Heh, it reads fine on TVs that were made this decade. ;) There is actually a dark teal background behind the text on that for me..

Yeah, I noticed that today as well. It's pretty awful. Honestly, the photograph isn't much worse than the real thing.

Okami is digital only.

My TV doesn't technically do 720p; it's 540p/1080i. It'll fake 720p, and display a picture rendered at a higher resolution than 480p, but it doesn't look particularly good. The PS3 doesn't scale to 1080i, whereas the 360 does. My TV also doesn't seem to like HDMI, which is how the PS3 is hooked up—I can particularly notice it in something like GTA IV, where shifting the camera around will make the sky flicker; it does the same on the 360 via HDMI. I don't use the PS3 a whole lot because of all of this. Even the Blu-ray player doesn't do much for me, because the only surround speakers I have are for the computer.

I know this one chick who won't upgrade to an HD (plasma, LED, LCD) TV because it's "too real" for her. I don't understand how she can still use a tube TV.

Shes crazy, if i had to go back to a 4:3 tube tv i would cry.

I remember when I bought my first LCD, I was kind of nervous that I wouldn't like it.. but within 30 seconds of setting up and using it I knew I could never go back.

My girlfriend says the same thing. I have a 40" 1080p LCD with a 120hz refresh, and she complains all the time that HD programming and Blu Rays "look like you're watching a stage play rather than a TV".

THAT I could understand. I hate CineMotion or whatever it is. I find that that feature and 120hz TV's make things look like BBC made-for-tv movies. 60hz is fine for me. ;)

I guess I'm the minority. If I'm watching tv or a movie, I want it as smooth as possible.

Looks like the new PlayStation store is live. It did seem to be a little slower when I tested it last night. Hopefully it's just as they are rolling it out.

I just picked up one of the new Super Slim models this weekend. My first experience with the PS3. I got it mainly because I'm a huge fan of the Metal Gear series going way back and wanted to finally play 4, plus I'd heard good things about Uncharted. I also didn't have a Blu Ray player and had cashed in a bunch of hotel reward points for Best Buy gift cards. Seemed like a pretty decent investment to me. Right now I have:

Uncharted 3 Game of the Year edition (came with the system)
Dust 514 download (came with the system)
Metal Gear Solid 4
MLB The Show 2012

What should I be looking for beyond that as far as PS3 exclusives?

Awesome. I'm doing my second playthrough of MGS4 right now actually. Doing the whole Solid series in order (3, Peacewalker, 1 and on)

Uncharted 2 is one of the best games on the system, imo. The whole series is good, but that's the major stand out.

Infamous 1 and 2 are pretty good and will keep you busy with all of the side stuff. There's God of War III and Ico/Shadow of the Colossus collection. If you dig fps games, you've got the Killzone and Resistance games. I heard Resistance 3 really good.

Demon's Souls is pretty great if you have the patience for getting killed a million times before advancing to the next point.

The Ratchet and Clank HD collection as well as the God of War Collection (1-3 plus the PSP titles) are good ones to check out.

Yeah, that's true. The God Of War Saga Collection has 5 games and isn't full price. Definitely worth picking up.

I've only played Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time, but it was pretty awesome and I'll probably pick up the R&C collection eventually.

There's a Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, if you want to go back through the series. It's a little silly, in that it doesn't include the original MGS; you can download that from the PlayStation Store for $10, or if you still have the original PS1 discs, they'll play in your PS3. It does include the PSP title Peace Walker, but not other PSP entries like Portable Ops or Metal Gear Acid. (I seem to recall the PS2 collection being similarly dopey by not including the MGS3: Subsistence bonus disc with the original MSX games.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid_HD_Collection

In the past few months, there's been a handful of collection packages released:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/08/28/playstation-collections-available-at-retail-today-god-of-war-infamous-ratchet-clank/
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/09/06/killzone-trilogy-joins-playstation-collection-on-october-23rd/
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/10/04/resistance-collection-hits-ps3-this-winter/

Again, a little bit of silliness in there—such as the God of War Origins games (originally on PSP) being download codes rather than the disc they had already previously released.

If you use your 1 month of PlayStation Plus (I think you should have gotten a card or something with that console), there's a handful of "free" titles. I'm pretty sure LittleBigPlanet 2 and inFamous 2 are still in there. (And I will verify as soon as one of PS3's lovely updates finishes... Yup.) Note that you'll only be able to continue playing these games if you renew your PS+ membership; it's about $50/year.

Heavy Rain isn't something everyone will love, but it's worth giving it a shot; there's a demo available. It's currently $15.99 on NewEgg.com.

Now that I think of it, there's a handful of PS3 games on sale there. Most of these seem to be $15.99, down from $19.99, but that's still a pretty good price:
Devil May Cry HD Collection
Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition
Jak & Daxter HD Collection
Sly Cooper Collection
Little Big Planet 2 Special Edition (There's a few different LBP2 retail packages, including one with PS Move stuff.)
ICO and Shadow of Colossus Collection

You can check some more in there if you want:

On the left side, click the "More" link under SubCategory and choose PS3 Games, then click Discount Item, then choose a price range, or sort by lowest price, or whatever you like.

I'd also recommend getting a playstation plus account. It's been decent enough since they started adding free full PS3 games to the service. Plus the discounts they have can be pretty decent.

Yes, PS+ is amazing. For $50 a year, it's insane how much free shit you get. This week:

I got it because they were going to have the Simpsons Game for free and I didn't want to shell out the $10 for it. I haven't played half the games I've downloaded but it's worth. If Microsoft had done the same, I would've kept Live Gold.

Free online gaming is a very nice model to have for your console. But then charging £40 a year for nothing but access to free games or reduced pricing isn't something I'm interested in. The PSN is far too overpriced (£49.99 for FIFA indeed).

well, really it's a subscription service like netflix. They are providing content. If they were just offering discounts or early access I wouldn't even look twice at it, but the constant rotation of games is good.
I agree that I haven't played a lot of what they've provided, but there are definitely titles that I had minor interest in that I wouldn't have bought otherwise and have enjoyed actually playing.

Holy shit. I just got $20 loaded onto my PSN account for being "one of our most active customers in October." I had no idea about this promotion..
