they do in the Wii then I will gladly spring for one of these controllers. Even though I am getting used to FPS with a standard controller, I still prefer the Wii scheme.

I love the little jabs at the Wii and Natal. Kevin Butler FTW.

My PS3 was shipped back to me tonight, according to an e-mail I just saw. I may just get it back before I leave for Phoenix on Thursday. I'm still pissed, though, about losing all my progress and saved data for Little Big Planet and Final Fantasy VII.

What happened to your PS3?

I think my unit has bricked on me. Well the unit itself works. It turns on, connects to PSN, I can do anything that doesn't require a disk. The problem is my PS3 won't read any disc. No games, no blu-rays, no Netflix. I have a feeling it is the laser that reads the discs that is the problem. I have looked up online a guy from Sacramento that offers fixes for this particular problem. Here is his website.... http://thomasvideogames.com/ps3.html Does it seem on the up and up to you guys? My warranty is long gone, so although Sony would be the "safest" route, it will probably take forever and they will probably charge me out my ass to repair it. Not sure what to do. According to this guy's website, sometimes it is just dust buildup and all that it needs is to be cleaned. Argghh....

Yeah I just watched a turtorial on youtube on how to clean the blu ray lens. It doesn't look that complicated as long as you have all the right screwdriver sizes.

PS3 Blu-ray lens cleaning (ps3 fix)

Since my warranty is up now I don't really have a problem opening the damn thing and attempting to clean the lens. If that doesn't work I will give Sony a call.

So yeah I took a chance with that guy who runs that website, and I talked to him on the phone for a little bit, met him at the address which was a coffee shop, signed receipt, got copy of receipt and within 2 hours my PS3 has now been fixed, and I have a 45 day warranty. It was the Optical laser lens, and it had to be replaced. So my risk paid off.

I found Prototype used at Futureshop for $20 over the weekend. I always meant to pick it up, but inFamous came out at the same time last year so that one won out when I had to choose. In all honesty, the game disc and packaging doesn't look like it's ever been touched, let alone used. Definitely a good deal.

Not that far into it, yet. I just tried it out for a few minutes and thought it was pretty interesting. I've got some other games I want to spend time on first, but I figured I should pick it up since it was such a low price.

I had the laser die on the Blu Ray drive within the first 2 months I bought my PS3. It was still under warranty, and it only took a week from the point I called Sony to the point that I had my working PS3 back. Now that I am out of warranty, I hope it doesn't happen again.

If it ever happens to mine, I'm way past warranty as well.. did anyone mention if it was cheaper to get it fixed or to just buy a new PS3?

I can't find the price now, but I remember reading somewhere that Sony will charge you about $200 to repair an out of warranty system.

Yeah if it ever happens I guess it would make sense to get a new one, then, given the larger HDD size. I don't play my PS2 games on my PS3 so I'm not worried about BWC - thankfully.

How many PS3ers on here have Resident Evil 5? I'm gonna be borrowing it from a guy soon and I'm wondering if anyone wants to hit up some co-op!

Sony can suck my cock

new system update when I tried to sign into PSN today....it eliminates your ability to partition the harddrive and install another operating system...and if you don't download it you can't get onto the PSN

I don't even use Linux or anything on my system and I'm pissed about this, the hardcores are going to riot

Sony's new business model of "Release the product, and then slowly REMOVE features" is sure to be a popular one! I was going to joke that it's slowly reverting into a PS2, but they removed that ability already.

And so it begins.

Other OS was removed because it was behind the recent PS3 exploit, which could lead to homebrew etc.

"Having told PlayStation 3 owners not to update their consoles to the latest 3.21 firmware, iPhone hacker GeoHot has returned to announce that he has now implemented custom firmware on Sony?s
Writing on his blog, he states ?Here is a video demoing my ?custom firmware?. I would have added something showing off the new features of 3.21, but oh wait, there aren?t any. This can be installed without having to open up your PS3, just by restoring a custom generated PUP file. It?s possible this CFW will also work on the slim to actually *enable* OtherOS; I?ll know when my infectus gets here.?
As to whether he?ll eventually release this to the public is unknown at this time, but the future of the console in regards to piracy certainly looks under threat if it does.
He finally thanks Sony, writing ?Note to the people who removed OtherOS, you are potentially turning 100000+ legit users into ?hackers.? There was a huge(20x) traffic spike to this blog after the announcement of 3.21. If I had ads on this site I guess I?d be thanking you.?

I'm actually glad they removed that feature as I will never even bother with it, and it helps prevent pirating. Good call Sony.

If i thought the PS3 was worth hacking i wouldnt have updated. But simply put, the PS3 doesnt have enough titles worth owning when my xbox is capable of doing it.

This doesn't have any impact on me since I own a Slim, but I think people are making too big a deal out of it. Seems like Sony was just trying to keep the system from being hacked.

Running Linux on the PS3 intrigued me a bit, but it seems like the kind of thing I'd only use a few times and then forget about.

Couldn't care less that they removed the feature. I was never going to install another OS anyway

And still holds true.

For lame nostalgia purposes maybe. If you are talking simply preference, then ok no one can argue with someone's personal preference, but to say the PS3 doesn't have enough quality games to stand alone as a console in 2010 is pretty ignorant.
